The button switches on my mouse have apparently developed intermittent contact bounce. Sometimes when I intend to single click, a double click will be registered instead. It is an optical mouse, so tracking is as good as new. I'd hate to replace it, considering that the mouse is still fundamentally useful, and because PS/2 not safe to hot swap, I'd lose a lot of state by closing all the apps I have running. |

I hope it not because the exclamation point is not being added to the URL in the database to flag encrypted page views. That leads to ugly hacks all over the place. A separate field in the database is better.
Also, why is port 81 used instead of 443? EDIT: It's gone now. |

On my first attempt at the test I used the spacebar and got times >0.3s. My second attempt was with the touchpad button and had similar results. On the attempt that resulted in the above scores, I placed both index fingers on the touchpad button, and I applied slight pressure to the button, but not enough to click, while waiting for the light. BTW, I didn't want to go the trouble of taking a screenshot, cropping it, saving it, and uploading it, so instead, I went to the trouble of coping the HTML of the table, removing the extra cells, switching formatting to CSS, debugging the HTML, overriding the board's style, and removing a bunch of linebreaks. It takes up less storage on the server, loads faster, and looks just as good. |

I don't know if there are any docs, but I would consult the source code for an emulator to learn about the algorithm. Just don't copy the code if you have not properly thought about the license. |

This problem has been reported before, and a workaround is available. You will need the CorFlags tool that comes with the .Net SDK. |

Posted by blackhole89 I think that it is more of a reason to make and keep backups at a location remote from the main server. If it is difficult to make backups regularly, the backup process should be automated. |

At some point after the game was started, the instructions must have been put into RAM. If you use an emulator with a debugger, you may be able to use breakpoints to either break when that address($091199) is called, or when that address is written to. In the former case you can disassemble the subroutine at that address, and in the latter case you can locate the code that puts the subroutine into RAM. |

BH98: Perhaps they used a tool like Warrick that can automatically retrieve web sites from Google cache, The Wayback Machine, and similar services. |

This is one of the few times that I agree with Stark. This has been discussed before, but there was no consensus that users may not edit their own thread's titles. The main reason for not having this feature is laziness on the part of those with server access. I even posted secure, polished, and debugged PHP code for such a feature, but it was rejected for rather weak reasons. |

I remember the idea for more contact fields being discussed back in 2007 before Xkeeper left. I suggested a mechanism to allow staff without file system or database access to add new contact types and allow users to add multiple contacts of the same type. Of course, nothing came of any of the discussion, and I'm sure most of the people here know exactly why.
I haven't suggested this before, but I have wondered about adding OpenID support. Specifically, allowing users to use their profile page as an OpenID identifier, and allowing users to verify their web site contacts that are OpenID identifiers. The former is intended as a way to make this site a hub for its members and promote it, and the latter is just a way to provide more trustworthy links. BTW, I don't have a Youtube account. If I feel the need to post a video, I'll likely use the uploader, possibly in conjunction with the new HTML 5 <video> tag. EDIT: Previewing my post converted the "<" and ">" into "<" and ">". The text area on the preview reply page needs better escaping. |

The educational style of primary and secondary schools in the US has been on my mind lately. Coincidentally, it is the time of year that the school year begins. This seems like a good time to post some links, and suggest that students become familiar what they have to say. These likely will be an eye opener for some, and confirmation of what is painfully obvious to some others.
http://www.thememoryhole.org/edu/school-mission.htm This page contains some quotes found in The Underground History of American Education, and commentary based on them. While reading a whole book is generally preferred, this page hits some of the most important high points. http://cuip.uchicago.edu/~cac/nlu/fnd504/anyon.htm This is a condensed article from 1980 about the different types of education given to students in different social classes. Things have changed somewhat since then, but not enough, I think. EDIT: Had to fix tags: angle brackets were double escaped inside the textarea of the preview page. |

During the summer it was announced that GeoCities will be shutting down on October 26. There is less than a week left to download anything from GeoCities that you, or someone else, may be interested in keeping. The exact time of day that the shutdown will occur has not been specified, so to be safe you should assume that it will occur just as soon as the date changes to the 26th in the first time zone to do so.
The Internet Archive has been doing a deep crawl of GeoCities, and they have been taking URLs to spider from. However, there is no guarantee that any sites submitted will be crawled in time for the closing. A user posting in a thread on the Internet Archive forums suggests using HTTrack to download sites. Those comfortable with the command line may want to use good old Wget. |

It looks like sites are starting to go down. http://www.geocities.com/acmlm_jf32/ is giving out 503 errors but http://www.geocities.com/dreaming_anya/ is still working as I type. |

I added this to my private copy of AB2 a couple of years ago. I don't think that I completely finished it. Here is the code FWIW:
fonlineusers.phps (I originally had this inline, but it falsely triggered the anti table breaking check.) This is meant to be called from pageheader() right before the final table end tag is printed. It appears I intended it to be called even on a page that does not pertain to a specific forum. In that case, it would reset the user's lastforum column and suppress output. |

There was a commentary on a news website based in a nearby town about the lack of snowfall in recent years.
More on topic: it's colder, and there is a slight chance of freezing drizzle Sunday night. |

As someone who lives in the south, I wish snow fell more often. It seems like almost all of the snow falls in small amounts and is gone within a day or two. |

According to a local TV station, there may be a new record low tonight (ie Thursday morning). There was some precipitation within the last few days, but it was gone before the freezing temperatures arrived. |

Snow just started to fall, but the air temperature is 35℉. The air temperature has been above freezing for days and is not expected to drop below freezing until 5am local time, which is about when the snow is expected to stop falling. Therefore, I expect the snow to not accumulate much and melt quickly after the sun comes up. |

I guess the National Weather Service forecast is a bit off. According to our thermometer, the air temperature is 30℉, and midnight is still almost an hour away. There is snow all over the place outside. |
