Why do people think little things like that are "bugs"?

Anyways, the hack looks like it's got some spiffy level design, so we know atleast this is what you rely on, rather than flashy asm hacks and awesome graphics. Good job so far

Being the SMB3 hacker that I am, I thought it would be fun to record how I play SMB3 (and you all can see why I thought Mario Adventure wasn't too hard initially). Ok, this isn't necessarily a speed run, but I do fly through some of these levels and do some really cool tricks (like the Raccoon double kill). Unforunately, I died like, 24 times (maybe less?) before finally beaten the game, but I had a LOT of close calls that would make any SMB3 gamer go "whoa". So anyways, here's the file: For use on Nestopia only. I chose Nestopia because it gave me the best results for movie recording.

This looks very awesome. Being the residential SMB3 hacker and all, would you mind if I was a beta tester? I highly suggest you load the TSA from the rom IF you're loading the gfx from the rom. This looks pretty good, if you can get free form mode like in M3I in and the ability to save anywhere in the rom, I may have found a new editor

hell no I wouldn't mind! It would probably be best if I combined my editors with his, to create a sort of program package, so he doesn't have to recode editors I've already done unless he wants to.

As for the differences between the NES SMB3's: very small minute differences (text, a routine address changed here and there) that probably won't be a problem a building an editor around (I dunno, the Japanese version's offsets might be slightly off).

Hukka: if there's any information you need, either PM at any time or visit #rom-hacking at irc.forgetit.net I can be a bottomless pit of source. I just hope something doesn't happen and you have abandon this project. We need a better SMB3 editor

Personally, I think if this editor was moddedly exactly after M3I it would be a very good thing. M3I is a very good editor anyways, very flexible. It may do everything in the world, but who cares? But we're still speaking early here: hukka just has the levels being displayed. Before we start talking about features, lets way for a real editing demonstration to be shown

Well for one, it might help if you did a bit of research on your own. Asking how to hack NES roms is a very ambiguous question and cannot be answered in one post. No one can "show" you how to do it. Go to Google and do a few searches (such as, "Mega Man ROM Hacking"). When you've done some research, come back with some specific questions.

http://dahrkdaiz.panicus.org/cgi-bin/index.pl?page=ms

this is a hack of SMB1, it doesn't include any backtracking, but it does include quite a few neat features you may never thought you would like in SMB1. As for a hack for SMB1 backtracking, that's a daunting task that I doubt anyone is willing to take on (it requires creating a brand new routine that draws levels backwards and other routines, including reading the level data backwards, keeping all the level data in WRAM, modifying it appropriately). Sorry to dissapoint ya

The ONLY reason NES games can be converted to SNES games is because the SNES has a native 6502 mode in it's CPU, sense the SNES cpu is an upgraded 6502 processor (65c816).

Converting Genesis games would require a total rewrite of the game's code since A: the processors run at different speeds, B: different hardware (thus, different address ranges, registers, etc), C: different CPU, meaning the ASM is differetn (z80 and 65c816 aren't exactly the closests of cousins in the family of ASM langauges. If anything, compression routines would probably be the easiest thing to convert since a compression routine will work in almost any language with the right modifications to the original code.

Eyes: Brown
Hair: Dark dark brown (black unless in bright sunlight)
Weight: 220lb (but not as big as you might think...)
Height: 5'7"
Skin tone: I tan very easily, so I have a nice golden brown tone
Foot Size: 11.5 (US)
Physical Occupation: probably football (defensive linemen)
Bench: last I checked, 185
Curl: 45lb (one arm, dumbells)
Squat: no clue

I can play DDR for hours on end doing catas and 8 foot heavis (with the occasional 7 footer for a cool down) and still do well in each song (and yes, DDR does take quite a bit of physical ability at the higher stages of the game).

I have a gut which is where most of my weight resides. I have quite a bit of form in my arms and legs (my calves are friggin HUGE).

I kinda think you're over re-actiing. A screen showing errors is better than games randomly crashing. I'm sure that screen is MEANT to be there in case of errors, not a way to show that the GCN itself is going bad.

SMW has it's own hacking forum because there was a lot of SMW hacking posts clutterying up the general rom hacking forum, and this is what's happening again, except for Pokemon Hacking. I suggest that there should a Pokemon Hacking forum to help clean up the general rom hacking forum.

I believe it only works for SMAS, not SMAS + SMW and get the latest version of MI3 from http://www.lincolnsoft.com that should let you edit SMB3 on SMAS.

See, what parents don't understand, that nowadays, it's real life and movies that influence video games. So if you see it in video games, chances are, it appeared else where before hand. Before point fingers, they need to learn where the source is first

My system specs are:
2.54Ghz
512MB RAM
Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB

I can run this game at a decent FPS as long as I have specular effects off. I may just dip it back down to low quality, leaving the rest at 800x600 so I can up the FPS.

And this game is fucking eerie as all hell. DO play this with the lights off. I haven't even beaten the first level cuz I'm afraid to rush through the damn rooms !

No offense, but I don't really feel like downloading this hack at the moment (if you haven't noticed, I've sorta stepped out of hacking for a bit :/), but I'd like to know: how does the level end after hitting a P-Switch? Does it just end? Does the goal card appear? With this hack and Jaspiles coming, it's good to see other hackers can include ASM hacks in their SMB3 projects and that my notes are actually helping others, I just hope you can complete this all the way through cuz we need more than 3 complete SMB3 hacks

Im not upgrading for Doom 3 until the 512MB cards come out, that way, I can experience it in its full glory. But for now, 30-40 FPS is good enough for me (and thats on my Radeon 9000 card!). And those who have it, where are you at? Im at the end of Alpha Labs Sector 3 and boy, it sure is a bitch to get out of there with more than 50 health (starting at 99).
