Chocolate Island couldnt form naturally either, yoshi's island is a bit of a stretch too. In fact a lot of SMW is unnatural

A flame would be insulting you.

Anyways... you can't hack with ASM if you don't understand ASM now do you? If you don't understand Lunar Magic you can't effectively use it right? You don't have to know why ASM works just as you don't have to know how Lunar Magic works. However you have to understand the actions you can take with each thing and the effects of your actions.

A few months ago I started on a hack. It was almost complete and I was going to release a demo here on acmlm but my hard drive died and took the hack with it. Fast forward to the present and I started on a hack again. It's not much, I don't mean it to be much, it's my first hack! Here are some screenshots. Ill add more later.



I opted for darker colors. They look better IMO.



A level screenshot, I think Mario looks funny in this shot O_o



You're supposed to climb with the vine (which Yoshi can't do) but I added a way for Yoshi to do it as well.

I'd like to thank Kyouji for answering my questions throughout the development of this hack. I will post a demo when I feel the hack is ready. Right now I want to experiment with new graphics and fixing glitches. A demo is guaranteed by the 14th (next week). More screenshots will be posted before that.

My approach to making the hack is simple. I'm not a very good artist so it's not going to have phenomenal visuals. I'm not very creative too so devious levels that make you think are out of the question for the most part. I've kept the hack simple and straightforward, it's as easy (if not easier) than regular SMW but I find it just as fun. It took me several revisions to get the hack to be enjoyable. I've played the first level at least 30 times and I'm still not tired of it. I hope the hack will be as fun for others.

That extra land piece is actually deliberate, I was going to remove it but I think it looks ok, sort of like a part of the island is unstable and is on the verge of a land slide.

I saw the rock overlapping the path, but I never bothered to fix it... must've been tired that day

The squarish land was leftover from the first ideas I had. I'll fix it right away!

-Yeah, my bad... however it's hardly a hint.

2nd shot : I never realized the palette was messed up.

3rd shot : I don't know O_o

Smallhacker :

I will fix the problems I find, and the ones keikonium pointed out.

Pallette : See above, I never noticed, it looked normal to me but I will fix it.

The thwomps aren't angry because I screwed up when taking that shot and I got smashed

Craw's right, this is just a demo. Next demo will have 2 more worlds and some new graphics!

Estimated Release : December 5th (my birthday!)

I have some mixed emotions.

The good :

The hack is beyond professional, it puts Nintendo to shame! Everything looks great! The graphics are breathtaking.

The ASM hacking must've taken a lot of work, I admire things that have a lot of work put into them. This hack is so innovative you just have to change a few sprites and you can call it a different game!

The bad :

The levels are a pain, it might just be me but I loathe the levels. If the levels were as awesome as the graphics I would be smashing my head against my keyboard in bliss. I just don't like the levels, they don't feel like a Mario game for me.

Overall : It's probably just me but the level design is seriously lacking. Also I believe in one of the levels (I forgot which, it's the one where you go underground and there's brown water) has problematic water gfx. The midway point also allows you to gain an unlimited amount of 1 ups if you have the patience.

The first base level was awesome, I was expecting Darth Bowser to pop out and whack me with a lightsabre =P However there are some jumps in the level that are basically blind leaps. It's not that bad but I believe good levels shouldn't have blind jumps.

In Alto Plains 1 there is slow down during the rope ride when you get to the pirahna plants and goombas if you don't kill off some.

My favorite level was the first castle, that was awesome level design =P

The graphics are... wow. However graphics aren't anything, there is something seriously lacking in the levels that pulls the hack down.

Modified version of the previous screenshot, this time with more ground detail and a background. I hope the BG isnt too confusing in the shot, but it's pretty clear throughout the level.

Did you replace currently existing tiles or did you just make more tiles? You need to replace already existing tiles or the file will be too big.
