That's good news, although by the time your project is finished it'll be to late for this particular game I'm making... Thanks for the link. Y'know, I could have sworn Anikiti knew where all the speed stuff was because he made the angry Wigglers go really fast and stuff like that.

I'd advise picking more complimantary colours.. As it stands it's quite discordant... Or maybe you just magically picked all the colours that I don't like

What this would probably need is built in editing and a preview that shows how the tiles fit together in the game. Unless of course we're on the level of awesomeness that lets us edit the actual tilemap...

This reminds me, I'd really love to see a way to make custom layer 3's,, with custom graphis and tilemaps per level... I know it's limited in colours but who cares, it would be amazing... Maybe one day

THWUMPS! PLAY AS THWUMPS. Basically you just have to press a button whenever is walking underneath you, to try and THWUMP them. And if you get made small you become a Thwimp.

I still have this sitting on my HD, and it's a MUCH better version than the one posted online (longer levels, more and better graphics), but I am in a total quandry with the slowdown problem. I just don't know what to do, as restoring all the custom blocks would be an insane amount of work, and I've already spend a crazy amount of time on that hack.

It just sort of pains me to think about it, you know? I want to show it to you guys, but the block problem, the slowdown, the uncertainty as to weather the new blocktool will even SUPPORT my insane amount of custom blocks...

Thanks for the thought though. The project isn't written off just yet.

Those things happen at the end of the hack :squint:. If I tidied the demo up it would have taken too long and it would have never been released. And why waste effort tidying up a demo when you can put that effort into more work on the finished thingy.

And all the buggy parts are test areas that say DO NOT ENTER.

Just kidding . Incidentally, the glitchy staircase in the sky in the ice level was to help me skip over part of it when I was playtesting

Atmosphere. If a level doesn't have atmosphere it's dead. Atmosphere can come from graphics or good layouts, or even something else.

Does anyone own/play Gish by Chronic Logic? It's a PC game which is a physics-based 2D Puzzle/Platformer. It's really good and has it's own level editor, and you can import your own tiles and build gadgets for the player to interact with via the physics. Also the levels are destructable and interactive, you can make platforms that swing, topple over, walls that collapse and/or break if enough force is applied, it's crazy.

Anyway I'm making my own levels and the Gish forum is pretty dead so I thought I'd check here. If you've not heard of it I recommend it. Just search for Gish on google.

Cool of you to say so, and the feeling's pretty mutual. Sometimes I'm suprised at the way you'll zoom straight into the negative on people's work, but then I think that has the effect of raising the bar. And like me I can tell you do actually care and know about design/etc.. A lot of people round here just want to MAKE TEH 1337 HAXX!!!!!!!

Fair enough, I'll outcast myself. I didn't realise releasing my hack (or demos thereof) was such a destructive act, but I will stop out of respect for 'real' hackers, and keep my SMW work among friends who I know won't distribute it. I'm after all only a graphic/level designer, and have never tried to be anything more. I'm certainly not putting 10000's of hours into a work which is going to get me called a wanker or negative consideration. Parasite isn't stupid and seems to be well respected so he's likely not to be the only one to accuse me of things.
