I'm going with Panel De Pon/Tetris Attack too. I get more and more near/into the 10.000s regularly, lately I scored about 15k ... that's nothing compared to Hiryuu, Xkeeper and Abused Rib, but every time I advance forward, it is great - now I slowly begin to see/understand that two minutes is really a LOT of time to score points.
I'm beginning to get angry if get below 10k - four months ago my average score was below 5k

That game simply rocks - and Puyo Puyo is great too; unlike in TA I have major problems with that "meeeooow" enemy (Poipoi ?) in Puyo Puyo Fever. Either I build up enough fever time to send him even moon puyos (what is not that often ) or he simply does this and sends me tons of stuff in his 30 seconds

I just read some posts in a forum and found a MMORPG named Xenepic.

The website is located here, but the entire game and interface is in Japanese:
http://www.hangame.co.jp/publish/xo/index.asp

Aside that, the graphics are neat, although the entire engine seems to be a direct rip off Ragnarok Online. The interface seems to be similar, only having minor changes: If you click twice on an enemy, you auto-attack an enemy until it dies - and like in other games enemies which seem to be too strong for you, are given a red name when you mouse-over them. I didn't find out something about a job level, but maybe even that is here - and you can access an avatar shop any time, by pressing the most right button in the game menu while playing.

Screenshots are here.

I got until level 5 ... I think basically it might be nice; but I don't expect too much change. On the other hand it is free ... and with trying out something it should not be too hard to find out what to do to

Note: The setup is weird. You need to download the client (more than 500 MB), then after installing it you cannot connect to a server after you got the most recent updates. Start up Internet Explorer (you will need that browser).

You need to fill out the registration form. After that, the page asks to install an ActiveX control object. Log in after this with your game ID and password, and click that huge "Enter Game" button (or named similar, didn't pay attention to it) and your client will start - now you may press "Start" and you will be able to connect to the server.

It could lack change, but since I didn't play too much until now - level 5 only - it might be get boring for some people, but on the other hand it is free, unlike RO, though it needs little work due to the Japanese language (options and other things can be found out quickly, but communicating with others ... well, I'm studying Japanese, but except some very few kanji and all the hira-/katakana I cannot read too well ).

What do you think about it ?

Just that question to you Tetris Attack masters (since I got out early), concerning Pokemon Puzzle Leagues VS. com-mode where you fight all the important character from the series (I assume - "Erika" sounds German; didn't watch Pokemon at all ):

I got through V-Hard (meaning the fourth of five difficulty levels) without continue now. The 16th enemy truly was a pain in the ass to beat his lights out - it took five minutes for me. I got down from two to zero continues with this ...

Since a longer time I'm gnawing on the S-Hard Mode, already Richie (12th enemy) punches my lights out relatively quickly since the CPU knows to garbage-chain, unlike in TA and already sends major blocks after some seconds. The CPU level goes up to 10, in PDP/TA it was only seven, and the major bugs of it, like chaining further x13, (what results in x? and is useless) seem to be cleared out.

Hiryuu and all other ones: Did you beat the S-Hard mode without continue anyway ?
I have to agree to Hiryuu on the old new board where he said, the CPU is about 10 times harder than in Panel De Pon.

I tried it and had no major problems on S-Hard in PPC

I got through it without continue, but the freshly unlocked "Intense" difficulty level is giving me nightmares ...
I also think you have little more of last respite after you touch the top.

In Panel De Pon for SNES (I mean the japanese version specifically) it seems almost instantly in V-Hard while you have more time in Tetris Attack, PPL or PPC.

PPL and PPC are way harder than PDP/TA, but offer you a slightly more time to survive if you touch the top in the harder modes.

I got out of the TA pretty quickly due to two insane enemies, but in the environment I have around me, I beat the lights out of the people pretty easily.
That game will still be my sin. I have not much time due to my study, but some short games in Panel De Pon are a must-play for me. Gotta have to get a GBA and Dr. Mario & Puzzle League later on - playing it in some very boring lectures sounds funny

Still need to figure out how to get more stable scores. I got about 15113 points recently, but have to get more scores above 10.000 more frequently or I even get something weak below that sometimes.

And I have a Lufia II cartridge with 94 hours of duration - I got through the Ancient Cave several times on it, died dozens of times (Gold Dragons ... ), but I'm the unofficial master (named by several people around me), since I also know a lot of stats in some other games (Enemies' HP and such). Maxing out the stats is even in normal mode without the 4x EXP and gold bonus ridicously easy ...
And doing more than 16000 damage points to that Egg Dragon in one hit is also funny (since the screen displays only 9999 damage points) - and a nasty bugs allows you to kill every enemy with only one hit in that game

Definitively the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.
It is a great epic fantasy story with many characters, parallel plot lines, good and very interesting narration.

I didn't read his fourth book A Feast for Crows yet, since I'll have to finish some books for universits beforehand

That demo is really great, the difficulty level is right, although there is a lack of extra lives (which can be bought only).
Another bug is the Ice Flower. If you obtain a power-up in that state (I got a leaf), the Ice Flower goes into reserve but shows the normal flower graphics.

If you use it by pressing Select afterwards, you'll be morphed to Fire Mario instead of Ice Flower Mario.
But since this is anyway only accessible using your cheat code. it's a minor bug since the secret power-ups are not accessible in both world 1 (if I didn't miss any spot).

The effect in Tactics Ogre, when a character misses its target (just when the "Miss" appears) for the SNES version (not the PSX version, though) is pretty cheap, but somehow nice.
Moving the cursor in Dr. Mario & Panel De Pon (GBA) or in Paper Mario's main and battle menu are also getting my attention. I have a flair for minimalistic sound effects.

And not to forget, if the hero in Mario 64 falls on Lava, the cry he makes somehow sounds "fun"

As far as I know, a combo drive usually is capable of burning CDs but only able to read DVDs
If possible, you could try to replace the machine (if it is not that much more expensive) if you need DVDs, but other than that there is no way getting a combo drive making work burning DVDs.

Well, I'm here, didn't notice that thread ... Preparation for a bigger 日本語 テスト tomorrow

I mostly relied on smacking with weapons, since the max amount of MP is limited to 255 and the number of items as well to 9, while MP-absorbing spells are pretty weak.

Here my list, it is not fully complete, but it should help you:

KIMEGAMI (13 MP) - heals a high amount of HP for a fair amount of MP [entire party]

TRIPLEMEGAMI (22 MP) - even stronger, but has an insane MP consumption, so this should be using only in an emergencym since it less effective in relation to its MP usage. [entire party]

LEF - a basic spell to heal some HP. Use it to cure smaller wounds, since it is more effective to cure damages away with a high-MP char than items in most cases [one character]

POWERUP (13 MP)- raises your attack power. Status spells wear off after few rounds, so they need to be recast [entire party]

AQUADEFENSE - unlike its name, this strengthens the physical defense power [entire party]

FASTALL (10 MP) - increases your ... you may guess which attribute [entire party}

SLOWALL (10 MP) - only needed, if you are on a lower level and have to defeat a faster, stronger enemy which is still faster after using FASTALL. I would prefer using FASTALL first [entire party]

LITPROTECT (19 MP) - Halves lightning damage [entire party]
FIREPROTECT (22 MP) - Halves fire damage [entire party]
LIFE (8 MP) - if you run out of Alarums, this might come in handy [one character]

KIKAMI (13 MP) - a great lightning type offensive spell [one enemy]
KAAMOMUNY (15 MP) - One main spell one chapter boss uses (I won't tell which one, since this spoils that), nice against lightning type enemies, but watch your MP [one enemy]

I beat the level 20 CPU only once, but I'm referring to the ROM. The game is out meanwhile also in Germany, but the German translation is horrible (way too straight) and the cart is relatively expensive (about 40 Euros ... since I'd need a GBA and are unemployed until March 06).

If I had a GBA I would buy it nonetheless, although I'd feel weird with taking this thingie into the bus (I'm 24. well ... ). But having the ability to move different-shaped and -colored blocks is nice, althought, as Hiryuu said it, there is little challenge. Even me beat the level 20 CPU two or three times, although it took a very long time - my longest chain also is only a x16 without garbage. Scoring about 10k is too easy.

Other than that, it is nice to play on the other side. It simply is PdP, although somehow static, but it features at least some fun. The bad thing is, that multiplayer requires a game for every GBA (if I'm not mistaken) and selling two warmed up (even if it is PdP) games for the full price - that just sucks. But Nintendo is right - as long the people even will pay this, their strategy might right.

I hope the good old "Nintendo thinks more about us gamers!!" argument is shown to all people they are not doing this, since some think they just won't earn money pretty easily - what it fact Nintendo is, like any other brand. That's nothing bad, just normal, but old games for full prices are as bad as selling something like Metroid for a lot of money, where you can get the NES cart even cheaper if found on Ebay.

As for Dr. Mario: Very poor, Nintendo.
You even didn't made changeable backgrounds for it, the music sounds really bad (PdP's music at least doesn't distract you very much - and it has a lot more options, although some of them are more like the small cherry on top of the cake), the sound effects want me to turn off everything and Dr. Mario simply seems half-done only.

I don't like Dr. Mario at all, but the NES and SNES version at least featured some nice graphics and music.

Valkyrie Profile for PS1 also is pretty neat, probably one of the best RPGs ever (at least it features a superb combo battle system). Having the powerful soundtrack from Motoi Sakuraba, a mass of playable characters while it even features some good riddles (on "hard") plus a huge bonus dungeon, these are just some of the good things from this game

I'll mention two titles not mentioned here, they are not too famous but very nice choices if you would ask me for recommendations.

- Rud(o)ra no Hihou, a game with one of the most sweet OSTs ever. It was never released outside Japan, but Gideon Zhi made a great English translation for it, also revamped the spell creation system from Katakana to Rômaji (use English or Japanese names in Rômaji to enter spells directly from the menu), so you might want to try out spells like "Cure", "Quake" or "Fast" - adding pre- and suffixes even strengthens the spell power, but also increase the MP usage (and you can only nine of each item with you - giving you more challenge than any game with 99-type-of-each-item systems), although the bosses can be challenging without the right mantras,

The graphics rock too, every single enemy and character has its own standing, spell, attacking, getting-hit animation, what is just awesome for an SNES game, plus the graphics are top.
My user name and avatar also comes from that game ...

- Valkyrie Profile
A battle system bible.

A game with great uses of good old 2D parallel backgrounds and sprites, though it is not the newest (it was released about 2000/2001 outside Japan, sadly not in Europe) but very nice game, the music KICKS ASS with a huge variety of Motoi Sakuraba's master pieces, having a lot of different characters, a unique time/story system, offering a mass of options with its combo- and turn-based battle system - and adds a huge amount of replay value.

Even today I simply fire up my *cough* emulator (anyway I don't have an NTSC PSX or even a PS2) and enjoy some few battles which make me happy after some nasty days ...
And the voice acting is supreme, too. Definitively a game to get if you like alternative RPGs, thus also featuring exaggerating damage numbers in the bonus dungeon (which is challenging as well)

I have a Maxtor harddisk as well, in total 120 GB, about 7 GB are filled with copied PSX images, since my PSX is dead (refuses to play videos and sometimes make the controller movements "stuck" until I reset the machine), few gigs with *cough* ROMs and the rest is filled with anime sent by a guy I know (20 GB of about 30 GB in total, most of them not seen yet due to lack of time).
I also keep backups from every file I download via the internet, so I still have 38 GB of free space.

And I don't plan to get a new hard drive soon since that one fits more than I ever need.

As long as there will people come with originality, even a level only hack will be good despite some advanced ROM hackers like BMF will come up with ideas like HDMA, ASM and other changes/effects. And Mario also offers the most popularity on this board.

Hacking an RPG is another thing, you need to balance out the enemy stats well, changing the plot line will be a lot harder than to use something like Lunar Magic (if you do it via hex, where a single character might mess up the entire ROM) with an included text editor.

Take it positive. This happened to "known" users on that board, so you won't expect a non-active user to having a greyed out user name but not banned (until it is a board-wide/global phase - like it happend to all staff members some time ago).

Of course, if a new-poster is greyed out immediately, usually it is someone banned regularly trying to set up another account.
And if someone is banned with reason, look at his/her custom title he/she gets then

You could check the emulators themselves. In Project64 you can remap the direction buttons to the normal digital ones on your gamepad or to the keyboard (arrow) keys, there is a setting called "deadzone". I think it adjusts how long you need to press a key to make the emulator think that you move the "stick" wider, like if you walk slowly in SM64 or Zelda OoT.
