Hey!

I was looking at all the utilities we have for hacking SMW, and wondered just how much we actually have left to decode to make SMW completely editable. So here goes.

What we have decoded:

-Status Bar editing
-Level editing
-text editing
-GFX editing
-Iggy/larry battles arena editing
-(soon)music editing
-ASM editing(custom blocks, disabling timer...)
-mode 7 GFX editing (reznor/ iggy battles)
-enemy name editing

things we have left to decode
-Sprite ASM
-Layer 3 use(tides/tileset specific)
-Bowser battle editing
-ending editing
-cutscene editing
-select text tidbits (ending-related)
-Eating/Creating block path editing
-Layer 2 behaviours editing

If I have missed anything (I must have), please PM me and I'll add it to the list.

probably not even 50%, even when the things on the list are accomplished, there will always be something else someone wants to hack.

I disagree. With levels, overworld, graphics, text, and later music we have covered all the important bases. I'd say that SMW is now the most easily hackable game there ever was, but then there are games like DOOM where the source code was released and then they are therefore completely hackable... meh.

Shut up no one likes you

Heh, all kidding aside, I remember when all you could do was edit GFX, people thought it was awesome. People were happy, then they wanted more. I agree, it is the most hackable, but there is a whole lot left we could do, but most of it we might just leave alone.

well, I would like to at least be able to edit the bowser battle text and the boss sequences, and smallhacker seems to be preparing his status bar editor for release.

BTW, about the bar editor, will it be able to move the counters around?

OMG kario is mean to me

And I bet that Smallhacker will tell you all the details about his program once it's released. It's supposed to be a secret, you know.

A kickass secret.

It's not hacking when you have the source though.

Only if you are trying to hck the program. Otherwise it could still be hacking beause you are hacking the visuals/sound.
