Guh. I've played the original Mario Bros. levels to death. If I wanted to play Mario Bros, I'd play Mario Bros. I don't want to play Mario Bros - I want to play Mario World. The status bar further drives me off. Seriously, WTF. Nothing you could do about it? Try not putting the background palette as palette zero or palette one, that should work pretty well :x

Well you can have colours on palette 2 or 3 which i think is the best suggestion or you can have it in pallete 0 or 1 just dont have the colours anywhere between colour 9 or F

Hey, I'm not whining, I'm giving advice in the form of criticism; I never said that it wasn't well done, after all. I just said it didn't appeal to me. Plus, it would be better if he fixed the status bar palette, which I don't think would be too difficult; without a layer two it would be pretty easy to just put the background on palette three and rarely/never have problems.

Not to be mean or anything but does the status bar really matter now? I mean, the hack is released and all now. Peter said that he coulden't fix it (,or so I think). But does it really matter now? It's been said enough thus far after him showing much screens on his hack. I'm sure that he knows that he needs to fix the bars and stuff. No need to keep repeating it over and over again, because it's really annoying...

I, personally, do not really notice the status bar problem. After all, it's a hack of Super Mario Bros. As far as I can remember, Super Mario Bros. didn't have a status bar way back in 1985.

You need to fix the ending REALLY badly.

Hey everyone. He released it basically as a game someone else could start a hack from. I doubt he is going to fix anything, you want to use it fine, it just a benchmark, not a candidate for most awesome hack ever.

What would have been really cool, if peter put all of the Yoshi Coins in the spots of the Red Coin challenge thing in Super Mario Bros. DX. That would have been neat.

And I'm feel my klepto urge kickin' in for the GFX on this hack....

What about using custom blocks that cycle through animations and hurt only on certain frames. It would take alot of blocks and even more planning, but I think you could make something of a fire bar.

That's a poor excuse if I ever heard one. It took me all of 20 minutes to fix the status bar for the first level. Considering the number of different tilesets (maybe 7 or 8) and the fact they all use more or less the same palettes equals a quick and easy fix. It really isn't THAT hard to edit the graphics to get around the limitations.

Well, in response to that JJ, someone a while back commented on how it might not be palette problems. Just because someone thinks it looks bad doesnt mean its a problem. Personally, I wouldn't mind having the whole thing up top erased but have a little timer in the corner. Who really cares what it looks like? Not me.

I certainly don't mind a change every now and again. Intentionally changing just the palette of the status bar can be a refreshing change. However, when it's an obvious side effect of simply importing a palette from another game that you just don't care enough to fix, well... that says a lot about the maker.
