Your CPU is on it's way out--that is what happened to mine after having the same stuff happen with my computer. My Athlon 1800 died about three weeks ago. Because I had it for only two years, the three year limited warranty was still valid. So, I called up AMD and they handled the replacement of my CPU from there. So, check to see if your CPU is still under warranty. If so, I suggest you take advantage of it. My Athlon 1800 was upgraded to a Athlon 2200.

Oh yeah, if you want to force turn off a computer without cutting power to the power supply, hold the power-on button for several seconds.

For me, it was a CPU thing since I got my new CPU and it put it in and my computer is back again So yeah, maybe your CPU is now out of date and you can upgrade to a new one

The BIOS is illegal if and only if the BIOS you have obtained over the internet does not match the version of playstation you have physically.

EDIT: therefore, to get the BIOS you have to pull it off your own PSX

aiya...that is how I got mine, it isn't illegal if you pull it off yourself from the PSX you have physically.

Posted on 01-18-05 10:30 PM, in Staff Re-organization '05 - Changes to come. Link
My two yen

the number of local mods seems okay although some forums do not need more than 1; including mine--although I wouldn't mind moving to the programming forum but that is for the committee to decide. Anyways, full mods and admins should be spread out such that there isn't a concentration of them in one time slot (although I haven't looked at where all the staff lives) Yes the board is predominantly -5 GMT so that numbers are skewed right there but if we do have staff reorganization I think that should be taken into account.

Anyways, I'm indifferent on board reorganization. Whatever happens, happens. I've never been prescence here, which probably will lead to my dismissal--but whatever. The same thing can be said the other way, if you are a prescence here doesn't mean you deserve to be staff.

The Patriots are to the Colts as the Packers are to the 49ers

Anyways, I was surprised to see the score 20 to 3 in the middle of the 4th. Even when facing a depleted secondary, the Colts (or Manning) couldn't do much. I wonder if last year's Colts would have done better versus this year's Patriots. Oh well, Patriots and Pittsburgh, maybe second time is a charm for the Patriots, plus this time they have Dillion (who they were missing the last time they played)

well if you didn't know, your false outside the function error is because false is a C++ keyword, not a C keyword. However, one of the C headers #define BOOL, TRUE, and FALSE so you can use it.

Well *var++ and (*var)++ are two different things because of the order of precedence in C. So, when you are unsure what is going to happen first, just use parenthesis to ensure what you want to happen is going to happen.

Posted on 01-20-05 05:31 AM, in Object Oriented Programming Link
Well, it all depends on preference on what I find easiest. I'm a Java programmer--so OOP is the only way to go. However, when I program in C, which isn't an OOP by nature, I write C as if it was naturally OO (to a certain extent). I can write procedurally but if things can be modeled, then it is OO for me.

But anyways, just to let you know. I've programmed OOP in C++ and it is stupid the way things are laid out. Java makes it a lot easier (or the syntax is a lot more straightforward)

Hey, it is possible to make a boot screen with more than 16 colors I thought windows XP limited all boot screens to 16 colors. Or have I missed some development?

Posted on 01-20-05 07:50 PM, in How often do you backup your personal files? Link
I'm not that diligent as you are. However, large media files I do backup since it is almost impossible for me to find them again if I fail to lose them. I've never had an HD fail on me and because I seperate the OS from the rest of the computer, losing the operating system doesn't hurt me that much either.

My version of firefox doesn't have an option that allows you to disable it. I would think the makers would put one in but they don't. Maybe you can suggest that as something they should do or try the latest version.
