Cool. I've been having lemonade a lot lately too, even though it's probably not the healthiest choice.
From what I remember, the reason why old sections were taken away was mostly inactivity. At the time when Lunaria became a part of staff a couple years ago, there were changes to the main layout and organization of the board, with some sections being taken away from the regular members, and in a sense, the purposes for some sections were combined to try to make it more appealing for new potential members. I remember that there was even a My little Pony section, though it didn't really generate a lot of activity at all from what I recall. If anything, members (and potential members) who don't watch the show would probably have only felt more excluded considering the sections that did get taken away, and then a section like that would be made. Though it's similar to having the game specific sections, too. Those aren't really active either, but the members who do appreciate having them because it's for their favourite game to hack do still come around on occasion. If anything, there has been discussion over the years about why there has never been a Mega Man specific section for hacking, and if anything, that's all that I ever see anymore. There's a main Mega Man thread in the ROM hacking section, and new members will still go and make new threads anyway for their questions. Though it had also been questioned over the years why there wasn't a Super Mario Bros. 3 section, especially back when there were all those people wanting to hack it in 2009. Not so much anymore, unfortunately. At this point, I've just always been appreciative that Board 2 still exists, and there is still some ROM hacking related activity that primarily goes on here and not elsewhere, which is cool. It doesn't matter what those other people have tried to say over time about it not being active and that it should be archived. As long as there are still people getting use out of it, those people shouldn't keep taking time out of their own lives just to try to ruin the fun for others.  |

1: Didn't realise Lunaria was behind this. I noticed she was demoted longtime ago, and only started logging back in a little while ago.
2: The game-specific forums are pretty dead now it seems. 3: A Mega-Man board would work well, as you say. In fact, it's one of the only things board2 seems to be known for now, really. 4: You'd like that a lot, wouldn't you? 5: I always liked board2 also. Despite its inactivity, it has something about it. The rom hacking stuff is good, yep. This site's good for ROM Hacking for newbies and experts, questions are answered quickly and helpfully. Those other people that registered to say 'this is dead' are probably Mega-Mario (created 'derpo' and 'YouKnowWho') and he moans about Board 2 on other sites. Just because Board 2 is dead doesn't mean it stays dead. It's got a bit more activity lately and people are staying more. ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

To be fair, I didn't mean to suggest that Lunaria was at fault for anything. I just recall that, a couple years ago, they were granted a higher position, and they did their best to try to help bring the board back to life. Part of that, which could have been a decision amongst all of the staff and not Lunaria specifically, was reorganizing the sections, trying to eliminate the dead ones so that the board wouldn't look as inactive overall.
Surprisingly, yes. Years ago, it was Super Mario Bros. 3 specifically. Now it's multiple Mega Man games. I wouldn't have minded a Super Mario Bros. 3 section back when a lot of people were beginning to hack it. It would have helped keep all of the SMB3 related threads organized, and perhaps would have encouraged even more posting than there already was. Now, there really isn't any purpose for it anymore. The time, unfortunately, has passed. Not even the General SMB3 Hacking Thread is active anymore. It depends on the individuals, the projects going on, and whether or not people feel like chatting publicly in general. Motivation and freedom to do so comes and goes. |

Yes. The Mega Man thread seems to be the main part for new Board 2 members and I appreciate that the board has become known for it, because it means there is new activity.
I didn't realise SMB3 was the main thing either before. Perhaps that will change in the future but who knows. At least this board currently is known for hacking retro games and not newer stuff which probably helps too, since people are interested in the older games, somewhat more after the newer ones, years after they have started the hacking scene. Anyway I don't remember what I implied about Lunaria, but I don't think I meant anything too harsh. ____________________ Jamie Dignam |
