Ok! "We have just been infomned by Sony that they will not be warranting any dead pixel units. They are only warranting hardware defects ie broken buttons, malfuction with drive and so on. Dead Pixels are not considered a defect by Sony of America and will not be warrantied. With this new developement, Video games Plus will no longer be testing PSP units for dead pixels before shipping." Source: Website Video games Plus Just for everyone's information. Nintendo will replace your DS when you have even 1 dead pixel. The PSP is much more expensive, and look what you got for it... |

Not to troll, but I also heard that there is apparently more common with dead pixels on PSP units too. Nintendo was the first company who offered a "single dead pixel = replacment" gurantee. Some companies replace only if there is like "more than four". (I have no dead pixels on my DS, and I throughly checked too. ) |

Even though that would be hilarious... I don't believe that. Didn't Sony fix dead pixels in Japan?

Dead pixels are not considered a defect? Spuh? Certainly never been impressed with Sony's customer care, I must say. |

I've heard calls about dead pixels, but haven't seen any, save for the one that the Sony rep had. We've even gotten an e-mail saying if we don't get any walk-ins about it, they should contact Sony. Honestly, if its that bad, and if we have enough to spare, I'll trade the PsP out with another. |

Trapster, I bet that could as well be you have the GBA SP in a wierd angle for a moment. Or it's just a software problem too. The Swedish consumer agency is quite strict about things like this, guess how embrassing it would be if it appeared on "Plus" (a consumer program, made by our goverment funded SVT and they complain about thoose problems. |

GameSpot set the record straight. The Sony rep suggested PSP owners who encounter the pixel issue to try the device "for a week or two" to see if it continues to bother them. "If you find the spots are interfering with gameplay/video viewing during this period, we will support the various elements of [the PSP] warranty," the rep said. Each PSP comes with a one-year limited warranty, which is on page 125 of the PSP manual. If a PSP is "determined to be defective" by SCEA, the company will see to the "repair or replacement of this product [the PSP] with a new or refurbished product at SCEA's option." According to a technical support associate contacted by GameSpot, PSP owners who encounter a persistent and aggravating dead-pixel issue should contact SCEA's customer service line (1-800-345-7669) for instructions on how to exchange their unit after a week or two of using the unit. "We will work with you," he assured. The associate said the process would work much like exchanging PlayStation 2s that suffer from the dread "Disc Read Error" problem: Gamers will mail their PSPs in to SCEA and receive units with new screens. The associate was unsure if the customer would receive an all-new unit or their old unit with a new LCD screen. In short - bogus. |

I thought there was something a *little* iffy with this obscure website making a claim about Sony's policy quite like that.

Well so did I. To be honest, MOST gamers won't be that bothered with one pixel being a little brighter/darker than the rest. Now if you have a few like that, I can see someone considering an exchange. Sony wouldn't screw gamers over like that right off the bat. |

I DOUBT that you would be able to see a single dead pixel for the most part. And even then I have further doubts that it would at all effect the gameplay. In fact, my GBA SP has a small patch in the middle where the colour is a little off, but it does not bother me one bit. This is just another bunch of people deciding to do system war baiting in order to start little fights. Besides, this could easily have been put into the PSP thread rather than being given a standalone. |

No, it wasn't. But guess what. They had to cover their asses for the first generation of PSP. And guess what they eventually managed to begin the repairs of the units as well as fix further production problems. |

There was obviously no way in hell they were going to use a 'no dead pixel replacement' policy against Nintendo's 'single dead pixel replacement' one. I probably wouldn't care much though. My DS has 2 and I only ever notice them when the screen is all black anyway, so meh. It tells me if it's actually turned off or not. But then, I had no plans to buy a PSP anyway.
