Yeah I posted a thread in help and support noting that issue.
EDIT: To clarify, I wasn't wondering what caused it, I was wondering why it had been overlooked.

I just noticed something. Right next to the blue bird, appears to be broken egg shells. This opens up the possibility that the blue bird once played a part in the plot and hatched from an egg, kind of like Yoshi.

This also opens up a theory that the Blue Bird might have once replaced Yoshi in an early beta.

I doubt it though. :/

The bluebird isn't in the game by default, but you can find it if you tinker with Lunar Magic a bit.

*sigh* Yes, the bluebird is an overworld sprite, and it is very well known.

Well, they were originally going to make Yoshi some dino bird thing, but the idea was scrapped. I don't know the chances of the the blue bird being "Yoshi" though, but it's a theory, anyway...

It's probably just a coincidence that the shells are next to the bird. Nothing relevant to each other.

Your theories are as much bullshit as jargon's left testicle, and that's saying something.

Yakibomb's are worse though.

Those tiles you're referring to as egg shells are the bluebird's wings. That is why they are next to its graphics.

And that sketch is the first one Shigeru Miyamoto ever drew of Yoshi when he first proposed the character for SMB2j for the famicom. It was by no means a final design or anything of the sort.

Ah, would explain the SMB'ish Mario. I do recall him saying that he orginally planned it for a NES Mario, but it wasn't until SNES he was able to do Yoshi.

I'm curious, I hadn't seen the design sketches before.
