October 11th is coming up, and that's Columbus day. You may not be aware of this because

a) You don't live in America
b) You have to go to school/work anyway
c) You generally never know what day of the week it is

My English teacher questioned us about how we feel about that day, if it should be celebrated or not. In fact, we have to come up with a persuasive essay to either be for or against it. The challenge is actually caring about it, but it got me thinking, there are native americans against it (look up the story of Columbus if you don't know anything beyond paper hats from kindergarten, you'll see what I mean). But there are arguments for keeping the holiday that, although he was a morally corrupt man and wasn't even the first in America, it was his landing there that changed the world forever.

What do you guys think?

It doesn't matter if you want a day off, I'm asking about the actual meaning of the holiday, how we consider Columbus to be a hero. And as Leg pointed out, many are not affected by it. I would imagine it's a bigger deal on the east coast.

Sion, I heard that too a few times. I think that's a bit extreme. The reasoning I heard was because there are so many exceptions to the rules.

Nobody is living close enough to the volcano, it shouldn't be a problem, with the exception of people who have tried to get closer to it.

I'm willing to bet this eruption will be a let down.

Well as the 1980 eruption showed, people get attached to their homes. They knew it was dangerous, but they lived there, had businesses there.. same reason why nobody would live that town that was built on top of a waste dump (I forget the name. Love Canal?)

How does Real Player work? I'm sitting here, and I downloaded a kb sized movie file that's like supposed to be two minutes long, and it freezes every twelve seconds for "rebuffering". Is it still downloading? Why can't I download the file in one sweep? I mean, I have other movie files for Real Player that was 2mb size and don't rebuff or anything. What can I do?
I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this, but I know nothing about Real Player except that it pisses me off.

Hiryuu, I kind of figured that's what it was doing. I went to like "download link" but it still only downloads the 1kb part, instead of the whole file.
This is what I'm referring to, if it matters.

edit: alright, people, I KNOW real player sucks. I didn't say I created the movie, I just want to watch it. Telling me to use another player doesn't help with shit.

I need help on some Chemistry problems I have to do. I wont throw out every problem to you guys, just a few. I'm real confused. I showed my mom and she said moles was the reason why she didn't do well in the class herself.

Stuff to know (we round the numbers in my class)

6x10^23 particles/mole
Ne: 20.2g molar mass
Osub2: 32.0g molar mass

I don't know if molar mass adds anything to these problems.

How many moles in 5.2 x 10^23 atoms of Ne?
How many atoms in 3 moles of Osub2 molecules?

Now I don't just want the answer, I can get that, I need to know how to find it. I don't understand the relationship between grams, moles, particles, molecules, or atoms. Like, I know there's some formula that will let me do all of these problems but I just don't know what it is. I figure if I know how to do those two problems, I can do the rest.
I really appreciate any efforts, I'm barely getting an A in the class and if I get these wrong it'll shoot me down for sure.

Okay, so for the first problem 5.2*10^23/6*10^23 = .87 mole. Yeah?

The second one I'm a bit more confused on. So a mole of O2 molecule has 12x10^23 atoms in it, twice as much?
So that would be (12x10^23)3 = 36x10^23 atoms
