Inserting a PCI card shouldn't take too much force.. just make sure nothing is blocking the path and that it is indeed a pci slot.. try another slot if that wont is giving you problems.

Right now I have a really crappy GeForce 2 MX DDR graphics card..

Well I want to step it up so I can play Unreal 2004 and ET.

I was hoping I could find one in the 50-60 dollar price range..

Anyone know of any good cards within that range?

I really wouldn't TOUCH an ATI as they have piss poor Linux support.. heh...

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=697013&Sku=E145-5200&CatId=1091

That's the card Im looking at..

Nvidia's drivers aren't top notch but they're allright.

EDIT:

I also might wait a lil bit and pick this up:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=84768&Sku=D10-2006&CatId=1091

EDIT 2:

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.6ghz, ;P I should hope it can play Unreal2k4

The opinions expressed in this thread by Yoshi ARRR are not that of my own and thus complete crap.

Therefore Tera Reid is now officially hotter than Uma Thurman.

Please now continue with your day as normal.

Why would I want to run an inferior OS to the one I currently use just for a piece of hardware I don't want?

Yiffy Kitten you're just plain wrong..

ATI offers drivers for linux they just suck.

I can do pretty much anything a Windows user can not to mention far more effeciently.

And with newbie distros such as Mandrake and Redha anyone can pick it up and use it.

The thing that makes linux shine is how flexible it is; server or desktop use it just shines over-all.

And as for BEST DSSKTOP OS going to Windows; you're crazy.

MacOS is what I'd prefer if I didn't use Linux.

I'm sorry but you obviously don't know ANYTHING about linux..

Linux has NO default file browser nor GUI.

I use GNOME as my desktop / file browser / etc.

Or you can switch over KDE which has a totally diffrent desktop / file browser.

And as far as the file system I find it ALOT easier than Window's spastic ways.

/home/mike

How long is yours.. I know it can't be that short.. to be honest it's been a while since I've used windows.

As far as the rest of it goes..

There is a linux distro called Gobo linux which changes it to be more like Windows-ish.

As far as changing system settings you're just plain nuts.

Mandrake has the BEST Control Center of ANY OS I've ever seen.

It even has a build in Hard Drive GUI partitioner and over-all hardware manager.

And installing software? HAH! Urpmi solves THAT "urpmi mozilla" would install Mozilla on Mandrake.

I use gentoo so i would do 'emerge mozilla' to compile it from source.

I'm sorry your points on gaming are just plain wrong.

Alot of games will have 100% linux ports. Alot of software are making changes to run perfectly in wine.

Dreamweaver allready has and are getting ready for a FULL port to linux.

Wine is alot better than you think. You obviously have no experience with WineX.

While not perfect it's not "piss poor slow".

Also, About using Terminals and stuff. I find it faster than using a GUI but that's just me.

But heh during the time I used Mandrake I didn't touch the console much.

And people offering piss poor driver support is a way of life. Even in windows.

And just for the record. I save more time in linux than windows.

I don't deal with viruses and random software errors. Any errors I've gotten have been user error.

I'd prefer my problems to be of my own and not my OS.

Linux allready has a good start game wise. Once I pick up my card I'm picking up Unreal 2004 (woot woot!)

As for the whole GUI thing..

I love the GNOME desktop. I use it. It works.

I don't want to get into what we got into on IRC but you get the picture.

The point of this thread has been filled and can be closed.

Amen to that..

I'm considering buying an Xbox so I don't have to install XP on my PC

Allright I don't know about you guys but alot of times I swollow my pride and take very big personal dives to help out a friend..

And just about every time they turn their backs on me.

I allways end up getting screwed when I try help people..

I don't know if I have bad luck or just bad friends..

How often does the outcome of situations you put yourself in jusitfy the actions you took?

I'm just wondering .. I can't be the only person who gets screwed over alot.

Allright...

I NEVER dream when I sleep... much less ever have nightmares..

Also me and my brother don't have the best realtionship in the world.

Well I just woke up crying from a horrible nightmare...

In the nightmare I had been on my computer and 3 of his friends came over and we were all having fun; I put on a weird dress for some weird reason and we were drinking dr. pepper and eating pizza..

Well the next thing I know his friend was yelling;

"HOLY FUCKING HELL MICHAEL COME HERE FAST!@!@!!!"

But here's the weird part.. I can't remember what his body looked like or how it happened when i woke up..

I just knew my brother had killed himself.. gah.. just thinking about it is making me fucking cry..

This is the weirdest and scariest nightmare I've ever had..

Hi,

As many of you know I've been using linux for a while now...

And I just installed XP Pro out of pure boredome..

I'm pretty impressed and pretty not.. alot of "please reboot now" shit.. some things never change, eh?

How do you people keep up such good uptime with that crap? Hehe.

Anyways I was just wondering what some good games and software i should use?

I just installed the usual stuff I used in linux (Firefox, Gaim, XChat, Emacs etc.)

Well.. I just installed Winamp.. and guess what? I have no sound!

XP Pro didn't detect my onboard sound and thus no sound.

I threw in my Sound Blaster PCI 16 card and xp didn't autoconfig the bugger..

If anyone can help me find some drivers PLEASE let me know.. music is my life..

EDIT:

Found the driver but it just simply says it cannot find any Sound Blaster Audio Devices.. fun.

To be honest I have no idea what could have caused that nightmare..

I mean sure we don't get along much but when something bad happens or just sometimes for the hell of it he'll be super nice to me..

Like most brothers we have weird understanding of how we love but hate each other .

It just scared and freaked me out more than anything.. btw Bella it's been a while since we've talked. (I'm Mike / Miqorz from the former Anime US .. I wonder if that place is still up..)
