OK, I need some role playing games to play. I have beaten every Final Fantasy except 11 (can't beat it or else they'd lose money) and XII (not out yet in U.S.) Oh, and none of the Seiken Densetsu series either, or Legaia series (Legaia was just insanely easy)

It can be for any system as long as it is actually a good game, if you recommend a game at least name the system it was on.

It's REALLY a stretch to call Riviera a dating sim. That's more of a side quest than anything... game itself would likely be classified as graphic adventure/RPG.

Doesn't Star Ocean for the SNES have a translation patch? I'm pretty sure that I saw one at Zophar's Domain once.

SNES
Mario RPG
Umm... wow. Everything else for this system was already mentioned. =P

GBA
Golden Sun
Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age
Pokemon (ok, ok, it's crap, but the idea is good)
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

PS2 (these are the good ones)
Kingdom Hearts
.Hack// parts 1-4
Xenosaga 1-3
Star Ocean: Till The End of Time
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Lord of The Rings: The Third Age (I found this one fun, but those who like to rip the movie apart due to innacuracies with the books would say otherwise)
Full Metal Alchemist: The Broken Angel (good if you're a fan of the series)
Full Metal Alchemist 2: The Crimson Elixer (ditto)
Dragon Quest VIII (BURNINATION)

Above list would take, oh, I estimate... 1.25 years to finish.

Aburrrr! =P

I have to recomend Rivera.

Other than those, try any NIS game. Disgaea = Pure <3.

Oh, I'd recommend Riviera in a heartbeat too. One of the best RPG's released this year on any system, and it has a killer soundtrack to boot.

And Pokemon = bad? The franchise was run into the ground but the classic Pokemon RPG's are still pretty good, if that's your cup of tea.

More than likely a stretch. Made me laugh nonetheless though because it could easily be construed as such. Decent RPG with a nice concept for replayability.

AGTP usually doesn't have a bad time getting some decent trans's for RPGs. Though it's a borderline action/RPG (ala Metroid), I'd definitely say get Cave Story. Yea, it's PC based but it doesn't really tax a system that much, if that's your concern.

If you're going for flat out RPG that no one will probably recommend in this thread but is good anyways, I'd get Madou Monogatari (SFC) even though it's a bit of a biased opinion and it's a bit short I still had fun dropping 15 or so hours on it.

Aside from things you'll find in ROMs, I can only add getting Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, and La Pucelle: Tactics on the PS2. Those are probably my heavy 3 period.

Thanks everyone, I will be sure to acquire all of those except Disgaea very soon. Disgaea is just a pain to find at a decent price.

Valkyrie Profile for PS1 also is pretty neat, probably one of the best RPGs ever (at least it features a superb combo battle system). Having the powerful soundtrack from Motoi Sakuraba, a mass of playable characters while it even features some good riddles (on "hard") plus a huge bonus dungeon, these are just some of the good things from this game

Last time I checked, it was in-progress. And also pretty bad.
In fact, the majority of DeJap's translations go downhill qualitywise at some point in the game. They're like fansubbers who just want to get as many releases done as fast as possible, so they don't bother to actually pay attention to the details of what's going on, leave some things out completely, and throw in stupid jokes because they can.

I found it for 30 bucks about a year ago.

Then again, you'd be hard pressed to find a copy period.

-Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (DS)
-Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (GCN)
-Tales of Symphonia (GCN)

I'd recommend Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and Superstar Saga, but they've already been mentioned.

Noone has mentioned any Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior for ye americans) besides VIII and Im pretty sure thats some form of blasphemy against some mighty god somewhere. Various platforms (notably NES and SNES)

I know its been said, but I just have to mention my favouritest rpg ever, which would be Estopolis 2/Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals. Lufia is good as well, but 2 is where the love is at. SNES

NOONE HAS MENTIONED GRANDIA OR GRANDIA 2. FOR THIS YOU WILL ALL DIE.

*cough ahem cough* Excuse me. Saturn/Playstation for 1, Dreamcast/PS2 for 2. I have been advised to stay away from Xtreme, though I cant confirm as I havent gotten around to ignoring this advice yet. Grandia 3 is on the way. Noriyuki Iwadare LOVE!

Let us not forget those bastions of Sega rpg goodness, Shining Force and Phantasy Star. The series has spread over a variety of platforms, but both have their roots in the genesis.

Noone has mentioned Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I have lost all trust and respect I had for you people. A stellar action RPG that no gamer with a playstation or PS2 should be without for very long. An incredible game that I still play. To a lesser extent, the GBA castlevanias (circle of the moon, aria of sorrow, et all) are also decent, and Im told that the new DS castlevania is as near to SotN as can be expected. I dont care if you dont like any other castlevania ever, do everything you can to play SotN. Playstation and Saturn.

For something a little more recent...basically anything by Atlus or Nippon Ichi. This includes newer games like Phantom Brave and Atelier Iris, and older titles like thousand arms and Rhapsody. Did you know that, in japan, La Pucelle actually came BEFORE Disgaea?

Speaking of Arms....I've always been a fan of the Wild Arms series. Sony.

Is that enough? Should I keep going...?

*edit*

If youre into japanese stuff, I can also reccomend madou monogatari (kindergarden story.) Super Famicom, but theres a patch out there, and the game drips of cute sillyness. Its an RPG spinoff of some other series, but Im not sure which one (puyo?)

Theres also an SNES ranma 1/2 rpg that has patches for it (manga and anime, whats the difference? o.O) but it kept crashing my emulator and I dont know why. But that was like a year ago, and I was on an old version of ZSNES.

Theres also a Tenchi Muyo! rpg that runs on a grid system, though it doesnt really play anything like most tactics rpgs. Give it a whirl, its fun to toy with.

True, and I love Shampoo, but she doesnt really have a catchphrase that I like so much....I'd sing you the menu for the Nekohanten, but I think I've taken this thread for a long enough joyride. Better put it back before I get caught by the coppers for grand theft topic ^^0

I really don't consider Symphony of the Night an RPG per se but it will always be in my collection, they will have to pry that game from my cold dead hands.
