I suppose your using ExGFX right? Anyway, to prevent mario from going behind objects, hold you mouse over the object (in LM) that Mario goes behind. Remember the number you should see in the tooltip window. Now open up the 16x16 editor and look for that nmuber. Click on the tile in the 16x16 editor and clcik the Edit 16x16 attributes. Now you will see a tab that says either "Dont change layer" or it will say "layer priority enabled". Just change this tab to "layer priority disabled". Hope that works.

I did this, but instead of SMW, I tried it with YI. It didn't go over so well as you may have guessed. First off, I had 2 entire "scrolls" done, perfect palettes, some graphics were a bit off because YI uses lots of layers, but the pathes were perfect and everything. I had it so the Start+Select option couldn't be used to view the whole overworld.

Anyway, I never started the levels because I ran out of space with overworld graphics and when it came to the submaps, they were to small. So I scraped that and now Im working on my hack, Super Mario Era (SME). If anyone wants to suggest a better name, Im open to it.

Well, theres 3 hacks of this game that I know of. I have no clue how good they are, what kind of a hack they are or anything like that seeing as I never played them, nor like CT... But if you want, I can *cough*send them via e-mail*cough* if you wanted to try them out. Or I could d/l them and upload them to my site.

The guide has been out since almost the start of summer...

Anyway, as soon as you get an answer to this, that would be great because the same thing happens to me. I also think I follow the guide exactly so I have no clue whats going on.

Ya, I know it uses four layers, but I was talking about the overworld, not levels them selves. Altho I think the OW uses 3-4 layers also. It would be 100% impossible to make a "clone" of YI to SMW. First off, all the ASM needed would be impossible.

SMB3:

And someone mentioned the mushroom houses. I think it would be perfectly possible to do these. The graphics would be easy enough, just not doing the item that flys from the box to the storage list. The chests would be easy enough to do (well maby not easy, but not very hard). Since SMB3 doesn't use the switch palaces, just replace the switches with chests. Then make it so you can walk through them. Now asm a block to act as exiting a level when standing on/infront of it and pressing up. It could also act as an on off switch also triggering the chest to open.

well, concidering they have blow holes, tails, their in the water and they are the blue cartoon fish colour, its pretty easy to see they are whales.... Also, if I remember correctly, I think there is a mouth which indicates that its an animal.

What did you originally think it was?

Or you could sign up for a free account at www.freewebs.com. Its quite easy to set up an account. IMO, much easier than geocities (never tried lycos).

Okay, this is quite simple to make the mushroom houses. I have almost the same house in my SMW hack as you see in SMB3. With mine I well...um...sort of ripped of FuSoYa's 'mushroom door'...hope thats okay. Anyway, just make the BG black and then make the yellow/orange part on the inside FG tiles. With mine, looking at the the SMB3 house and my house, the only differences are:

1. There is no toad (that will change. I may put him in)
2. There are no chests (that WILL change. They will be for show tho)
3. Instead of solid walls, a wall at the bottom uses the door from FuSoYa's hack (I will change it if he doesn't want me using it)

There are a few minor palette glitches and no animation but other than that it looks the same. I can get a pic sometime tomo.

EDIT:

The hardest part would be the bosses and the "jumping onto the flying ship" intro.

Okay, you have alot of "repeat tiles" in that BG. If you are trying to fit more in, you will need to delete some. I have noting to do right now, so if you want, you can send me your hack, ExGFX file(s) you want, tell me the level you want it in, and I can do it all for you. I know you wont learn anything that way, but then you can get onto your levels.

BTW, that second shot looks NOTHING like the BG you are trying to make. I thought you said the BG was from a NES game? If so, dont use SNES graphics in the BG aswell, doesn't look good. So you can send all that stuff (.zip or .rar) to Keikonium@hotmail.com if you want me to do it for ya.

I loved your first demo! It was very well done, and I can't wait for this one!! That pancake idea you came up with would be very cool, syrup rivers and such would be awesome. I would love to see the overworld for that one!

And BMF, he could simply use the "slippery blocks" that come with block tool for the syrup on the pancakes.

IMO, what would be better is a custom block that when mario walks on it, it slows him down a bit giving the illusion of sticky syrup. Same with "syrup falls". When you try and swim up them, you have to swim twice as hard as you do when in water, and you would fall slower. A block that does this may be in block tool, under the speed block things.

Good luck with this hack, and hope to see more!

I heard this as well in the SMW fourm. So it defentally wasn't on the old board, which means the post is still there (unless the thread was deleted). If only there was a search option to search for a string of text...

I think it may have been Orynider (sorry if I spelt that wrong) who said this. Something to do with Zsnes, and making it load up a different SPC or other sound format. But I would think that it would just play for the whole game seeing as zsnes would need to know when and where to load mulitipul songs which would be impossible.

Graphical glitched or they aren't where you think that they should be? Like say if you moved Yoshi's House up one square, now when you view the paths yoshi's house isn't attached to the paths. Its supposed to happen, you need to change events and paths your self.

If thats not what you mean, then you may want to list (1. 2. 3. etc) what your doing and then exactly what happens. Or upload a picture so we know exactly whats going on, and how we can help you fix it.

You want a hand drawn graphics request? I have a few that I could use:

1. Any cave sets (even ripped ones if your ripping as well)
2. Any tree/forest sets
3. Any mushroom sets
4. Any set that combines all three

Or just a custom grass tileset. Slimy would be interesting.

How would I go about doing this? When I try to change the BG by making the level editable, it doesn't do anything...

I just need to put the YI "patch" moon in the BG, maby with a few clouds.

Actually even better would be the bowser BG from YI.

So anyone know how I can edit this? Thanks

Okay, thanks guys.

And what do you mean by static sprites? If I could just get the patch moon (its either 4 16x16 or 9 16x16 cant remember) in the BG that would be great. The only reason I need this is because on bowsers map, I have a moon. So would it be possible to make it on the same layer as the castle top?

What are you talking about? You most likely have the beta version of the game, or your using a game genie (or other cheat device). I know for a fact that this doesn't happen in either of my versions (cartridge SMAS, and SMAS+W and both on my computer).

Alright. Static sprites are something I have used in the game, but not the correct way (I just used invisible blocks and surronded the sprite so they wouldn't move).

Anyway, I would create a static sprite, but I have no clue how to make a new sprite by replacing a null sprite. I can make new ones using existing sprites, but not null sprites. So if someone could tell me how to replace sprite 11 (or was it 12?) that would be great. I have read Mikey's sprite data, but is a bit confusing to someone like me.

I have two shots here, and they are exactly what I want the bowser battle to look like:

First, this is what I could probably do.

And this is what I wish I could have. May be possible, but would use ALOT of palettes.

And possibly, since your going with a food theme, make the food in bowsers map rotten or something. Have some flys, maggots (maby replacing wigglers), and other bugs crawling around. Just a thought.

And for mint frosting, I would use a seafoam green. Yours is abit...off.

Other than that this is looking awesome. I love your custom graphics. *waits to see what kind of graphics you will use for caves*

okay, that makes sense. I will go off and try to create a sprite...

Now this may be in the post of mikey, but how do I go about making it so the sprite is static? I want it to act like its not even there.
