Here are some screenshots of a Mario hack, I've been working on. I'd release it as a demo now, but quite frankly it needs some more work (like adding custom backgrounds to the levels and needing an overworld). If the color seems a little washed out it's probably the bloody jpg format.
A pipemaze level. The same pipemaze level. That giant piranha plant is probably blocking the very pipe you need to go into. Question is how do you get rid of it? I've tried to give the graphics a flatter look by simplifying the colors. Hopefully this works. If not, well... Lots of pipes, oil, and fire. Probably not the safest place to be. An ice level. Eventually these levels will all have names at the top via BFM's level name patch. This level is called "the Furnace". Mario will have to turn on both the gas and the power to be able to progress passed the ice level above. A laser maze. The red lasers are safe to walk through, the greenish-white ones are lethal. The first level of the game. Mario hears of Koopa's new teleporter and goes to destroy it. Much chaos in sues and Mario must escape the lab alive. The hack will include many custom blocks and graphics, a few custom sprites, and some hard puzzles. Once I finish adding backgrounds and an overworld I'll release a demo. Creative criticism? Unhelpful comments? Doesn't matter, let loose! |

Originally posted by HyperMackerel Right-O, will use the PNG format from now on. As for the response: Since the fire-worm thing is replacing the Wiggler sprite, I thought it would be appropriate to switch out the wiggler flower with a small fireflower. There aren't many mazes in a row, these are just the graphics I decided to show. Huh, that rhymed. @ Skyon: Well, maybe it is coca-cola. Bowser probably needs all of it to feed the lust of those koopa-kids. You think Ludwig would be satisfied with only ONE soda a day? |

And "cheque" among others. Funny, I hate British spellings but love the grammer and punctuation.
I actually like the coca-cola idea, but some how I don't think it will work well with the storyline. Oh, well. |

If he does the Mario 32, I'd be intrested in seeing how he sections off areas in the main castle. Or will he have an overworld instead? Hmmm...

It's classical music that gets me. Mr. Beethoven in particular. That stuff is so well constructed beyond anything I could ever put together myself. It's like looking at a building that is so prefect that one misplaced brick would bring the whole thing down.
For me it's not that it alters my mood but some things like really good jazz or some killer rock and roll are like good wine. Full of flavor and zest and sublime after-tastes and undertones. I could live without it, but why would I want to? |

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the old 8-bit graphics. I will certainly give it a whirl.

Social engineering does work, but not as it is practiced in schools or churches. To condition a person you have to isolate them and put them through some form of abuse (in a cult setting this is probably verbal) to make them feel powerless. Once that is done you can give them a sense of empowerment by belonging to the cult or society or whatever.
However, young children can and do buy into nonsense tossed at them and as the saying goes, "Get them when they're young and they're yours forever." Pah. That's about all I disagree with in the above statement. |

Women in line: "Are you mormon?"
Me standing in front of her: "No, why?" Woman: "Because you're so clean and white." WTF?!? Was she talking about my skin or my clothes? |

I would like to apologize for the musician Von Cello. I'm not sure how well he is known outside (or even inside) the U.S. but somebody has to apologize because he won't do it.

You can use a series of blocktool's changing blocks (block 65, a block that will change into the next block in the map16 when hit by mario) to create the surface of the water,
The first block in the sequence should be solid, as is the next (but this one should look like it is cracked or cracking), the last block should act like water. You can add more changing blocks in the sequence to make it take longer for the ice to crack. That will take care of the first part of your question. As for staying in the water too long and dying, I haven't a clue. |

Flat graphics. I don't really have any use for graphics already in the game, so I try to make my own. I like NES style graphics more because I'm extremely lazy.

You could submit a custom block request to the sticky'd thread. (And I suggest you write as clearly and completely as possible, never assume that people know what you're talking about, e.g.: explain exactly how the custom blocks differ from the quicksand?)
That will probably take a long time. I suggest just using a compromise: Custom block number 29 (Movement Down Very Slow block). When set to act like water in the map16 these blocks are close enough to the SMB3 quicksand that there really is no problem, assuming that you use some good ExGFX and animated tiles. |

They smile a lot or something? It seems tacked on at the end to give a sense of false sincerity. Besides, in the States the teacher would be fired, no questions asked, and the kids would report it, of that I'm sure. There's nothing about this that rings true. He's a terrible liar and a terrible speller to boot. |

That's a convention carried over from the original game. Of course it doesn't have to be the case in all hacks, but for sake of ease having color coded levels indicating the number of exits is nice.

Well something needs to be done. I come back after a year hiatus and find this waiting for me.
Every time the old board crashed it got a little harder to come back and now that I am back I find that all I want to do is leave. I've got an old sense of obligation but not much else keeping me here. There's no point in trying to explain things to people who can barely type English. And it's hard to be helpful in a forum ripe with such users. With SMW Central up and running I believe that in a very short time I won't even need to come here. Eventually all the documentation, programs, and hacks I want will all be there. The forum is almost obsolete. Too bad, but those are the times. |

Originally posted by S.N.N. Agreed, in parts, just about anything that turns Mario from a machine of koopa death into a scared plumber is bad. Lakitu I could argue about but the balloon I'm with you one hundred percent. I can't stand that power-up. If I see it come out of a block I avoid it like the plague. Underwater mazes can be bad too, actually mazes in general suck. |
