I recently finished created a ROM hack for Super Mario Bros. for the NES. I would really like it to get some exposure to the public, so I'm introducing it to you.

Changes:
- All levels (1-1 through 4-4) have been completely changed.
- Graphics changed to look cooler
- Title screen is different
- Font now has a shadow effect.
- It's like you're playing a sequel to SMB!

If you are interested in giving it a try, please follow the link below. I would also really appreciate feedback.

To Frank15:

Yeah, I used the SMB2j font. I'm not nearly artistic enough to redesign all of the sprites myself, plus I don't think I would ever have the patients.

The Toad sprite is from the SMB2 character select screen.

The reason why I only changed the first four worlds is because I took _a lot_ of objects from the last four worlds and put them into the first four worlds. So I poured all of the ROMs space into the first four worlds. I reckon I could have done up to world 6. Possibly in the next release, if there ever will be one.

World 4-4 is unchanged because I am a new rom hacker and I didn't feel like messing with the castle looping data. I tried messing with it, but it confused me greatly. So I got lazy and left it the same.

If you think the levels are bland, then that is your opinion. I think they are fine and they are staying the way I have made them.

Thanks for the advice and the feedback. I really appreciate what you have to say, weather it be good or bad.

To Heian-794:
No. It's the SMB2j font.

...Googie?! I've been to your ROM hacking website before! Actually, I was there earlier today, but I was there like a week ago, too!

When are you going to release a patch of your Earthbound Zero hack? I am interested in this because I am working on a hack for that game also, and I am quite curious to see yours so I can compare it to mine

I've been working on mine for four days now. If you want to see what mine is like so far, follow the link below for the ips patch.

I like the frame at the bottom of the page. It looks cool. And what format would you rather have the screenshots in if you don't like JPG?

Oh, yeah...sorry Xkeeper for not answering you about having my hack reviewed, but I just submitted it to the TekHack messageboard.

Ok, I am doing a text and graphics hack for the NES game "Earthbound Zero", but I am having trouble hacking the text. All of the text in this game is stored in the same part of the ROM, and each text set is divided by two [ARR] tags. See the picture below to see what I'm talking about.

This question is hard to explain, so bear with me.

I am doing a text and graphic hack for the NES game "Earthbound Zero", but I am having a problem hacking the text. You see, all of the text in the entire game is stored in the same place in the ROM. Each text set is divided up in between two [DIA] tags. View the picture below to see what I'm talking about.

Do you see the part on the right where it says "You remembered the tune"? Well, I want it to say "Mario remembered the tune", but if I do that, I will have to expand the amount of characters (by two) in between the two [DIA] tags. Is there any way to do this without taking away the amount of characters from other strings of text?

NOTE: This is just one example out of hundreds of places where I need to expand the amount of characters. Also, you should know that there is plenty of free space immediately after the text, so you don't have to worry about running out of space.

Any help that you are willing to give will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry, I accidentily created two threads about the same topic. I explained my problem better in the other thread, find it here.

(If it's possible to delete this thread, please tell me how (or do it for me if you are an administrator)).

Acmlm, that post was pretty wild. I didn't really understand that at all.

Actually, that's not completely true. I understand that you are telling me to put the text in the free space I have. I have put the words "Mario remembered the tune" in free space, but how do I find change the pointers? Any help is good, and don't confuse me too much like Acmlm just did. (I'm sure it's something very simple, I just don't know how).

Thanks

I'm using this program to edit my Mario rom right now, but I can't figure out how to save the ROM data. All of the prompt boxes are all question marks, and I really don't know what's going on. So yeah...what do I have to press to save the ROM?

Okay, I am still utterly confused. Is there some kind of tutorial out there about pointers? If so, could you be a doll and direct me to it?

Thanks,
Nick

Posted on 07-17-05 12:15 PM, in How to put NES ROMs onto NES carts? Any ideas? Link
I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while now, but I can't find very much useful information on the internet, so can anybody answer this question?

How do you put NES ROMs onto actual cartridges?

I know it's possible, because I've heard about it on several websites, and I recently discovered this website (http://www.nesreproductions.com/), which is where a guy charges money for a service to do this.

I do not want to know how to do this for illegal purposes, I am really very curious, and I'd also like to put a ROM hack of mine onto a cart so I can play my own game with an actual NES console.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Has anybody ever done this before, or tried to do this before?

What kind of hardware do you use?

Posted on 08-16-05 09:27 AM, in How do you port FDS games to .nes files? Link
I know SMB2(J) has been ported to a .nes file, because the author of NESticle did it. But there is another FDS game I want to port to a .nes file, so that I can transfer it onto a cartridge and play it on my NES. The game I want to do this with is called Ai Senshi Nicol, which is one of the greatest games you've never played.

So basically: what must be done to port a .fds ROM to a .nes ROM?

I have moderate ROM hacking knowledge, I'm really not that great, but I'm not completely ignorant. I'm sure some degree of ROM hacking will be required to do this. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
