It's easy to require you to jump on Rex more times, simply increase his hit points. Atma X can tell you how if you need to know. It's not even ASM, it's basic hex. One byte.

EDIT: I looked through a file by Atma on various Rex stats. I wanted to make it into a goomba, but the side-project didn't go how I wanted it to so I abandoned it. anyway, edit $197B8 - what you change it to will be the HP of Rex, but, it won't necessarily get taller. you'll need some more data for that, and possibly ASM.


And the title screen on BMF's hack... We never got any proof that was more than a small MS Paint drawing placed in. Or that it was even the intro everyone assumed it to be. You need to take things with a grain of salt. Not everything everyone says is true... I mean, he's BMF, he's great, but, that kind of graphics expansion isn't likely.

Yes... I... Fucking... Can. Sorry if you don't like it, but, what the hell is my incentive to keep playing if the first levels are terrible? With all the good hacks out there, a hack had better have a good start if it hopes to compete. If it sucks, I'll just stop playing and go play a different hack.

That's funny, because almost everyone I know hates long underwater levels. That's why I only have a handful in the entire game.

Once again. If the first level sucks no one will want to play on unless they happen to know for certain it gets better. And I can fairly confidently say from the screenshots you gave people aren't going to think that. Why are the boulders just sitting in the air? And that checkerboard background is just plain obnoxious.

EDIT: So I decided to play through more. The game passes the time, I guess, but unfortunately I see no signs of it getting better. The secret exit for Hoohoo mountain 2 is terrible. You just don't make the player just down random edges until they find the secret, you hear? You give some kind of hint. I really don't like this level, mmk?

Green Switch Palace: Nice job on making it impossible to pass with Yoshi without glitching through.

Hoohoo mountain three... What the hell was that Yoshi doing at the start? I already had Yoshi, and frankly I did not like having my Yoshi glitch up. In the second area, you have to have a cape to pass with Yoshi. That's somewhat alright, because you still CAN. But, what were the boulders doing sitting in the air like that? Seriously, that's just stupid. And the level design was unforgiving, even though it was easy, and I just didn't like it.

The castle: Augh! The background, it scratches my eyes!

First level of the new area: Let my start by asking what, exactly, you were thinking with that one-space gap leading in to a pit. You cannot pass that with Yoshi at alll and if you mess up on sliding through when you're big you'll fall off the edge. I stopped playing here. And the overworld... What was the world three castle doing there? There's nothing from stopping you from just walking through... That's just plain bad overworld design, to force the player to take the long route. You have to give a REASON, it's just dumb

EDIT2: Your overworld paths are far too long and pointless. It makes going between levels something of a chore. And, there was a level with green spikes. You could skip a good section by flying before those green spikes up through the floor of the upper area. And also, those green spikes... They shouldn't kill you. That's just mean. You never say anything about it, I had yoshi and was planning on using them to extend my running distance before flying. But no, instead, I died. Now THERE'S good design

While watching this movie, I had the strangest thought. "I don't know what I'm talking about so I make vague references to the pope being the anti-christ as I walk away slowly." No clue where it came from.

Somewhat more on-topic, the slope that they ride up on in the very beginnign of January has a Nintendo Gamecube sticker on it.

So now graphics, the occasional ASM, and a handful of good ideas overrule awful level design? That's a new one. *goes off to play* I'ma decide for myself.

EDIT: Broken patch. The graphics (At least for the intro) are broken. Same thing happened when I applied it to an edited ROM.

I just beat Castle of Thwomp. I must say, this is very, very difficult. Luckily, it's not even close to savestatingly difficult.

Your ExGFX. I don't like them at all. But, your very creative level design more than makes up for anything any graphical problem ever presented. Good job.

As someone who has beaten Viewtiful Joe in Ultra V-Rated, and also Super Mario World + 3, I must say, the difficulty is by no means too much. It's just not accessable to all. It's just a hack, you pay nothing for it, you shouldn't complain about *that*. I quite like a tough hack now and then, so long as it's not just overwhelming.

1. No. Though you really don't need Photoshop.
2. Set them to view 4bpp tiles and it'll look right.
3. Make copies of files and place them in your ExGraphics folder, rename the, to ExGFX## with ## replace with any hexadecimal number 80-FFF in hex, then load the ExGFX and edit that in LM. Or use a tile editor.

Nice job on making it seem like you added sprites.

Goombas: ExGFX'd small koopas. I almost didn't catch this, nice job. The fact you used a small blue koopa in the same level made it even less obvious. But when I saw a goomba jump over a kicked shell, I knew, as only yellow small koopas do that.

Shy Guy Ghost: Wavy eerie. You keep the straight eerie alone so it's rather obscure, though. Nice job on making it vulnerable, though.

EDIT: No I just saw a wavy eerie... But how did you expand the sprite data? Nice job.

That's all I've noticed so far, I've gone through only the alternate paths and I'm not too far in to the forest route.

Agreed.

Oh, and, if you can find the hex value/values that control whether Lakitu is killed by getting something thrown (IE, a shell, or something) and can give the values required to make it not killed by that, but still can be killed by having a bob-omb explode on it, I would be greatly appreciative. And would credit you in my hack. I already have collected the other data I need for a particular lakitu edit... Those who know what I mean know what I mean, BTW.

For the overworld problem simply select the event they appear on to be the event from the level before them, they'll appear.
