Yes, this has been mentioned a bunch of times before, including by myself.

Post options ('disable HTML in this post' and 'disable smileys in this post') would be nice to have; that's all.

HTML can be disabled with the <xmp> tag. As for smilies, I want that too.

I don't really like that. It messes stuff up. Well, if you want to know what I do to prevent tags from working, is I use &lt; for < and &gt; for >.

The only problem with that is if you try to edit your post, &lt; won't stay as a &lt;, and it'll get changed into a REAL <

yeah, I know. what would work would be to run the <textarea>'s contents through PHP's htmlspecialchars() function, which would have the exact same end result, but would keep all &lt;s and &gt;s and such intact.
