Originally posted by tahu363 Well, i work with 3d animated meshes alot... Perhapse they might do it differantly here, but, the chomp's biting should be no more then a 3d animation in an index for that model... Meaning whatever animation it's playing in that anim index, the bowser whould play it's anim equal to that index in it's own index... Wheather it's just stomp, his inhale, exhale, running... depending where the animations are associated in that object's index... now... if they're usind a type of boning, which is common, it could either be that way, or instead of anim indexing within that model, it's attempting to move these 'bones' in the chomps fasion... So if that were the case, you'd be on the right track... But the animation could look even more garbled then him folding up on himself, seing as it could choose any one of the bones acording to how they are numbered whithin the object. An example... lets say that ol' Won won had only two bones to use for his bite... say they're numbered "one" and "two" (to give it more simplicity). whatever bones in Bowser, even if he had an entire "skeleton", represent the "one" and "two" whould use the Chomp's animation attempt... if these bones are on differant areas , and not on the same "hinge" point, then it could look even worse, resulting in some of his libs even being set incorrectly during, and outside of animation... Now since everything seems to be "rigid jointed" (meaning made of segmented "fixed" object, no deformation as later N64 games seemed to use) in Super Mario 64, i guess it could probably show limbs missing, but it could actually display his entire model... Depending on how it's done here i guess... The star-headded chomp... the star probably uses some global variable for rotation, or maybe even it's own variable to work with global coordinates for rotation... So it'd have no bones... it might just bypass the anim for a spinning star (constant or on anim only), or a fixed position (constant, or facing Mario)... But like you say... Bowser's model couldn't even be loaded here... If the anim system is differant here, or otheres know more then me, feel free to correct me! (^o^)... So... Um... Yeah! Sorry for a long post again (^,^) |

Should I update the thread table to allow more than 63553 views? Or should I just leave it, seeing as many views have already been lost?

It's only a few buttons, and it's insurance if it happens again.
Besides, I'm sure there's another thread somewhere with more views. |

Or not. These two threads (this and GenScreens) are over double everything else.
Done. |

... It never ends. Toad's Tool 64 CANNOT edit any polygons WHATSOEVER. Only the level itself can be rearranged. If you must know more, please check out VL's updates. Just go to VL-Tones profile and click at the bottom of the page "Show Posts By User". If you feel like you still want to know more, read the whole thread.

Well... sorry about the scroll-bar rant. I realize it was a stupid rant and if you add 1+1 you can understand why I didn't feel like posting on this thread in the last few days.
From what I've learned, Beta is a stage where all features are implemented and only bug-fixing is left. I'm currently in the Alpha stage for this editor, which means that some features are still missing. tahu363 please learn to be patient in life. You should know that the video was created with the older version that was since rewritten almost from scratch into the current development version. This older version was hard coded for the older ROM extender format and won't ever be released. The new one is much more flexible regarding the ROM format, and many other things. The current version couldn't be released. It would generate errors too often and you'd have to restart it each time. To me it's useable because in the development environment, errors like this just stop the playback, and I can quickly restart where I was without having to reload everything. I'm having a week vacation from my job starting today, and intend to stay here. I'll have much more time and motivation to work on the editor. It's possible that by the end of the week, I'll be close to release at least a demo with no save function. But it's also possible that it will be later. I'm not teasing anyone, I just don't know and don't want to be tied to a release date for now. Goomba Fondue: Bravo! you basically nailed it. (tahu363 brought a good point but then went on a crazy rant... ) The behavior code contains pointers to an animation index in a format I don't know much about yet. The meshes pointers for each body parts are stored it what I call the "geometry layout data" for a particular 3d sprite. But what defines the mesh numbers used by the animation data is not so obvious. The meshes are arranged in a hierarchy which I think is a BSP tree. For now, 3d sprites with bone animation will be a weak point in this editor, as they wont display correctly. Fortunately, the level and platform meshes are not animated. I must also warn that the editor might have some z-sorting issues in some situations. I'm trying to get around that bug, but it's a Shockwave 3d issue. I'm thinking about renaming the editor "DoesntEditPolygons 64 1.0b" (edited by VL-Tone on 07-31-06 02:28 AM) |

Quick terminology business... Sprites are rasterized images. Static. Pre-created. 3D objects are called Models when they're made out of polygons. When you have a 3D sprite, it has to be made out of voxels.

Oh really? I create 2d billboards in my games all the time out of "3d" triangles, not voxels. Voxels are cyllindrical, not 2dimentional. Unless you have a tool like sculptor or something, I think that making a 3d game with voxels is near impossible. |
