The level graphics look great. They look more childish, which is a good thing, but
the actual levels feel kind of empty, liven it up a little

As for the map shot, it looks great. Not those old standard shaded or unshaded paths, an actual path.

Also, nice Toad sprite. It really fits into graphical style of the game.

Should Toad have just an outer black outline, or darker inner lines, too?:

I think the inner lines make him look kind of muddled.

The second one looks better. It does kinda blend his "cap" with his face. And aside from that, his left eye should be darkened (right, if you want to get technical).

I like the right one better, and it fits better with the rest of the sprites, too...

The head definitely looks better, but I still have reservations about the inner outlines on his vest. Maybe if I got rid of the yellow trim I'd have a bit more room to work. (I already had to remove the trim on little Toad because of lack of space)

Black outlines may not look the best to some, but they improve the visibility of your sprites (and add a classic feel to them)...

On screen 3, Toad's sprite, on its own, looks fine. However, on screen 4, it doesn't stand out enough because of the background... Sooo, blacklines is the easy way to get things to look good. Otherwise it's updating all the sprites and making sure the backgrounds don't get in the way.

I agree with Stifu about the outline of Toad's sprite. It does sorta stick out too much. And Toad's head looks a little odd. It's too vertical.
