I hope your grandmother will leave the hospital healthy and in good condition. And it's a good decision to hold the phone line free. Taking care of someone's life is far more important than an internet connection. |

I'd also go rather with editing the small extracted .bin files or the AllGFX.bin for graphics and one existing (resized to the smallest size) .bin file yor one ExGFX file. Editing the plain ROM gives more disadvantage ... and afaik the ExGFX even are not accessible that way As for YY-CHR, it kicks ass generally, but it tends to mess up ExGFX files when edited them in YY-CHR. |

Megaman 3 for NES is my fave MM ever ... really addictive music, especially Hard Man's stage tune, the second boss battle bgm and the second Wily stage theme ... plus great NES GFX and playability I play my games on an emulator since my NES doesn't run too well and very often shows garbled GFX or even freezes after loading I'm using a SpeedLink pad with force feedback ... unfortunately this feature is not supported in any amulator I know ... |

Megaman ranks also could be a nice idea ... they're plenty of sprites in the series to make it a long list of possible rank icons too; like first all normal enemies in ascending strength and then _all_ the bosses I only ripped one single sprite of the series too far, from Megaman 9 ... Forte rocks. But if Acmlm really could make the user rank selectable, I'd go with Rudra sprites and enemies first an rip them all ... |

Originally posted by Fyxe Heh, right, I almost set the delay times too low Hehe, Katt kicks ass, yeah. What about Stan's knife attack, Fyxe ? It is nice done in the game, too Just got up my lazy ass and set up four new sprites from RnH, I had trouble with one and its more than 30 frames, the other very easy due to their low amount of frames (usually four per enemy in its standing animation). But even when I do only a few enemies due to my laziness per day ... except the too big boss sprites they would be neat ranks Bombird BoneKnight Ornith Giant |

When you get the ROM first, don't forget to remove its write-protection if you cannot open it

Mini doors should ensure only a small Mario to enter them, quite obvious But I think in the Block Inserter is a custom block which makes Mario small when passing/touching it (depending on the "Acts like" setting in the 16x16 editor); combining this with a block which removes any stored object in the item box, you can make challenging parts without the cheap trick to have an item up there, then falling into a hole and entering the place small, but with an item saved up there |

Very good screens. I like the forest tiles in screen #1 and especially the Super Metroid tiles in the last screens, wheeee. The background and the iron ledge tiles make a nice atmosphere Time to grab the download, even if it is older. |

ASM is a machine language (assembly) using to program and alter the code in a ROM for example ... the type of ASM you need to learn depends on the processor. For NES it's 6502 and for SNES 65816 for example. For hacking SMW or a game with has a finished level editor you don't need ro know ASM at all ... but for further changes like Mario's height or disabling spin jump for example you'd need to know that programming language (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-20-04 02:54 AM) (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-20-04 02:55 AM) |

Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer For me, Firefox plays back GIFs slightly slower than IE, but since I'm posting from a slower machine, it doesn't wonder. I also had trouble with the Ornith sprite above, in Rudora no Hihou it circulates and flaps plays uber-fast. Usually is is no good rip, because even the eye opens and closes occasionally; the GIF then would have needed about 60 frames in fully ... and when I think that (even if small) a certain number, like in many other RPGs, just comes back with a different color pallette, I'll see the amount of work coming to me Another nasty thing might be even the emulator and the rank themselves. Today I set up four new sprites, I'm just showing one of them (Rudra ... 83 KB ) ... I ripped frame by frame and there are glitches as well ... since this is a combined boss; the capsule with me inside err Surlent only appears if you finish Surlent's scenario before Sion's (yes, SPOILER, I know; don'T do it, finish Sion's scenario first! Rudra is far more harder than the bosses arleady are ) Rudra w/ glitches There are many more beautiful sprites in Rudra, but I want them all; maybe really for an alternate rank set besides Fyxe's Zelda ones then; currently I've only 21 of them. To all rippers outside ... maybe there is someone else who has some neat sprites which could be considered as custom rank sets (assumed Acmlm would implement that later) (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-20-04 11:50 AM) |

I think Yoshi is incompatible with some level headers or register modes. Try using an unused level which 'supports' Yoshi (no Ghost House or Castle tileset for example). Maybe this helps and should be worth a shot

It will take quite a while, when even PNG as an imo worthy successor of GIF will be standard; and it unites more advantages than GIF: Up to 16,7million colors, less space, a free compression algoryhthm (unlike GIF which owns CompuServe and charges license fees for every application which uses it), semi-transparency and even support of one alpha channel. STILL GIF is prior to PNG ... and since a MNG consists of a series of PNGs (a MNG made of GIFs is not true MNG at all |

Fyxe, I have a sprite which was made and used by Phantom Abyll, what he used as an avatar in another forum (to give credit that this is _not_ my work or avatar I made): IE users will see a white background while Opera- and other browsers display the transparency correctly ... And try to zoom that image in your GFX program ... you'll notice a neat experience when trying to see the blue sword light gradient in bigger pixel dimensions |

Originally posted by Jack-Al Heh, same thing here, since a guy got the US copy and had the fitting NTSC adapter to make it play on a PAL SNES FF IV was was my first RPG ever besides the crappy Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (Mystic Quest Legend in Europe) I had already trouble with the cave ... those Trap Doors with their unblockable deadly "Disrupt"-attacks. .. I used tons of Life1 items in that cave The Wall boss got really nasty, since you thought, "Yeah, I' safe, time to leave the Crystal room and that dungeon ", but THEN the walls attacked you; and, yes, the exit spell was blocked of course (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-21-04 02:45 PM) |

Originally posted by Kitten YifferOriginally posted by Fyxe IE has it roots deep in Windows; so all essential data already are loaded. So it's like the environment is loaded and Windows only needs to load the .exe and that's it. But any other browser apart from Internet Explorer has to load its data _in full_ into the system cache. So it's just normal that an alternate browser NEEDS more time to start up. Mozilla users have the option to load a part of their browser into the quick start when the system booted. So already is some of Mozilla's data in the system memory and the computer can load Mozilla faster. And now just think, IE is loaded nearly entirely, since it's a Windows application and rooted with the operating system. Easy. If Mozilla was tied in like this, it would load much faster than now; although it needs more RAM than IE; yes. |

The board seems cluttered up, but merging up forums can bring also disadvantages ... So the General Emulation forum usually has not that much to do with the Gaming forum. Mostly SNES games are emulated, regarding also hacks, ripping sprites etc, while you could review and suggest (as well older and newer) games in the Gaming forum. By the way, someone could rename "Rom Hacking" to "ROM Hacking", how it should be correctly. When people post RAM and CD-ROM, the title of the forum should be proper too (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-22-04 10:21 AM) |
