This show was the shit. I used to get up at 6 am just to watch this. It was compelling, and the plots were fairly complex, showing death and loss during a wartime. Great show.

It sounds like a return of the manifest destiny ideal from the late 1800s. We do a thing because we CAN do a thing, and because we CAN do a thing, its our inherant right and ability, so we should not feel guilty about it.
What a crock of shit. |

too young to be a soldier? Lets look at it. You have to be 16 to drive a car. 18 to vote or smoke cigarettes. 21 to drink. 18 to legally shoot and kill someone as a soldier.
And at the ripe old age of 18, what reason do you have to defend our nation? How many children does the average 18 year old have to defend? How many leave wives and homes behind to go to war? How many actually understand our judicial process, or have served un a jury? How many can quote sections of the constitution from memory, or can defend articles of it in an intellectual conversation? What does america mean to these people? What does freedom mean to them? Are they mature enough to know what they are defending beyond cable tv and mcdonalds? The army wants 18 -21 year old men, cause they are supposedly very fit and can be molded easily into ilitary doctrine. But are they too easily molded? As in vietnam, what happens when these kids come home, and all they know is war and regimentation. How will they fit into society when their chief occupation for several years was living in mass groups of men, dressing in body armor and firing high velocity rifles at sand colored blurs that might also be people. People say we are defending our freedom. Freedom to do, what? In america your free to make money, buy and sell land, and to starve in the streets. To be kidnapped, or raped, even murdered. To file for bankruptcy and to abuse your wife and kids. Or your husband. Most of these kids got into the military to pay for school, or something similar. Now, they feel obligated, because of MONEY, to fight in a foreign land. I'm sure that some or even most would proudly answer that they serve their country, and wouldn't have it any other way. And for them, its true, cause its all they have ever known. When a 35 year old man joins the army to serve, he does so with a gravity that far outweighs the 18 year olds. the older man leaves behind his job, his family, his obligations to society if he serves in a social capacity (preacher, teacher, etc). He also chooses to serve with the knowledge that he joins up so that those 18 year olds can build a life like his, or even better. So that his children can grow up and never hae to fight another war. Soldiers should live a life, before being asked to take someone elses. No one should ever ENJOY being a soldier. |

So many good ideas here. Basic infrastructure build up, a low tax trade market and stable political environments are the keys to long lasting development and economic growth, and im damn near quoting my college economics book here. Poorer nations need basic utilities (electricity, water, food and information), along with developing trade to bring in loose funds. Stable politics invited people to set down and build lasting comunities and or businesses and for foriegn investors to be interested in local oportunities (Shifts in the tax structure or whatever).
The middle east has long been plagued by fratracidal feuding of religous and racial sects; the shiites against the sunis, the arabs against the isrealites against the palastinians, etc. That, and lets not forget foilks, that THEY ALL LIVE IN THE FRIGGIN DESERT! Not a big help to them....... |

The man was not so much exercising his ability of free speach, as he was trying to alter the peoples belief in historical facts. And due to the sheer magnitude of the Holocaust and the mentallity that created it, the fine nation of austraila saw fit to institute a law making it illegal to infere or state that the Holocaust never happened, lest it somehow happen again.
I mean, look at why they did it. It was ignorance, racism fear and hatred that allowed the Holocaust to happen. Making it illegal to say otherwise in effect prevents the forming of the mental states that precipitated the Holocaust, or at leat prevents it on a large enough scale to allow another such atrocity to happen. Scary shit man..... |

Man oh man, i Work with a hardcore Repub, and the guy is too much.
He is racist, sexist and hates people that have less money. Now I know that all republicans are not like him, but the ones I see on tv all the time just don't seem any better. Its always religion this or morality that. Protecting freedom by limiting and violating it. The Patriot act? What a friggin joke. Any true patriot would fight for their freedoms and liberties, even from our own government. I mean, look at this new abortion shite going on. Haven't we been there already? Can someone please tell these guys to stop shoving a bible up my ass and tapping my phone? |

I heard about this while i was wandering about. Apparently, some people went nuts, and converted FF ten COMPLETELY to an NES rom using the FF2 NES rom as a base. How, I don't know, but I am dying to find it and try the rom out.
Anyone know where it is, cause all the article links were dead ends. |

Gundam X was my favorite. I started with Wing, watched 08th MS team, cought 80 and 83, then War in the pocket. X was the one that spoke most to me about the horrors of war, and how it is vain foolishness. ALthough, 08th MS team was a close second. That one was pretty close to vietnam with giant robots.

Well, the enitre Comic series was written in response by the author against the ultra conservative Thatcher administration in london in the late 80's early 90's. Several high end government offices and poeple were quoted as saying they wished to erradicate homosexuality. The author feared that it would indeed be a slippery slope, and his "who would they come after next" reasoning was well justified.
He also exp Such is life. |

I'm with the guy from sweden. America is truly fucked up with our culture values. A little sex, and we totaly freak out. But gratutous gory violence on TV is A-ok. Head shots, nut kicks, shotgun blasts at lunchtime. Man, are we sick or what? Terminator 2, house of a thousand corpses, texas chainsaw massacre. But show a kid a high school vodeo with an actual male penis in it, and we gotta call teh govenor. LOL.

Whoa. and I mean, wow shitty. The woman was about to give birth, and her car wouldnt stop at a checkpoint, so the troops opened fire on it. There is an investigation ongoing about whether it was a "good" shoot, or if the troops did'nt give proper warning to slow down and stop.
My first thought was simply: what a damn situation for the troopers. I mean, they are conditioned to kill, to protect their fellow soldiers and tehy nearly atuomatically react to anything that might be a percieved threat. I mean, look at it: speeding car, a history of terrorism and roadside bombs. Damn. I'm not sure what I would have done, but for right now I feel bad for both the women and the troops. Something that could have been an accident, and killing a pregnant woman and her baby. It makes me wonder what ew are fighting for over there. |
