Here's a question. Would it be possible to fix up the control in Super Mario World NES at all? One of the games biggest flaws is that a running jump goes the same length, height and speed as a walking jump. It kind of kills the flow of the gameplay. The run speed needs to be brought down a notch too cause you usually wind up running into enemies if you try to run. Also the cape has no float functions which it should.

I've just now started working on this. From playing Super Mario World for NES I felt there was alot of problems with the graphics. One of the biggest I felt was the miscoloring of mario. Well, this is pretty much a demo cause I'm not far into doing this. So far I have fixed the Color on Marios small and large form. I haven't made any more changes because I am unsure if anyone else is doing this. I konw there are other hackers working on this game and I want to know if they are doing anything graphicwise first before I continue.

The first pic is what Small Mario normally looks like, the 2nd pic is what he looks like with the patch I made.

These too are before and after pics. This time of Marios large form. If noone else is working on the graphics I will fix the graphics and colors for Marios other forms, and Luigi also. I will also fix the background and other sprites in the game.

You can get the patch of what I've done so far here.

That isn't a glitch. Nintendo programmed it that way intentionally. Cause back in SMB1 it didn't work that way and that led to the 1-up glitch on those stairs in world 3.

To change text you need to make a table. I use Tag, which can be found on Zophars domain. If you want to use a premade table go to http://www.snakeyes.cc/tbl/

To use a table you open the rom with a hex editor. I would suggest either Hexecute or Translhextion. Find the open table feature. When your table is loaded you just have to use the find feature. Ctrl+F usually opens it, or look for it on the menu. Then you type in the text that you want to change. Make sure you have text selected rather than hex.

My questions weren't neccesarily a do it for me question. But I was curious if anyone had wanted to fix those problems. I am currently hacking the graphics part of Super Mario World NES and was hoping to see this games many issues resolved. But I am perfectly willing to try and tackle the issue myself. I don't have the knowledge to do it yet, but I'm sure theres enough faqs out there for me to learn.

Anyway, I'll try to keep on topic from now on.

I hope you are using yy-chr. With that you can go change how the sprites are arranged. for smb2 and 3 I would suggest changing it from normal to FC/NESx16. It makes things alot easier to view.

Allowing you to be hit by the shell is a good idea too. Cause this game needs some challenge anyway. Your making the my personal favorite kinda hacks. Added features but no new levels. If there were ever any future updates to the smb2 editor I think that this could be a good addition. As in have a selection of premade patches built into the editor. The castlevania editor Stake has that feature. I don't know who wouldn't want to use a bouncing shell in their super mario 2 anyway.

I look forward to the new release. I hope you guys put in programmable keys. As in we can edit what button we can use to access certain features. Right now I use Joy 2 key so that I can save and load with my controller.

If your feeling lazy just draw some thorns or a jagged edge on the side of keys. Kidding. I hope u find what you are searching for.

I think this is one of the more active rom hacking sites. I've seen more dead rom hacking forums anyway.

Ya, why not go for the rename character routinue. And you ought to give people headsup what happens if you do use a savestate cause they might be a little peeved if they are hours into the game and then use their first savestate.

Looks good. You ought to change the airship to the SMB3 airship. You can probably add a storybit where Mario Hijacks it from Dennis Hopper.

Dang, wouldnt you have to expand the rom or something to make you a brand new character? Cause I don't know if there is any space left in the game for a Doki Doki Panic sprite. Interesting sounding hack anyhow.

I played a super gameboy game recently that had some one of the colors altered. I'm curious if it is possible to change more than one color. or how I go about doing this. If anyone has a link to a faq or info it would be greatly appreciated.
