That looks good. If you want to mae a Secret of Evermore editor, I've recently found some data relating to alchemy and event data.

I wonder how many miniutes it would take for me to find all that ASM data you are looking for? To be honest, all of them should be very easy to find via rom corruption and knowlege of the game's ram. I haven't started on SNES assembly yet, but if I ever finish my Blaster Master hack, maybe I can go take a look.

After about a half hour of rom corruption, I found the boss drop data, but there are some complications. First of all, the heart container is not a sprite on the sprite index. Instead it is composed of a graphic, and a what I call a "live chest". This means the data for the heart is actually treasure chest data, not a sprite. This is good in a way because if hacked, it could be possible to have certain monsters drop more than just heart containers. The heart container that the boss drops is called "muteheart" and is inded 62, or 3E in hex.
However, there are 2 other problems not including finding the heart graphic. The first is that you can only use treasure chest values, and heart pieces do not have an entry. It could be corrected if the treasure chest assembler is found. Second, the heart container contains code that further introduces the pendant/crystal. Any other item causes the game to hang. For this to be corrected, the code that makes the game continue would have to be edited to the item that's desired, or the item data would need to be copied to entry 3E. Either way it will take some more work to make it work. This is my initial finding. If I find anything else, I'll post it. |

Well I wasn't expecting to make a major contribution to the project. I was just curious how quickly it would take me to find the data via pure rom corruption(half an hour).

Rom corrupting is a talent and a skill. Things are difficult when you have to locate data you have no clue how it is stored. The trick, is that you need to imagine all the possible ways somthing could be coded in. In this case, I got inspired and looked for a treasure chest entry that fit the bill, and the rest was just searching. For the Turtle Rock event and stuff like that, it's going to be a bit harder. I'll look, but only if it hasn't been found yet. LTTP is not one of the roms I am intimatly familiar with(unlike LA and OOS in which I am king there).

I have some updates to my hack:
First of all, so far I have implemented 3 full new upgrades; Spike Guard, Jet Boots, and Rapid Fire. Spike Guard is self explanitory, and so is rapid fire. As for Jet boots, let's just say that it will turn the overhead section of level 7 into a freaking slip-n-slide. It's totally awesome and it only took like 14 bytes to make it too. So that's 3 out of a possible 8. A few more ideas I have: Subtank - invisible counter that upon death, will refill your energy. Unlike other upgrades, this one will require you to find it again before it will work. Tank Armour: If I can find the routines, armour that lessens the damage. Wall Piercing: Another gun upgrade. Infinite Hover: Actually that's going to be in, and it WILL be manditory to finish the game. This leaves one or 2 upgrades left(if armour does't work out). That means I am still open to suggestions. Keep them reasonable, and stick to side view upgrades only. |

Holy crap, you arn't dead!(okay, I know you've been online, but good to see the editor upgraded. Now get you butt going on Nephi Ultra or the LA fanboys will rape me!!)

Treasure chest editing--unless he added that in already. Other than that I really can't think of anything.

I did find what looked like level data for SOTN, but the problem is that loading the file up into a rom corruptor takes like 5 miniutes, and and extra 3 or 4 for each search. Oh yeah, not to mention the time it takes to load the PSX file into hex workshop.

When I finish my Blaster Master hack, it will show the rom hacking community just what Jigglysaint can do.

It does sound like a good idea. It doe sound rather exclusive, but since quality is what we are after, then there does need to be some sort sorting out of all the junk.
My only concern is that the means to be approved would be strict enough that only people with projects could be approved. I am unsure how things work in pokemon or SMW, but there does need to be a mix of newcommers asking valid questions, and vetan members doing their thing. |

Well the decent spelling and grammer are what bug me since not everybody who likes to hack roms are grammer students. But I guess as long as the person can be understood without needing a magical stone in a hat of some sort, then things are okay.
What about automatic approval for well known hackers in the community? Don't you think it might be a tad insulting to have somebody like Gamemaker24 or others have to be approved? I would think anybody with an editor or really famous hack to their name wouldn't need to explain themselves in one paragraph, but thats's my own two cents. |

They will be revealed for who they are once everybody starts asking questions about the game they made an editor for.
But I suppose that's true that it would be too much of an ego boost. People hack games for fun, not solely for recognition. I guess even Jesus needed to be baptized. |

I guess you are right with that. I do like the idea of the forum, and I suppose it really isn't that much of a bother for oldbies to ask for approval. On a lighter note, this is what I hope the forum will Not have in it(the following is an e-mail corrospondance from my girlfriend):
HinTom I Cant wait to see you on Thursday Meline And Aidan Hare On Thursay october 19 You Satle cant came I Sake That are going home Tuesday or wensday I Sake it Going bee Wedsday I Cant Wati to see you Take to you soon I Am email you at 400pm Love Katie See you at 300pm On This Thursday Since I can read that, I guess reading posts made by the typing deficient really doesn't bother me that much. |

I am working on a hack for the NES game Blaster Master which will feature 8 new obtainable upgrades that range from rapid fire, to a speed booster. The levels will also be re-written to allow for optimal use of the new upgrades to explore the game.
I am also an expert data finder, and have found game data for many games so far, including: The Guardian Legend, Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons, Equinox, Secret of Evermore, Metroid Zero Mission, and minor bits of data for other games as well. I want to be able to post in the forums so I can share my knowlege with others and so I can also learn from others and offer insights and opinions into their projects. |

ZSNES needs a ram window like in FCEuxd where you can freeze and unfreeze values directly.

I thought of an idea. What if you revoked all ability to post in existing threads, while allowing topics to be made? Mods, of course, can bypass the auto thread lock and make a post to disapprove or whatnot, but others can't respond with crap.

I see you still haven't figured out the enemy data and event switches yet. It should be enemy1 pointer Long, enemy index byte, event switch, then: Enemy pointer 2 Long, enemy index 2 byte, enemy switch 2 byte, then: Enemy final Long, Enemy index final byte.
So that means there are 3 enemy pointers and indexes. The first enemy pointer changes to the second when the first switch is activated, and the second enemy pointer changes to the third when the second switch is activated. Also, the start of room 00's header pointers is at 75FAC4 |

Trying to muscle in on my territory, eh?
Good to see somebody else sees the value in rom corruption, but it does more than just make silly stuff happen. If you work fast, and know what you are searching for, you can find almost anything in a rom you've never hacked before. What's more is that you can even use a rom corruptor to delete or change certain parts of a rom you want to re-code. For example, you could wipe out an entire map and start again from scratch, but instead of going into the hex editor and replacing the bytes one by one, you can corrupt a range and then exit the rom without reverting any of the changes. |
