I know this series has been out for a while now, but I haven't previously had a chance to watch it. It's been airing with English dubbing on SBS here, but the dubbing annoyed me, so now I'm watchng a downloaded version with soft-subs.

I'm very much enjoying this series. I know it doesn't fit in (at all) with the canon of the movies; but I think it's supposed to be alternate-reality anyways. It's very enjoyable to see Section 9 acting as a 'police force' of sorts, and investigating things. The story with the Laughing Man is very interesting as well.

I haven't seen it all yet (up to ep. 13) but I'm very much enjoying it.

Anybody else like this series? I hear there's a second one too...

Oh, and I love the Tachikomas. For a mecha, they are very cute!

I was a fan of the show.

Until I realize how incredibly boring it got for me.

Not saying it is a bad show, but simply not one that holds my interest. I enjoyed the movie though, simply not this series.

And those mecha's.

They annoy me.

There is too, the first two DVD's are out already and apparently there is a movie, like the special edition one for the first series, I think it's called Innocence.

I love Ghost in the Shell, yes the dubbing can get annoying, but overall I think they did ok. Of course it airs too late for me on SBS, as I have work the next day. My friend lent me the first few episodes, so I've only seen a couple, but from what I've seen it's a great anime. I'm starting to get the series on DVD, I have the first three discs and the movie.

And I do agree, the Tachikomas are so adorable

I'm a fan of the Standalone Complex series, even though I've seen the movies first (thank you Encore Action!). While the story seems a bit more detective-like now, it does a good job of keeping my interest. And I happened to see a box set of Second Gig (aka season 2) at the local Borders for only $40, so it wouldn't be to expensive to buy. Mind you, I didn't buy it. I got the End of Evangelion box set instead.

Tachikomas are Tachikomas. There's no way around them, every anime has one, good or bad. May I remind you of each and every stupid floating mechanical AI-esque thing that shows up in each of the Gundam series? =/

See, I find the Tachikoma to be pretty interesting. I guess I just find their childlike curiosity and such to be kinda cute. I like the little Tachikoma Days mini-episode at the end too.

I haven't yet seen Ghost in the Shell: Innocence however, that's a sequel to the movie anyways, and so I don't think it's relevant to the timeline of Standalone Complex is it? AFAIK, Standalone Complex is an alternate-universe, seperate from the events in the first and second movies (there is no Puppet Master, for example).

One thing I find interesting is that this series certainly has more humor to it -- which is apparently closer to the original manga anyways. The original manga isn't as serious as the movies would have you think...

Since I don't know much about the series, except from things I've gotten from the few episodes I've watched, I didn't know the movie(s) wasn't related to the series.. which kind of makes sense now. I just thought that the movie was first then after a few years I guess they continued with Standalone Complex and the characters careers moved to more indepth things.

I'm interested in seeing the new movie, Innocence. The blurb sounds really good.

I love the voice acting for the Tachikoma and them mini episodes are so fun to watch.

Well, having seen the first movie, the events of Standalone Complex HAVE to exist in a different universe. The date of the series is set later than that of the movie; yet if the events of the movie occurred in the SAC universe, the Major wouldn't be... the Major...

No. Those are in the movies and I think the manga too. They're completely different mecha.

The Tachikoma are in the series

I think they're incredibly boring, ugh. There are some good, interesting episodes though. They refer back to the same thing to much though, like they can somehow apply absolutely everything to the "Laughing Man".

Its called a story arc. If you don't like it, then only watch the eps labelled "Stand Alone Episode". If its labelled "Complex Episode", its somehow tied to the "Laughing Man".

I watched it on Adult Swim, I didn't have that option. It still isn't an excuse for reminding people constantly that it relates to the "Laughing Man" somehow.

I really liked this series. I've seen all of the first and second seasons, along with both of the movies. (I've even made an AMV for it, and I'm currently working on my second one right now).

Although it's not the type of anime that I can watch when I'm tired, or have it playing in the background.

Out of all of them though, I liked Innocence the best (which is a sequel to the first movie) because it was the most...poetic in a way. Well, that and absolutely gorgeous. Me and Sean went to go see it when it was in theaters, and it's by far the most beautiful anime I've ever seen.

Agreed. I especially love the episode where they wonder between themselves if they could link up to someone that is meditating and then download enlightenment.

I really should watch the movies.

I watched Innocence a while ago, and after I watched it I was more confused when I started.

It was decent, in a mind-screwing sort of way.

I need to get around to watching Standalone Complex, I've got like 4 episodes sitting on my HD.

I love GITS. Stand Alone Complex was a good series to watch, with good animation, plotlines and action scenes. Samurai Champloo is now on in its timeslot though.

I noticed, but Samurai Champloo is also a good series I enjoyed it a lot -- havent' watched it on SBS though (I can't stand dubbed anime; the bad acting really gets to me) I'm actually pleasantly surprised by SBS's decision to air it.

I actually hadn't heard of Samurai Champloo until SBS decided to air it. The themes a bit wierd (Hip-hop ancient Japan), but the fight scenes are well done and the characters are cool.

Yeah, it's by the same guy who did Cowboy Bebop (which was Blues/Jazz and Science Fiction). The theme is very interesting, but I thought it worked and made for some very funny moments
