DO NOT POST IN OTHER PEOPLE'S TOPICS UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

This is not absolutely necessary.

Neither is this.

Nor this.

Yet another random example.

oh look another one

asdadsagfgasfjfgafjf

It's posted clearly in the rules (and still mentioned in the thread title, no less), so why is it still happening? I'm tired of sifting through this crap for important, relevant information, and I'm going to start revoking approvals if it doesn't stop. You've been warned.

I thought of an idea. What if you revoked all ability to post in existing threads, while allowing topics to be made? Mods, of course, can bypass the auto thread lock and make a post to disapprove or whatnot, but others can't respond with crap.

There is already an option for this.

Xkeeper or someone else with database access just have to set minpower=0, minpowerreply=3 and minpowerthread=0, easy as that.

The main problem with that solution is that the original poster wouldn't be able to respond to their own topic, either, which is kind of important. I don't think Xkeeper is willing to hack the board yet again just to fix this.

The easiest solution would be to, y'know, NOT post useless crap, but if people actually followed the rules, we wouldn't need this forum in the first place...

What exactly constitutes a useful post in this forum then? I mean, the rules are pretty vague. If someone comments on an applicant's grammar b/c it is, in fact, bad, I would consider that helpful b/c the person would know to immediately change their typing style. Not everybody who comes here at first seems to know that we have high standards on grammar and spelling. If they're wise, they'll shift immediately to help their case for approval.

Now, if someone flames the applicant while correcting their spelling, I'd consider that unhelpful 1. b/c it's a violation of the FAQ, and 2. it might just turn away an otherwise future contributing member from even coming here.

Is this the kind of distinction you're trying to make? B/c otherwise I dont' feel welcome to post in this forum at all lest I be banned for trying to tell someone how to improve themselves for approval or hyping a friend of mine I know is a good hacker, like Kejardon.

Perhaps a few examples..?

"Is your shift key broken?" -- Not useful.
"Some people might find your lack of proper capitalization somewhat annoying." -- Still not particularly useful, but at least not completely stupid.

"Gavin for world domination. " -- Not useful.
"I am personally familiar with Gavin's rom-hacking endeavors, and find him to be quite skilled in this field. I believe he would make an excellent addition to the locak rom-hacking community." -- Much more useful.

"Yeah but you do notice that he's only a level 7..." -- Not useful.
"" -- If you don't have anything to add, don't add anything.

"i also reading ur posts. badd gramr sux0rz here!1" -- Not useful.
"People here are grammar nazis. If you can't demonstrate that you have at least as good a grasp of the english language as the average five-year-old, you likely will not be approved." -- Well, it's the truth.

I'm not sure if I fall victim to that in this post or not (had a feeling that I might have been being referanced), due to a simple point.

What about when they ask for it? And I don't mean because of their bad grammar, I mean because of the intent of their post. Like, for example, someone posting in response to a negative that we should all get off our high arses and tell them why they can't be accepted. The guy in mentioned post didn't do that, but you could certainly tell he was pissed at us by the way he reacted. How would the rule apply in such cases?

If I had to guess, from the beginning, the only posts in the approval forum were meant to be such:
1. The person trying to be approved, their appeal and their bumps as necessary;
2. Any member of administration and their opinion on said applicant, including perhaps a denied message or approved message; or
3. A person outside of administration with prior knowledge of the applicant trying to appeal on their behalf.
Anything else is extraneous and can be stopped. Regular members coming in to a topic and saying "Sounds good to me" doesn't help out, because any mod could easily see the same as a regular user could, except regular users don't have the power to approve nor do they have to keep forums clean. This is all in my opinion, but it is how I see the forum working out the best, and keeping BMF irritant-free when approving new applicants.

You hit the nail right on the friggin' head.

I'll admit, I was in a rather nasty mood when I started this thread (obviously ), and a few of those examples I listed might not be entirely worthless...but there still needs to be a lot less crap here, and disciplinary action WILL be taken if things don't improve. I'll likely rewrite the rules to clarify exactly what is and isn't acceptable here (after a little break), but for now, Kailieann's and Dr_Death16's posts fill in the gaps nicely.
