Gaming World is a haven of stupidity but I check their tutorials from time to time to brush up on some complex things.
Oh, and I saw a screenshot somewhere of fighting a kitten in a paper bag, beat that! (edited by Dragonsbrethren on 02-03-06 05:12 AM) |

I got my copy of the FF3 translation on the original cartridge from there, but those aren't flash carts, those are a real NES cartridge with the ROM swapped out for another one. They're also expensive, so I'd only go there for hacks/translations I really want on a cartridge.
About Mega Man's graphics, don't ask me how they work, I've never looked into them, but YY-CHR has a .adf format that is supposed to reorder tiles to make sense (There's one included for SMB1, which is great, makes editing everything so much easier) |

There's assloads of my stuff that even I don't have anymore:
Castlevania Retold 1.0 (If anyone has this drop me a line, I'd like to stick it up on the CV Retold page I'm making) Final Fantasy IV DKK Edition Demo (Minor text edit) Final Fantasy VI DKK Edition Demo (Text hack and the first town were complete) Mario Evolution (Level 8 ruled... I also made it) Mega Man Mania (MM1 hack, a four level demo was given out at TEK) Proto Man: The Red Bomber 4.0 (Yes, I got all the way up to 4.0, this was by far the best version, it upgraded all the game's graphics!) As I said, if anyone happens to have this stuff, especially CV Retold 1.0 and Mega Man Mania, send me an e-mail. |

YY-CHR has .adf files that tell it to show the graphics in certain positions in the editor, one is included for SMB1, but I don't know how you actually make one. They're pretty cool, it makes editing SMB1 a lot easier.

Yeah, that's similar to what's happening to my game, I have way to many "special" battle commands and limit breaks, I haven't even decided how I want certain characters to behave. I haven't even started on equipment that gives abilities...
I haven't even finished the first dungeon yet. |

You need to learn how to take a good screenshot, you do it at the proper resolution without any graphics filters, like this:
Anyway, I'm fairly certain Dr. Robotnik's graphics are compressed, I'm sure someone here can link you to a document with the offsets of compressed graphics. Lastly, I won't be playing this hack, it just doesn't interest me. |

The reason it's so easy to make a hack too hard is simple: If we're hacking a game, we've probably already mastered it.
I had this problem with CV Retold, until I watched people play it I thought the difficulty was about average, there were a few tough spots, but other than that it was fine. Watching someone die in level 1 repeatedly told me otherwise... heh. |

First of all, I'd upload the patches but it seems my host's server has crashed... second of all, I doubt anyone will really care about this, but it's a little special to me for I just found a version of my first ROM hack I didn't think existed anymore. Thank you pirates for taking credit for my hard (Actually, now that I think about it, damn easy) work!
Proto Man: The Red Bomber 1.0! Ugh, the sprite was ugly, I was never really happy with it but it was much better than the other Proto Man hacks that were out at the time (Which were mostly half-assed copy and paste jobs of Proto Man from MM3 over the standing animation) See above description.
Whoa, I wrote that divel? Anyway, this is the only version I've known was still around, it's still available on ZD. This is what is special, it was only available on the X-Hackers website (Anyone remember that?) and I thought it was long gone: Proto Man: The Red Bomber 3.0! It should be noted I did not create the PROTO graphic, I stole it (Yes, as in used without permission) from a Proto Man hack for Mega Man 5. I also forgot to remove the original shadowing behind MAN... Woo, shadowed fonts! Much better sprite, nowadays I'd just stick MM3 Proto Man's head on Mega Man's body and make a few edits, back then I lacked the skill to do that and drew my own. I'm still proud of this climping-shooting animation, it looks great, even if the shield is a little small. Other details: 1-up is stolen from MM5, Powerups stolen from other MM games, changing life bars was "in" at the time. I went through three life bar designs, undivided, shrinking boxes, and finally transparent empty background, which you see in the screenies. I don't think there was ever a version 2.0, if there was I sure don't remember it. (edited by Dragonsbrethren on 02-06-06 06:28 AM) |

I figured that's how it worked, I was just too lazy to actually look into it.

Nah, I just worded that bad, I was half asleep at the time. The zip file had the name of a ROM site, while at first I thought it was someone taking credit for it... heh.

Yeah, it took me a few savestates to get through Poisonous Offering, but unlike the hack that's linked it was actually fun to play as well.

That's another thing, it won't work with most of the graphics in the Mega Man games, but YY-CHR supports ordering the graphics in many ways, including the ever popular FC/NES x8, which is used by just about every NES RPG out there.

There are a couple of tools that can do it, if you happen to be using ESE II it was a checksum fixer built in, if not get Fix Checksum from the downloads section at Sonicology.

I point you to an emulator that strives for accuracy: BSNES
Maybe if someone asks nicely byuu will consider adding said feature. |

I've never played any of the e-reader levels, but it should be possible to port the layouts and such. There are unused levels in SMB3 you can replace.

You should upgrade to YY-CHR, as I said above it has a few different ordering styles for the tiles, which makes editing some graphics (Mostly sprites) a lot easier.

Boo, hoo, you use a different operating system. Had "Fu" and Lunar Magic never existed, you'd be in the same boat, maybe worse (After all, you wouldn't have anyone else's hacks to play). If you want an editor that damn bad write one yourself.

I opened up my NES to clean the connector a long time ago, it's worked flawlessly ever since.
Until I decided to shell out $150 for the new model PS2 I was "repairing" it my old one monthly so it could read CDs again... |
