With Hard, I don't mean impossible.
This hack can be completed, but it will not be humanly possible, due the fact that the hack is astoundingly hard. It is very unforgiving, and most paths are one way. You will have to collect mushrooms ~ In order to just lose them later. You start at 0 lives. You must collect every coin so you can get a 1-up at the end of game. Which you will need only to kill yourself later at the game. You can jump anytime you want. Even in the air. Less than 20 people in the world have completed this hack. (Please note that this is not made by me) Please note that the ROM must be "Super Mario Bros [E], [a1]" . Or that's the one that I tested it with, at least. Feel free to post your comments about this hack,or post another one which you will think that is harder. (edited by Raccoon Sam on 02-05-06 10:26 AM) (edited by Raccoon Sam on 02-05-06 10:29 AM) |

This hack is ok...but sometimes "too hard" is a bad thing. I lose interest in this really quickly. Going through the whole game with no lives isn't fun or challenging...

Frank15's hacks http://www.geocities.com/plinko50000/hacks.html Don't say mine is the hardest hack because it's normal gameplay except for SMB3 the lost levels for SMAS which the difficulty is highly extreme. (edited by insectduel on 02-05-06 02:36 PM) |

I've never thought difficulty was all that great of a metric for judging hacks anyway. At least not the kind I like.

Originally posted by Gavin Exactly. If a hack is really easy, but fun to play, it's still good. If it's really hard but still fun, same deal. However, it's easier for hackers to cross the "too hard" line than it is to cross the "too easy" line. |

The reason it's so easy to make a hack too hard is simple: If we're hacking a game, we've probably already mastered it.
I had this problem with CV Retold, until I watched people play it I thought the difficulty was about average, there were a few tough spots, but other than that it was fine. Watching someone die in level 1 repeatedly told me otherwise... heh. |

Why not just make levels with nothing but platforms you have to jump between? You know, like those ones in the original where you'd just run over the small space then suddenly fall in the slightly larger pit. Boring, but hard as... well, hard as a hard thing. =P

morgoth galaxius's 'poisonous offering' is probably the most difficult hack i've ever played, CV or not...

Yeah, it took me a few savestates to get through Poisonous Offering, but unlike the hack that's linked it was actually fun to play as well.

Originally posted by Raccoon Sam Yea, I think this was TAS'd a short while ago. I died laughing at some of the crap you have to do in the game. You basically have to know all the errors in the original game's programming in order to complete it. [digs] The TAS comment page. The TAS itself. Pretty insane. |

Well, to be fair, AIR wasn't exactly intended for mere mortals... |
