Posted on 09-27-04 07:30 PM, in ATI video card problem Link
When I got the information correctly, the ATI Radeon 7200 is a 64 MB video card, but why does the driver information say it has only 32 MBs of RAM (I ran a Google search about that video card) ?
EDIT: There are mentioned both 32 and 64 MB.
I assume you have 32 MBs of RAM ?

You didn't say how much of system RAM you have ?
That plays a major role for nearly all components and all software on the computer.

I think the card is overpowered for your machine, maybe the mainboard doesn't support it fully.

I'm (not too much longer fortunately ) running on a low PII machine with 128 MB SD-RAM and some 8 MB onboard-crap, but never would dare even to install a 32 MB card - despite the fact the machine would have problems to handle that video card, I doubt the mainboard might be able use its powers in a good way.
Updating your BIOS _might_ help, but I DON'T recommend it, because first of all it is hard to find a current version for older machines and second a failed flashing procedure corrupts the BIOS, so the computer will be unusuable.

It is some years ago when I had computer lessons ... but the last two years before the A-level we learned to program using Perl ...
It is nice, and some elements like that !#/usr/bin/perl (or somehow similar ) are even used today

We had internet access with Netscape 4.6 then, but no site was blocked or something; and when it was really boring, we used our machines like some kind of "messenger".

In Perl we made for everyone accessible files by using CHMOD 777, then we sent messages forth and back. Just refresh the file often and you can "chat"

Do you use an AMD Athlon64 processor ?
If yes, the following should help, since SP2 might mess up the installation of Windows XP then:

When starting up, hold F8 until you got the Windows selection screen, take "Safe mode with prompt(ing)" - I'm not sure how the correct translation is; I talk about the third option from the top.

Next, login with your adminstrator account. then go Start -> Run -> regedit and navigate through the registry via

HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services -> Intelppm -> Start-Entry in the right window, change the value to 4.

Close the editor and restart your machine normally.

Let's test it ...
When selecting "View image" - I see an uber-large screenshot of my file uploaded for test purposes

But as long it displays fine when hotlinked, it doesn't matter. I even copied the entire php string into here and it works

Crap, almost forgot it doesn't work in IE, as stated before
See Leland's post: http://filesys.fiftypounds.com/userfiles/Surlent/Acmlm_stuff/NergalMstr.gif is interpreted right by IE

But weird anyway, Neko's image with the extension ".ext" () works correctly too.

Posted on 09-30-04 12:47 AM, in ZSNES Video Card Requirements Link
I ran ZSNES DOS in 640 x 480 with interpolation only and maximum auto frameskip on an old PI several year ago ... with some crappy 4 MB onboard video card ... for games with less CPU usage it was okay; but I think VESA 2.0 was okay. But my monitor had problems until it gave up some day and I needed to get a new one

In Mario RPG it was almost about 5 frames per second ... and now don't ask how, but I made it to Smithy later on. That part with fast moving turn block platforms was like a hell to me, since everything just was visible for short moments only

An inconvenient way is to disable certain background layers or new GFX engine, as long you don't have another GFX card to hand. You could also try an older version of SNES9x if you can live with a smaller screen.
As for graphical compatibility, before I had less problems with some games like Tactics Ogre. As long you ensure you're putting your desktop to 16 colors it might be better - despite the lower compatibility of games (unlike the GFX).

Posted on 09-30-04 11:38 PM, in Cutting yourself Link
Don't know anyone who cut himself, but our family had some nasty events. I was standing on the balcony "only" some years ago and was ready to jump since I had enough of that life ...
Although things didn't improve too much (it is just fate, whenever I experience something good, it pays back in a bad way double), I won't think to hurt myself.
It doesn't help at all. But, on the other hand, many parents don't care too much for their children. Pressure of having good grades, problems like alcoholism, raping or misunderstanding cause problems someone can't describe.

So someone might see cutting him-/herself of having pain in the flesh, so you can "care" about the pain and maybe can try to forget the other problems for a short time.
It is like your mind is chased by something awful; you just reached a dead end and you are standing to a wall with your back - no one cares or is able to be talked to about that problem.

I wished, at least in Germany, people would care about more than just themselves. Sure, there is stress with the current unemployment and other things, but personal problems can't be brushed away simply without talking about it.

What type of sound card do you have on your computer ?
Post, if it is an onboard sound chip, like AC97 on some mainboards or if it is an PCI thingy (Creative Labs, Terratec or another facturer) and the model.

As for MP3s, if you have equalizer options (check the sound options in your Control Panel) which may have en- or disabled a bass boost setting or the pitches are set too high

Posted on 10-08-04 12:12 AM, in Sp2 worth it? Link
Some people were experiencing major problems with Service Pack 2, other ones had no issue at all.

I got my new computer with Windows XP Home days ago and installed SP2 offline from a CD, then added the newer downloads via WindowsUpdate (the only reason to keep IE on my computer ... ).

Except the fact, that the guard of my virus scanner (AntiVir - aso available in English on http://www.free-av.com/) sometimes doesn't work; though the virus scanner and the internet updater works correctly - I have no problems with SP2

But I don't trust the new security center ... I installed Sygate Personal Firewall and AntiVir and disabled it fully.
People using Emule, Kazaa might also be annoyed, since SP2 reduced the number of simulatnous connections/packets and you might download from fewer sources than usual.

But doesn't affect me; I try to keep my system up to date and have no major problems with SP2.

Before you install it: BACKUP YOUR SYTEM OR MOST IMPORTANT FILES.
So if it fails, simply backup it, only download SP1 plus all majof fixes .. it also should work

First of all, those dumb grammar mistakes in my post came due to my wireless keyboard ... the batteries were low and I forgot/mixed some letters

As for SP2, maybe creating a slipstreamed CD with the original Win XP installation disc might help. So it installs the operating system and with it Service Pack 2.
Maybe that explains why it runs very stable at least for these three days for me (fresh system plus SP2) ... I even can get stuff like Daemon Tools working without any problems

No need for that - for this is the "Location:" entry there - it is really not too much work to enter a few bytes of information there. Okay, it would be nice looking feature with that dropdown list (along with ClearType font effects in Win 2k or XP)
I don't entered it here - I know some Germans/Austrians here and talked already German with them

Time zones would be a good feature.
On the old board I already suggested customizable time and date settings, such as in phpBBs and other boards.
So I could enter (in phpBB syntax) G:i:s, D d M Y in the field.
It would show the date in 24-hours plus my custom date/tay settings for each thread

For here it would be a nice feature, but I dunno know how difficult this is to code for an AcmlmBoard or if this would even use another one than me here

My XP currently needs less than 50 seconds loading from switching the computer on, including typing a long password at the login screen. I want to keep it short like that for a longer time.

So make sure only to load the neccessary stuff in the auto-start folder or msconfig, removing unused programs regularly and updating your antivirus and firewall at least twice per week ... and performing a virus check once a week.

My Win XP SP2 is up to date - I installed SP2 right after installation of Windows itself, offline from a SP2 CD. That was on last Tuesday ... and then only one update was left on Windows Update. Installed it - hoping to feel somehow sure.

Windows is just like Swiss Cheese ... full of holes. Now even harmless image files can cause damage

Well, I have my SuSe Linux 9.0 CD here and on E:\, there are 25 GB free ... but I'm too lazy too install and afraid, I can't get my old internal ISDN working in Linux

Yoshi also likes to duplicate berries. Everybody knows that, when walking and trying to eat a berry, you hear that typical "got a coin!" sound. Time it that way Yoshi throws out his tongue just before touching the berry directly using his mouth. Bingo - two coin sounds - two berries

As for Yoshi, he's a really poor thing. First, he has to be the horse for Mario, second he has to guard him when he is a baby and to suppress any annoyances when he got hit: The baby is crying loudly
