Guh. I've played the original Mario Bros. levels to death. If I wanted to play Mario Bros, I'd play Mario Bros. I don't want to play Mario Bros - I want to play Mario World. The status bar further drives me off. Seriously, WTF. Nothing you could do about it? Try not putting the background palette as palette zero or palette one, that should work pretty well :x | |||

Hey, I'm not whining, I'm giving advice in the form of criticism; I never said that it wasn't well done, after all. I just said it didn't appeal to me. Plus, it would be better if he fixed the status bar palette, which I don't think would be too difficult; without a layer two it would be pretty easy to just put the background on palette three and rarely/never have problems. I, personally, do not really notice the status bar problem. After all, it's a hack of Super Mario Bros. As far as I can remember, Super Mario Bros. didn't have a status bar way back in 1985. Excellent job, peter_ac! I await your Lost Levels hack, with the new levels up to world D-4! |

What about using custom blocks that cycle through animations and hurt only on certain frames. It would take alot of blocks and even more planning, but I think you could make something of a fire bar. | |||

Considering the number of different tilesets (maybe 7 or 8) and the fact they all use more or less the same palettes equals a quick and easy fix. Well, in response to that JJ, someone a while back commented on how it might not be palette problems. Just because someone thinks it looks bad doesnt mean its a problem. Personally, I wouldn't mind having the whole thing up top erased but have a little timer in the corner. Who really cares what it looks like? Not me. | |||

I certainly don't mind a change every now and again. Intentionally changing just the palette of the status bar can be a refreshing change. However, when it's an obvious side effect of simply importing a palette from another game that you just don't care enough to fix, well... that says a lot about the maker. |
