Ok here's the thing. I want to play a lot of these SMW hacks, but every time I try to patch the friggin ROM I get a black screen. Someone told me I needed to add a header to the rom by putting 512 0's in it using a hex editor. So I counted out 512 0's exactly and the thing still wouldn't work. So I tried SnesTool... and that didn't work either. Can anyone send me a ROM or a patch with the header because it not working is getting slightly annoying.

You have to insert the 512 bytes. (NOT overwriting the old ones)

Also, an IPS patch wouldn't work, since it would contain (next to) all code and data in the ROM, making it illegal.

yea I did that... I made sure I didn't edit over the old data because I clicked add and it didnt write over the old bytes. basically I put in 512 zeros... each column in my hex editor had a row of 10 with each "section" broken up into 4's... so I counted to 512 but the rom wouldn't work after.

The hex editor displays addresses in (guess what) hex. If you're going by that, just add zeros until what used to be the first byte is at address 200. 0x200 = 512.
