Go to babelfish

i see an option that says "japanese to english". not that machine translation ever does too much good, but at least it's something

however, you could try to find a translation hack of whatever game you're playing (if it's a ROM). otherwise it might get a bit tedious translating it yourself with babelfish.

Bablefish won't translate the game. Only text that you put into it. And if you don't know Japanese, then you won't know what characters to put into it, and won't get a translation.

Xkeeper said it best: No.

you can just copy the characters from the game text into the screen by hand, but as i said that would get very tedious very fast. so yeah, there isn't a magical program that can translate your game for you. a translation hack is your best chance.

I think this is what Synneth Relmn was addressing. There's no way to copy text from a game to your computer, without first copying it down by hand onto a pad of paper or something

What game are you trying to translate? If you've got a ROM of it, there could be a translation patch, but if it's the actual game cart or whatever Wonderswan uses, someone could have already made a translation of the game text and posted it somewhere on the internet. Don't let that get your hopes up too high though. There's no guarantees of whether something like that exists or not.

Well, sometimes you CAN translate things with things like babelfish if the text is uber simple/or they only use single words. Otherwise, it is NOT a good idea.

Well then, assuming you're just trying to get through the game, you could check gamefaqs or a similar site for a walkthrough That's probably the best option, because otherwise you have only two other choices to go by.

1) Copy the text from the game by hand, have a Japanese font installed on your computer, and use charmap to match up the characters with what you've got copied down. Type that out on your computer, of course. Take what you've typed up, and paste chunks of it into altavista's translator, or another translator site that you know of. Rely on that translation to get through the game.

2) Learn Japanese. Not to be mean, but that's honestly the only other way of going about reading what the game says. You could try to make a translation patch of your own, but that would require you to learn Japanese beforehand.

You could try to find someone that knows Japanese, and would be willing to translate what the game says for you, but I don't know anyone that speaks the language in the first place, so it'd most likely be up to you there.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. It's probably easier to learn beginners japanese than try and translate a game without knowledge of the language.

There are 3 problems with what you're asking:
1) No such program exists.
2) To even find, let alone repoint and replace, all the text in a ROM requires far too much intelligence to be automated with current technology. (Meaning, a computer couldn't do it for you.)
3) Computers suck at human languages, so they absolutely cannot translate properly. I need only say one thing to prove this point:

All your base are belong to us

The game that comes from (Zero Wing) was translated by a computer, and it contains almost NO correct grammar.
