If you provided screenshots, more people would have played it until now (although the thread still is young). I only played one level so far (I don't like the idea of invisible blocks/ledges at all - although they all were covered with coins), but I'm currently stuck in that part of this level.
I cannot proceed. Since you cannot grab throw blocks from below, I'm actually stuck - and the midway point takes you to the place again if I want the time to run out and somehow try to cross that another way.
Edit: Bad screenshot taken. It doesn't show the solid log on the right side which cannot be passed.

I got through the demo and it was pretty good playable. The hack was not too hard, but not too easy either for the first world.
A small bug: You enabled the side exit in the Switch Palace level. Although you wanted this (the message box tells that), you use several pipes to advance. However, even in a later "room" you enter (the same level), you still are able to exit.
That level was very nice to play otherwise, the time limit was okay, so there was no need to adjust it in that level.

Your used only one P-switch (at least I only found that one in the castle, maybe I didn'T search enough, though). You could add some puzzles. Other than that, your hack won't invent SMW level design fully in a new design, but for me it was pretty decent for a beginners' hack.
I also could pass in the turn block section which I couldn't before. The shaded blue throw blocks look very nice. There is a slight glitch with the turn blocks in the castle, as they "turn" with the SMB3 brick animation. However, there was no major glitch and I especially liked the castle setup.
I would put my thumbs up, but also might advise to use some secret exits in world 2 - and maybe some tricky puzzles to get them. As for me, I personally don't like invisible blocks. It's just me, you don't ever need to replace them if I tell that, but if it goes beyond the one part you used it, I would reconsider using them

Posted on 04-12-06 04:52 PM, in Fav. Harder than Final Boss Secret Boss? Link
The first time I played Illusion of Gaia, I had major problems with the boss in the bonus dungeon (taken the fact I was younger and out of herbs in this battle), but usually he is not that hard.
I would also go with Shinryuu and Omega from FFV for hardest bosses ever. Especially the second one is a hell of a beast. His "RocketPunch" is a pain in the ass, he is wall-protected and fast as hell. Still need to beat him, but I don't have a save file ready.
You have no 30 second-animation showing a huge meteor falling from the top but everything goes fast enough.

But usually he is a boss in a RPG where the difficulty level strongly varies from the characters' levels and abilities. Beating a boss in a fast-paced shooter can even require more skill, when your hands are full of sweat, while you just realized you used up your last life and continue on it.
As for Final Fantasy bosses, it is really true most of them are not that hard, but finding the tactics is the real thing. I never looked into a FAQ, but Ozma from FF9 currently seems unbeatable for me. Usually there really will be something like the ideal setup of abilities or something (I cannot reach him with weapons and no - I don't want to look into a walkthrough to spoil the fun ).

Is the proper ASPI driver installed probperly ?
If you have Nero, they got on the computer anyway if they were none.
I couldn't burn DVDs at all with any program but Nero only.

And does the BIOS recognize the DVD burner properly ?

Pros:
- The tilesets are good in general, I liked especially the cave graphics and the Dry Bones
- Those enemy generating pipes were used, and invinsible enemies with "auto-bouncing" when jumped normally on them, are a good idea as well
- The difficulty level was right

Cons:
- The already mentioned glitches, like the growing Mario which seems to buried in the ground some pixels, when he is standing and taking the mushroom
- The POW switch scenarios were a bit boring. Usually you took them close to the used-blocks barrier, activated it, then had to wait for a new established wall which were coins before
- Some more secrets might have been nice. It doesn't need to be secret exits (since this hack is SMB3-based it anyway might not fit - you cannot see if there is a secret exit or not, aside from an alternative branch). I think something like passages which grant you some extra coins - simlar to the coin heavens in the hack.
- The ghost house in the Zeldaish overworld: If you take two Eeries to the right side where the block with the vine waits, it may happen that the vine doesn't come out. I don't know if it's too many sprites at once in the screen or another error.
Well, "proceeding" is possible anyway - but I don't want to tell more since this would spoil the fun in finding the exit there

Although there are more cons than pros, the hack had some nice elements but lacks some other things. An example is the passage with the puzzle with these arrow tiles in the last castle, similar to some of SMB1's castles, it just needed some more of these (different) puzzles, maybe not going only from left to right but also maybe a level which goes Sonic-like from the top to the bottom, from right to left, changes within level its way and so on.

Hands up, BUT these spelling mistakes really must be removed, and this should be done before releasing the hack (the best way still are beta-testers, selected by the thread crerator himself).

Posted on 04-21-06 11:43 AM, in Do You use SaveStates? Link
I "savestate" quite often in some SMW Hacks. It depends on the hack's difficulty level, the distance to the next are you can save and my time. Also I always use a save state AFTER I saved legitimatelly. I can load it a lot faster. And the number of lives and the Big/Fire/Cape Mario status doesn't bother me as well, as I anyway get powerups in earlier levels before entering a harder level or one with a low number of them ...

But I don't want to spoil the fun, if this is something the save state destroys. If it concerns secrets, I use them far less than in essential situations.
Example: An uber-hard level in SMW. I put saves, say, every room. But this hidden POW-door leads to another path which is also hard. No savestates when going for the key/secret exit.
This also is important for other games as well.
Savestating in role playing games during a challenging battle ?
Never.

While the music is more silent (just fits the mood, something something "secret") and neither a catchy nor a special tune, it is good for its purpose.
The screens look pretty promising, especially that level with the dark ceiling coming down, the Sonic-style level (too bad regular levels cannot be more than two screens in height) and the gimmicks are looking promising.

I'm looking forward for your next demo, FPI, keep up the good work.

Even if it is not the proper, clear error message for damaged memory (IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), I recommend checking your RAM with memtest86, I recommend several cycles, like it could be run for some hours over night..

The entire computer can be tested with Prime95, but I have no experience with this.

Other factors might be:
- Video card
- Overheating (even if Ragnarok Online should not use that much system resources)
- Driver problems

It depends on the location and demand. I saw a used Valkyrie Profile for the PSOne for about 300 Euros on Ebay, someone I know got a new (!) VP for about twenty bucks when he was in Japan. That example is pure insane, but I know that game sells for a lot of money, at least here in Europe where it was never released.
It sure is in Japanese, but it was a fresh and sealed copy.
EDIT: Again. I wonder who will buy this for that price

I bought my Final Fantasy VII (unfortunately the German Platinum version which is translated horribly anyway) for 6 Euros in a store where I lived before (it was near the border of Berlin); recently I saw a store which sold FF7 for 30 bucks, for the same version.
The shop was situated in the center of Berlin where a lot of people live.
As for new games, I don't know. I have to learn a lot in university, so it is a long time I ever bought a new console/game ... I'm happy with my few ROMs and older stuff.

This is really a nice kind of protection, to be honest.
Aside from that, I also tried the game and it really rocks. I still need to get used to that swinging for gaining height, when carrying an item

You always can stock up on sunglasses again, the same goes with this item which doubles your speed and jumping height. Apart from that, they grant you one extra hit each ...
Luckily all levels stay open to be replayed again, thus obtaining these two neat items repeatedly

At first the hack seems very fun, it is definitively only playable for experts. This already begins with the shortened time when escaping from the Space Colony.
Ir is no square ledges as in some other incomplete Metroid hacks, however I played through Metroid and Super Metroid dozens of times.

But as seem as I'm stuck in a very early portion in the game
This image shows it. Copy and paste it, since Lycos doesn't like direkt clicking; and I don't want to spoil something by having the map open (although it only shows a tiny portion of Brinstar):

http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/Stuck.png

That grey door in the room below also never seems to open for me.

I cannot go up, since I cannot wall-jump at all. I don't know where to go and I'm slightly pissed due to the lack of a save room in this pit of doom, what it is currently. I can save-state, but if this hack was put on a cart, things might be different.

Please tell me what I actually have to do - do I even need an item to be able to do a wall-jump, like one poster mentioned some "Wall Jumping Boots" ?
And, yes, I read the readme and the thread about the changes in wall jumping, but still - it never works for me.

All together, it is very nice compared to other SM hacks, but maybe I'm just not good enough to proceed.

It indeed was a nice idea for the fake wall in order to get the Wall-Jump Boots
And I don't have any trouble with wall-jumping, as it might be the joypad; it is a new Logitech USB Precision pad, though it is one of the cheaper models. The new behaviour of this jump is interesting indeed.

You overrate custom titles by far.
Even if you are granted one (like if you had one before), it is only "bypassed". So anyone without fulfilling the requirement with one will lose it, if he or she edits it and leaves the field blank and submit the profile changes.

It is a neat addition, but if I'm in that desparate mood to need one again (I got my one back earlier, since I proved I had one), I would make a layout and maybe put some nice stuff into it or into the signature part.
This way I lost my title (hence the red user name and a mouse-over link I didn't took serious - and read the thread about it much later ), but I won't need it anyway, hehe.

As for spamming and Craziness domain, some things bothered me in the old AcmlmBoard as well, but I didn't pay too much attention and I rather replied to the threads which interested me only. And you, Silvershield, at least your name is telling something, already from the first AcmlmBoard. It simply IS selection whom to give a custom title, it is similar to selecting staff users.

A intelligent but flaming user might have less chances to get a spot as someone with same knowledge but who might not behave like he/she is somewhat better.
Since we all are human beings, this never will be changed.

Posted on 05-15-06 03:43 PM, in Skype: I am hearing myself as well as all sounds from this computer. What should be (de)activated? Link
The thread title might be not that descriptive, but I actually don't know a better title.

I installed Skype some days ago and bought a headset today. It is an ordinary model with two wires (one green and one red cable), they go into the microphone and output (?) ports.
The thing works well without major settings to be required and even the quality is good, since I have a cheap onboard chip (VIA AC 97) and headset for this.

However, the microphone records not only my voice but everything from the computer, like system sounds, winamp or if I'm on an internet page with embedded sounds and such things.
I checked the volume properties and muted all record options but the mic option. Since I have a German Windows, it might be harder if I posted an image of this.
As stated, even though it is cheap sound, the quality is very good when people talk to me.

Does this sending-only-mic-sounds thingy require an own or additional (PCI) sound card or do I have to get a more expensive sound card with one USB connector ?
Even if, I would be worried because two sound drivers parallel could cause instant blue screens of death pretty easily. I'm running a stable Windows XP SP2 copy which makes no trouble at all.

Thanks in advance for replies,

Dominik aka Surlent

Edit: Somehow I tweaked around in the settings and disabled all settings for recording (even some unused ones like Aux) and reduced their volumes down.
The sound is still there, but very silent and won't distract the people too much in the conference.
So this problem could be declared as "solved".
Skye simply rocks ...

I'm actually satisfied with my onboard sound. Since I never play newer games, it suits just fine for me for listening to Winamp and running emulators. As stated, the background noise is reduced (see the edit in my post above).

HyperHacker: I didn't know that yet - but I know it now. I even have an old sound card (Creative PCI128i) hanging around, but simply am too lazy to put it into my computer.

And another person with an actually good sound card has the same thing; I just thought, before this thread was made, that the recording between the microphone and the desktop sounds are two separate ... let's call them "channels" once.

Anyway, I tried it yesterday with running Winamp with a track from In Flames at full volume and the other people simply didn'T hear that much of this.

Thanks for replies, the "problem" is solved - and Skype simply rocks

I never was too active here in terms of posting, but I also recalled work for one reason Acmlm isn't around here too.
Of course, I heared about that longer Gunbound phase too.

He invented the board from scratch on, always seemed to be balanced betwen nice and rougher (banning morons) with reason; as well as learning quite quickly in some games. In a shorter time than me he broke the first magic barrier for a newer Tetris Attack player, the 10.000 points border in Time Attack 1P.
Also when I first entered the board, I qas quite shocked to see someone with a high five-digit number of posts, and in the vast majority of the posts even quality posts.

I think I'll stop, I don't want to make the post too brownnosy or something (it's just my opinion)

You could disable all troublesome plugin(s) one by one by going into the "Plugins"-folder and rename then to some unused/unknown extension; just make sure Winamp is closed while renaming the files.

I copied the entire "The game cannot run on this hardware" including quotation marks into Google's search field and got this:

~ I get a "The game cannot run on this hardware" message when entering Kai's mansion in Dragon Ball Z - Buu's Fury. Is there a patch to fix it?
No need for a patch, just go to the "Options" menu in VisualBoy Advance, then "Emulator" -> "Save Type" and set it to EEPROM.

This works for VBA though, which is superior to No$GBA in my point of view.

I may suck at it due to my low Time Trial scores (my maximum was around 14k before, but it varies strongly between 8k and 12k mostly) since I didn't play it in a while, but my vote clearly goes for Tetris Attack.
That damn puzzle game simply is too addicting if there's the opportunity to lose against Xkeeper, Hiryuu bash someone
