edit: Quite a bit of posts had to go. Hope no one's offended, but they were completely out of context without sm64mod.

Just why didn't you do that with the other treand?

It was shit long before I was a mod, and there was too much for me to do it alone. It was mostly ignored by other mods until a few hundred posts were useless garbage.

I just learned of all these great hacks coming out. Wonderful. I have all the doc's and what-not and I will be Starting out with some regular color mods. Lets hope I can, Im a complete nub when it comes to coding. Look forward to adding stuff. BTW that Super Wario 64 hack doesn't work for me. It just starts like the normal game, not a single change.....I don't suppose anybody wants to rapidshare their hacked rom so I can haphazardly stumble upon it and download it...I'm gonna go ahead and re-join the IPS and the Rom and try again. Im usin' Snestool, which may be the problem. wtvr. expect a color hack as soon as i read up some more. one more thing, are these regular hex values for the colors??? such as 000000=black? or do these roms got different lines all together?

Just a guess, but maybe your rom has a different byte order. I'm no elitist in N64 hacking, but that may be the problem.

Use Lunar IPS (get it from this site, or Zophar's Domain)

Most polygon faces rather have two colors, which fade from one color to the other on a single or several polygon faces. They are in RGB format that they have a value from 00-FF for red, 00-FF for green, etc., but I'm not sure exactly what order the color definitions appear in RAM or ROM.

If it's rgb, that means it's red/green/blue with 256 different pixel value possiblilities. Or in other words- 256 possible red, 256 possible green, and 256 possible blue.

If red green and blue equal the same number, the pixel's color is black and white.

If I'm going off topic... I'm sorry.

Yeah, just make sure you're not planning to add objects or edit polygons!! 'Cause that's not possible in the first version. When is the editor coming anyway?? VL said it will be released this month but I doubt that.

Maybe in a updated version we will be able to add our own things..(if possible)

Like our own MP3s or createing an obj bad guy or something. But This might take lots and lots of codeing so there would be less of a chance of that ever happening.

SM64 doesn't use MP3, it uses a form of MIDI. The N64 is certainly powerful enough for MP3 (some Rare games use it), maybe not at a high bitrate but that'd be wasted on the rather weak sound hardware anyway. However, the way games like Mario 64 waste CPU power I'd worry that even if someone totally re-wrote the sound system to use MP3s, it'd be too slow running alongside the game itself.

It'd be interesting nonetheless to try to hack MP3 support into an N64 game, but don't count on seeing it in an SM64 editor any time soon. Also, possible licensing issues arise... I'd suggest OGG or FLAC instead, but OGG takes even more CPU power to decode and FLAC, being lossless, makes huge files.

I see, I always thought that N64 used Mp3s as there music for all of there games.

It's possible to rip the instrument samples from some N64 games with "Sound Bank Ripper". Many N64 games got very good instrumentsamples like SM64, Banjo-Kazooie and
Silicon Valley, especially silicon valley!! It got some very nice hammond organ sounds. Another game with very nice instrument samples is Diddy Kong Racing but it's not possible
to rip its samples with any software yet.

Oooh! Oooh! Link Please! I could really use those with my midi making. I wonder where VL tone is. If he's anywhere, I hope h's on vacation, he deserves it.

It's funny how much you guys suck up to VL-Tone. An editor is hard work, sure, but it won't kill you :/ It's no more demanding than any other software creation. (Minus the reverse engineering, ofcourse, but all of that is almost (already?) finished ;P)

I agree. Vl-tone should not be treated like a god, that would only spoil him (and perhaps let him have ideas about putting a price on the editor). He should be respected as an intellegent and hard working Director/Macromedia programmer, and a proffessional sm64 reverse engineerer. Nothing more.
