Granted, it is suspicious that he hasn't done anything here for a while. Perhaps, now that he's out of school, he has more time to work on it and he's just preparing some big surprise for us.

I'll give him a few more days to post in here, otherwise I'll just close the thread Too much "it's fake, no it's real, stfu!" crap....

A few more days eh? It'll honestly take much longer to have a Game Editor prepared to a good extent that the public can use, and if he's posting here too much, then all his time will be consumed here and not on the project (so I would consider it to be a good thing that he's not posting much ).
Since it'll take a while longer, I suppose he'll make a new thread when he's ready to release the first version, so I guess it doesn't exactly matter if you close the Thread or not.

I still think the possibility of an YY editor is reasonably (sp?) real (and i don't even like the game). We already have the tools to extract the graphics and some data to begin with. I don't think it's 100% fake. Maybe he just though it would be easy to make the editor (carried by the famous lunar magic "omg wtf i can do anything yeeeee!" syndrome) and got "overwhelmed" by the "tedious" work tracking bugs and whatnot.
Maybe not, but if (and only if) he just abandoned the thread to see us fools bitching about it then I would be glad to show him my leet capoeira skeells j00 f00!!!11oneoneone.

I could care less wether or not he releases a public beta: I'd just like to see it load a level.

Surely making it place a 16x16 colored box on the screen for an object isn't too much, right? Hell...

CMED 0.01 did that at least; before I started posting about it I had a working screenshot of it showing the level data, albeit in hex values but still better than seeing nothing but blank windows. It's like Fu did with LM: the only reason he even told people he was workign on it was to stop people from wasting their time., and soon after 1.0 was released.

If you think I'm saying an editor should be fully usable and/or done at the time of release, no, I'm just saying that you should wait until you can at least show a screenshot of it having loaded the level successfully, however lame it looks.

Someone catch him on AIM, I'd love to see what he says about this.

Chankast wasn't fake. I think what happened here, was the guy got a bit excited at the prospect of working on an editor for YI, and made a thread about. He probably realises now that he shouldn't have made a thread so soon, without anything to show for it.

I just used it as an example. People were dissing the chankast "team" left and right, and then when they learned the emu wasn't fake they just went "oooh!"

Maybe he got a little excited and got ahead of it's expectatives(sp?)?

I have to go with the general concensus here, that being he got a little ahead of himself without stopping to think of all the work he'd actually have to do. Easy to understand if you've been there; I saw many posts along the lines of "i want 2 maek an rpg wut do eye dew." on the GameFAQs programming board from people with no clue, and I personally thought it would be cool to do a Sonic 2 hack before I realized all the work involved (Granting I never announced it)--and there were editing tools already available!

So yeah, I understand where he's coming from. Or isn't coming from, as it were.

ok, heres whats going on, basically right now, im looking into the layout of YI's levels a little so I understand it more so ill actually know what im dealing with, that and a few other things, if you want you can close this, as its getting a little to big, ill post another one when I have something significant to show you I would have posted here sooner, but ive been out of town so, I should have something to show soon...I hope...
oh, and dont worry, it'll be done, sooner or later, hopefully not to much later...its just taking longer then I would have hoped...

also one last thing, im gonna try using lunar compress one more time to load the level, if not, ill write my own wrapper for loading levels, but that will take longer....but if I do, it will be YI specific, and ill probably release it for other people to use aswell...and dont worry, this project, even if it takes forever will never be shut down,

I'm a bit.... concerned. I haven't heard much of this thread as of late; I'm starting to think he bagged it. Anyways, I have a few questions of my own:
Are pipes tileset specific? Some levels have different pipe styles, like the heavily animated lava in Tap-tap's fort...
How will you pull off the the many layers? Isn't there a layer 4?
Will the overworld be editable?
Im sure the text will be editable... won't it?

Not a chance my Friend. im actually waiting, right now im working on a website, where im gonna post other peoples hacks. and programs, as well as some things im working on, and thats where you will hear about updates and stuff, so heres whats happening(A priority List):
1st: Doing the site, and uploading programs, and ips patches.
2. learning vb.net, which, is what im gonna do the editor in now, seeing as its more OO(Object Oriented) and it will make a better choice, for multiple reasons, such as: there will be more features, probably faster loading the gfx and probably load the rom faster as well. and a MUCH better layout, because its easier to make a XP style with .NET as well as custom button shapes, etc. What im working on in .NET right now will be the Interface, which ill post later on, and in .net ill have more control over what happens. and after the YI editor, ill be working on 2 things,
1. A sample hack, to show Island Magic(New Name, Thanks to whoever mentioned it) and
2. Other Rom editors for roms with all the data, but no editor....

Well Thats about what I have to say..... ill post Interface screenshots tonight.

to answer some of your questions:

1. Im not to sure about the Pipes.....
2. With the layers, im gonna make it so you can switch by right clicking anywhere in level editor interface.
3. The overworld, will be editable. if you can call it an overworld....
4. as will the text.
