As for the price itself, that's way too high if you ask me. The only way I can see they'd even think of making an intital price that high is if it can do a whole lot more than just play games, out of the box. By that, I know that the XBox can play DVDs, but you need to buy the attachment and remote control. For the XBox 360, maybe it'll be able to do the same without having to buy anything extra. I know my friend Josh reserved one at EB Games (that cost $50 alone), so it's obvious he really wants it. I don't know which package he plans on going for, although knowing him, it'll be the more expensive one. So far though, the only games he's looking forward to are Halo 3 and Perfect Dark Zero I suppose having two games to look forward to is better than none I had no plans to get one of these, even before hearing the initial price, but now that this news has come out, I'm even more glad I made that decision I guess the only thing we can hope for right now is a price drop after it's been out for a decent amount of time, but who knows what sales are going to be like when it is released? |

Before you guys go making claims about how outrageous the price is, remember that Microsoft is eating money on each of these. I intend to buy one a while after it comes out, especially if I can't get TES4: Oblivion to run on my computer at a decent framerate. It'd cost some $400 to upgrade my PC anyways. Nintendo might change my mind with the Revolution, but it's still so secretive that I can't make an any sort of prediction about it. I think I'm through with Sony; Anyone who talks about Microsoft being money whores hasn't looked at what Sony has done to thier consumers over the years. Did MIcrosoft ever release a $300 piece of hardware that has a serious malfunction and have the audacity to call that malfunction a "feature"? (In reference to the PSP's square button, in case you didn't pick that up) And only fucking idiots use the term "Micro$oft." Edit: There's an interesting article over at 1up.com about Micrsoft in the Japanese market. read it. (edited by witeasprinwow on 08-19-05 04:49 PM) (edited by witeasprinwow on 08-19-05 04:49 PM) |

All there $100 plus deal is is just added accessories and stuff like that, not exacly "another model" of the system, from what I've heard ... I could careless. Honestly this console bashing has gotten pretty old. I'm am an owner of an Xbox, Gamecube, and PS2. Guess what, I like them all! I'm buying a 360 because Live will be great. There's Perfect Dark Zero, you can play mp3's during any game whenever you want, there's great launch titles like Gears of War and so on. And it's also going to be at a reasonable price. From what I've heard the PS2 could be as much as $500. But again, do I care? No. Because in maybe 3-4 years or so, I'll probably be an owner of a 360, PS3, and Revolution, and will more than likely be playing them all reguraly. Consoles mean nothing, games do. |

Originally posted by Colleen Missed this the first time through... Colleen, you either misstated something, or you're looking at it incredibly unfairly. If you only look at the 20GB HD and judge the cost increase on that addition alone, then of course it's going to look like a rip-off. Read again: "...and a souped-up $399 version that ships with a 20GB hard drive, a wireless controller, a wireless headset, a limited-edition wireless Media Center remote, and HD-capable component A/V cables." Still a bit pricy, but not nearly as ridiculous as just the HD for $100. Also, another thing I noticed: The guy at C.net says there's no launch titles, when, in fact, there are titles scheduled for the launch date. Xeolord just mentioned one of them. That's what you get for taking advice from C.net, I guess. EDIT: In fact, I just found a list of games that are supposed to be launch titles. As the article says, the list is a bit out of date, as some of those games had to be delayed... But I do remember reading that FFXI, Oblivion, Madden 06, Dead or Alive 4, and Perfect Dark Zero were all scheduled for launch. (edited by witeasprinwow on 08-19-05 10:11 PM) |

Wow, that's a lot of money. Of course, I'll have to pay it on layaway just like I did with my GBA, DS, GC, and PS2.Originally posted by Xeolord You mean the PS3 will cost $500 right? The PS2 is already out. |

Why does anyone think that there won't be any games to launch on the same day as the 360? The article said there were not any set launch titles. That means they haven't decided yet which games will be released packaged with the 360 or available in such packages. sigh. And I would put my own personal thoughts here, but it's quicker to just tell you to read Xeolord's post and pretend it's in this big spot here. |

Well it's all about their consumer trends. Nintendo's main consumer is kids, so they try to make their consoles cheap and durable and their games simple but fun. Sony's sales come mostly from the brand name and their consoles' ability to do pretty much whatever, and of course their long, complex RPGs. (They do seem to suck at hardware quality, though, but it usually gets better with later revisions.) Microsoft's main selling point is that the Xbox is great for parties - holds tons of music, and has a lot of multiplayer games. Xbox's durability takes a hit, however, because it's so expensive to make they actually lose money on it. (They make it up in game sales.)

Keep in mind that Sony has nothing to do with the development of a large majority of the games that are released for thier consoles (Same with Microsoft, except for Bungie and Rare); They simply produce the hardware needed for those games. PS1 was relatively well-made, but both PS2s and PSPs have had severe flaws (PS2 with the lens and the fact that they marketed a vertical stand that actually damaged the system; PSP with the square button getting blocked by the screen) that have made the systems at least flawed and, in some cases, totally useless. Nintendo might seem to care more about making sure they have quality games, but since very few people were making 3rd party games for the GC and almost none for the N64, it's probably because they HAVE to make quality games themselves to ensure the success of thier consoles. Originally posted by HyperHacker Hyper, I'm willing to bet that if Sony and Nintendo weren't losing money on GC / PS2, then they were just barely above breaking even. I'd also be willing to bet that all 3 companies will be eating money on thier next consoles. It's inevitable; They can't keep raising the price or they'll lose thier edge over PC gaming. |

I personaly think that every single feature that is hyped about this new XBox is a feature i could get by playing a game for my PC. Online? Headsets? MP3 playing? I am not trashing the system at all! I am just saying that for this kind of money (which, I don't exactly have), I do not have a practicle use for this kind of a system. But that does not mean I think it 'sucks' or is a bad system! Just not the right one for me.

Yeah, the only real reason to get any game system instead of just buying PC games is to play the games that don't have PC versions. You gotta admit, the features are nice, even if it's practically the same as a PC. Now, if every good game that comes out for a given system also comes out on PC, then you might want to re-think your purchase. But of course, keep in mind that upgrading a PC every 2 months to play the latest games can get expensive, while a game console usually lasts a good 5 years or so. PC games are designed to be as realistic as possible, to the point where the PC is designed for the game, while console games are designed to work within the console's specifications (and maybe an add-on or two) until said specs are considered crappy compared to competition or games have to be significantly stripped down. Originally posted by witeasprinwowPS1 was relatively well-made Didn't the first models overheat?
Probably, but the loss, if any, wasn't as significant as Microsoft's. Particularly in Nintendo's case since they make all their own parts; Sony I don't know so much about. |

GBA to NDS. Huge upgrade. PS2 to PS3. Supposed to be huge. X-box to X-box 360. I heard this was just a minor upgrade. Damn..... Microsoft, here me now! Focus on your computers, now your dumbass systems! |

Actually, Microsoft pretty much got lucky by picking up Halo. From what I've heard, they didn't even start Halo, but they pretty much picked a lot of it up, give it a little bit of polish, and that was about it. And basically, the big "WHOAMG SHOOTER" guys picked up on it, then they bought a bunch of crap for their Xbox, so they wouldn't have to buy other games for other systems. Basically, it WAS a question of launch titles or very-close-to -launch. Microsoft just got a big one, and rode with it. But still, a hundred bucks for a hard drive? I guess they have to cash in SOMEwhere. |

why complain about it you know your going to get one anyways, and i cant remember exactly, but i dont think it was Microsoft trying to sell connectivity to the GBA, wich required a $15 cord, and a $30 game for the GBA, and the $50 game... |
