This kind of stuff interests me. Why are there so many forums? A lot of them go largely unnoticed... I've been gradually migrating across the different forums here (SMW hacks -> GD -> Craziness / Officers', etc.) but there are still, like, 10 forums that I'd probably visit on a regular basis, if I weren't lazy. Chances are that many other people are like this. Hence, the minor forums don't get nearly as many posts as they would otherwise. That is to say that I might have something to add to a Final Fantasy thread, but since I don't visit the FF forum, I don't see the thread, and I don't reply, and hence there is less activity. In my experience, usually boards start with a small number of broad forums, and then branch out for any of the following reasons: 1. The heavily-visited boards get too much activity for members to keep up with, and hence are "split" into smaller boards with a moderate amount of activity. 2. One type of topic dominates a given board, so the board is split so that the common topic gets its own board (ie. lots of Lunar Magic threads in Rom Hacking leads to SMW Hacking getting its own forum.) 3. Group interest. Some small clique of people want their own board, and don't mind if it's more difficult for other people to access... hell, they may even prefer it that way. I dunno what the ACMLM forums originally looked like, but if I had to guess, I'd say that things used to be a fair bit more active than they are today, and hence most boards were created for reasons #1 or #2... to reduce the burdens on other boards. But nowadays, things aren't so active, and it seems too complex to have a bunch of different boards that are slight variants of each other. For example: General Chat + Officers' Club + Craziness Domain + Anya and Christi's Corner could probably go together. Movies/TV/Entertainment + Anime All the gaming forums + General Emulation These are some examples of possible combinations. The new boards would be more crowded, but not too much so... I usually define "too crowded" as when over a page or two of topics is replied to every day. I know that the denizens of the smaller boards would probably be resistant (see reason #3), but it would probably increase overall activity, which is a plus. I know it won't really happen, but I just think it would be a good idea to streamline the boards. |

I agree that SOME forums should be merged together but: General Chat + Officers' Club + Craziness Domain + Anya and Christi's Corner? You can't be serious. It would never work and no one would go for it. No one in power anyway. Any TWO of those merged together wouldn't work let alone all four of them. Movies/TV/Entertainment + Anime That would work. All the gaming forums + General Emulation That's not going to happen either. I do think that we should merget General, FF, and SMB forums together though. Merging the Emu forum in there would make it too cluttered and unorganized. |

I think its good that acmlm has a variety of forums/threads because it wont bunch everyone up in certain ones... it would be cool to have more people be active and that but i reckon acmlm is cool how it is And others boards... the best board i have been to is this one, its so easy to work your way around. Alot of other boards i have visited are too small, don't have much activity or are too big |

Dude. Don't come with that idea of merging forums again. Ace already said that the gaming forums will never merge with general emulation. And there is no need in merge General Chat with Craziness. We all know what kind of threads should be posted in General/Craziness. Officer can't merge neither, since there are only serious topics there. If it was all a big General Chat forum, people won't know what thread is serious or not. |

You can't be serious. It would never work and no one would go for it. No one in power anyway. Any TWO of those merged together wouldn't work let alone all four of them. Eh, I should've warned people not to get too hung up on the details. I could argue that they could all go together - especially Anya + Christi could be dissolved into others - but I don't really care to. It's just the general idea. All the gaming forums + General Emulation That's not going to happen either. I do think that we should merget General, FF, and SMB forums together though. Merging the Emu forum in there would make it too cluttered and unorganized. Emu gets 1-2 threads updated / day... that will not cause an entire forum to become cluttered and unorganized. Some forums are naturally more compatible for merging than others, but if you merge a bunch of loosely related + inactive forums, you do not end up with a mess. Emu is quite inactive, and should be one of the first forums to go. If it was all a big General Chat forum, people won't know what thread is serious or not. You've never been to a message board where the general forum isn't divided into general / craziness / serious sections? Wow. |

"You've never been to a message board where the general forum isn't divided into general / craziness / serious sections? Wow." WOW THAT'S WHAT HE SAID WHAT A MORON >=( "If it was all a big General Chat forum, people won't know what thread is serious or not." wait.. wait.. that's not what he said. I understand where you're going, but the problem is too many people here take things way too seriously. Even in craziness domain, there are those who can't get the point. There's a decent enough activity in Officer's Club, and a lot of people enjoy whining about insignificant problems there. I enjoy avoiding it. It works for everybody. It's a nice idea, but I disagree. I think merging SMB (and maybe FF, I don't look there) would be good because, since it's so inactive, people are inclined to make a lot of dumbass polls. If nothing changed it would not matter. We don't have to save any webspace, despite Smasher's logic. |

Yea, okay, it's not exactly what he said, it's just that must boards don't differentiate those threads, and no one is going "omg wtf" because of it (and if there are, it makes the retards easier to identify.) Anyone's who's been to a board that doesn't differentiate the threads should know this. | |||

The board seems cluttered up, but merging up forums can bring also disadvantages ... So the General Emulation forum usually has not that much to do with the Gaming forum. Mostly SNES games are emulated, regarding also hacks, ripping sprites etc, while you could review and suggest (as well older and newer) games in the Gaming forum. By the way, someone could rename "Rom Hacking" to "ROM Hacking", how it should be correctly. When people post RAM and CD-ROM, the title of the forum should be proper too (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-22-04 10:21 AM) |

Gavin, please learn to make sarcasm at least a little bit funny or don't bother at all. I don't know why everyone's being nitpicky. We're not gaining extra webspace by combining threads. I think if you made a poll, most would agree the forums are fine the way they are. |
