well I brought my hack out of the freezer to work on it again. I have not touched doing levels yet, but I have been working my ass off on the overworld for a long time (which is why I needed a break from it). You might remember it if you saw my old thread awhile back. However this time I've worked more on the submaps. But, I am only going to show you the main OW and 'weeping woods', since they are the most complete out of them.

(note: sprites and layer 1 are disabled)

I can say that I know my 8x8 editing pretty good. But I am guessing that when I have to insert pipes/stars/exits its going to be a pain

Well done!
The overworld looks random, yet niiice.
I love the randomization of the doodad placement. Conformity in overworlds tend to be rather boring. This is a great layout!

That overworld looks amazing! I have seen many good hacks out there before, but not as good overworlds. That's why I'm not hacking SMW anymore, the overworld and all the 96 levels takes to much time to make. There are also many good hacks released already that I cannot compete with. But this, this is surely a new SMW game!!! The structure of the overworld may look similar to the original game, but that doesn't matter. I hope the levels will have the same quality that the overworld has. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to try this out! (If you need some help with the levels, feel free to PM. But no, that's your choice...I don't want to ask such weird questions). If someone says that this hack is crappy, don't listen to them, but report it to me, and I shall give them their lessons. Haha, just kidding...

Good luck with the hack

Nowadays, hacks have themes worlds. Yours isn't, and I love that. Excellent job, I can't wait to play it!

If you want to improve something, fix the cliff/ground intersection above the large sand patch near the middle.

I remember this hack from a very long while ago... was it from before the board crash? Yes it was... how could I remember it then...?

The overworld is great. There really isn't a general theme, which is good. Good work.

well that weeping woods screenshot is old (you can tell by the grass texture). And I recently went back to it for touch-up and I smoothed everything out nice. Heres a pic:

I also hope in the future to make the trees look sadder. and get rid of those vertical rugged edges next to the water (fixed that, but not shown in SS)

EDIT

(woo animated gif)

I decided to go with more of a smooth look instead of the default rugged edges in SMW. Still will be adding some roughness to it though, since its too smooth in areas
