Posted by Tarale AMEN to that. It infuriates me as a GH player, and as a gamer that so many people dismiss GH so callously because, "That's not how you play a real guitar." No one plays GH to learn to play guitar. No one plays GH because they think it feels like a real guitar. No one who plays GH has any aspirations of becoming a real-world guitar master. They play it because its different, high-quality, rewarding and fun, and aren't afraid to show it. Learning/Playing a real guitar can be just as entertaining and fun, but these two things are completely different beasts. |

For me, I like Guitar Hero better than playing a real guitar. It's less painful. |

What's awkward is when the song you're playing on Guitar Hero is one you already know how to play on guitar. I'd say it's more of a help than a hindrance, though. The first time I ever played GH, I got something like 85% on 'Woman' on Hard difficulty. I did get messed up by some parts where the buttons were kind of contrary to the actual guitar part, but I doubt I'd have done that well if I didn't already know the song.
Either way, I found the game pretty fun. I'll probably pick it up if I ever get a PS2 or 360. |

Posted by KPhoenix as much as I agree with you (playing guitar for real is awesome), I have to say that this game is all about the fantasy. hell, on guitar hero, you can "play" songs that easily outclass your skill. This game allows non-players to live that fantasy if only for a second. I play a real guitar (and am downloading Frets on fire to try it out), and I'm saving every penny to get a new guitar right now (check my thread in modern art...) anyway, if guitar is your fantasy, I really recommend actually trying to learn. |
