Fist off I'd like to say, summer has started so I can start teh rom hacking again. And now for a question (probably a stupid one):
Say I want to have a power-up other than the star man to have the star man's jump, is that going to be a simple switch of a few bytes or is it going to be more involved? Reguardless of what I need to do, do you know where the data is to change it for say, Racoon Mario?
If I can find it, I might start a hack for Super Mario 3...

I can say this much (and I don't mean it to keep you from doing it) Hacking anything via hex in SMB1 is not really fun. Sometimes you can get awesome results, sometimes you will get very BAD results.

Does anyone know where the data for the text blinking on Castlevania's title screen is? I had to use the text tiles for some graphics, and now it looks all glitchy when you press start.

My newest project is a Castlevania hack. The working title is Big Budget Castlevania Remake. I know I'm gonna get some gruff becaue there is already a couple of hacks that are remakes of CV1, but I don't care lol It's another chance to show off my Graphic... heh...

The Simon sprite is supposed to look like the newer design for Simon Belmont (The zombies were made from classic Simon lol)

For me it was $1CDB9, beat me why though... unless this is a really old rom I picked up on Vimm's Lair or something, I know how he likes to have "ownership" over his roms via putting an extra line of hex in...

Decent, I'm gettin' props from the Impala!

I'd say my favorites so far are the SMW+ series, and Mario Adventure (I mean that has to go on here by default pretty much lol)

Not to be vain or anything but if I finish Big Budget Castlevania Remake, it would be on my list too... I just kinda impressed myself with the graphics so far *shrugs*

It's cool, I still found it. It's a relief that I don't have a Vimmed version of the ROM though lol I'm working on finding out the timer for the blinking now so there isn't the slight pause when you press start on the title screen.

I'm going to change the level layouts, don't worry lol I just found that it's easier to edit Castlevania's graphics first, and then worry about the levels. The game, while similar is going to have new level layouts and such. I want to keep each area the same as far as what part of the castle it takes place in though. I want it to be like a re-make of Castlevania, kind of like what Castlevania Chronicles was (Hence the red haired Simon Belmont)

Yeah... it's really the best I could do with the limited amount of space for backgrounds, the new colors make it blend in a little more though.

If anyone played Kamikaze's AMAZING hack Super Mario Bros. XXXX you would notice the use of killer spiked floors. I would really like to use those in my next hack, but I don't know how to make them. Anyone have any idea? I'm pretty sure I could do it if I got pused in the right direction.

You know he has a section about spikes on that site... but as you said it's in Japanese... dangit... If anyone here is any good at ASM I'm looking for people to look to see if they can find what he changed to make the tiles hurt you. I'll be looking too, I just would like a pair of experienced eyes to look too.

I'm going back to my roots and hacking SMB1. Why you may ask? because I haven't released a hack in like a year so I decided to start hacking something really easy and fun! The idea behind the game is an odd one...
In the game you play as me, and Santa didn't give you your freakin' presents. It's up to you to storm his tropical hideout and get your freakin' presents! Now on with the screenies!





Ah... good ol' Camels make me feel a lot better.

It's probably from the clouds. I had the same problem with mine where when I made it any parts that were over cloud tiles it would have the cloud's pallete. I had to import two objects from 8-4 to use to get rid of the clouds on that first screen of 1-1
