I dont know if exactly what you said is possible, but many many people hvae told me that editing the sprites through the 16x16 editor is impossible. I have found this to be wrong tho. I can change there palettes, and what they look like and simply save it by pressing shift + F9 (or ctrl + F9). It works fine, just I can't change what they do... BMF/Neko did a hack with a chuck boss that he edited and made that boss have HP or something like that.

I have heard of an offset that changes what lakitu throws. It was in a topic a while back...but it might have been a GS/PAR code. Anyway, If you want both boos and rexes, would it be easy enough to just use edited tile graphic ExGFX?

I do this all the time in my hack. I can have bullet bills and on/off switches in the same level. Normally the on/off switch will show a rex head when hit, but simply replacing the graphics with an on/off switch fixes that problem. However you wont have rexes.

I am pretty sure that you can have boos and skel koopas in the same level. I will check later...

The only PS2 game thats actually playable this way (even tho you still need to d/l a few things) is FFX. Some japanese guy had videos of him playing FFX, but he could only get up a little past the title screen. Like where your in that city and blitzball is going on. I cant really remember FFX because I really hated it But like Colleen said, the slowdown is VERY slow.

I think that this topic may have been at gamefaqs.com but again it was like a year or so ago

I have heard of PS2 emulators that supposedly play PS2 games, but not by putting a real disk in and running it.

BTW, dont use the Nintendo Presents graphics. Fusoya told people that the Nintendo Presents thing is used to keep track of mario and yoshis size/movements or something like that. So did modify that. Its used for mario and/or yoshi.

Does the bottom of the BG have a bunch of midway points, water tiles etc etc. Is it actual parts of objects from the game and do they move? Also is it a vertical level?

If so, just move your entire level up or down one screen and it should fix the problem. There are probably other things you must do also but Im not to sure about what those may be.

Its called SMW Beanbag Adventures or something like that. Some screens I saw of it were pretty cool, and I wanted to know what ever happened to that? There was another one that I can't seem to remeber the name too, but it had some kind of underwater cave. I think it was blackholes hack...but Im not sure. It had awesome lighteing effects in a castle type level with YI graphics.

If anyone knows what happened to these hacks, especially the second one would anyone happen to know if there was a demo? I really want to see those lighting effects.

Oh also there was a candy themed one, what ever happened to that? The OW was really cool

This is truly amazing!! I really need to start reading into ASM...

In a few levels in KT's hack he has respawning sprites...which I really would like to have. Hes got, mecha-koopas, platforms, goombas, and my favourite...torpedo teds! The torpedos is what I really need, but some respawing wigglers, doubled stemed Pirana plants, or bullet shooters that fire out bombs like in SMB3 would be AMAZING!!!

Good job with finding this! Now all we need is some music editing...

EDIT:

I was looking at sprite 12 in LM (unedited) and it was only 1 16x16 tile. Now, what if I wanted to make a large hammer bro (SMB3 Giant land) which looks to me like it is 4 16x16 tiles. How would this work? Would I have to find an unused tile that is 4 16x16 tiles or what?

Well, I beat half of round one, a few in round two, and got stuck on a mountain picture with a word in the cornor on round three. It was the second or third picture.

I think an enemy editor would be great. Not only because I can't do ASM, but because there would be many more hacks with a new touch. There should be a regestration of some sort so that a certain few would be aloud to use it...but that wouldn't really stop from others distrubiting it.... I have a list of unused sprites also with some interesting ones I found:

Princess: 7C
Iggy's Star Ball: A7
Null Sprites: 53, 69, 88, 36, 12, 85*, EB, EC, F1, F0, EE
Chargin' Chuck 2: 9C
Bowsers Bowling Ball: A1
Fish 2: 17
Sinking Fire Ball: B5
Sliding Koopa 2: BD

* This is the regular red X but it has a small mole pasted overtop of it.

So I figure that any of the Null sprites can be replaced. But 2 sprites that confused me was the sliding koopa and the chuck. I think that the second chuck is the one that you see when the splittin' chuck splits but im not sure. The sliding koopa is just an extra? It would be great for a goomba that you can flatten without replacing the blue koopa

Nope, changing that doesn't matter, its defentally the music. If I knew where any of the offsets were, actually just the underground and water music offsets, I could play around a bit. If you listen to the underground music, when you jump on a koopa it makes a different sound than when you jump on one with the piano music enabled. This is the sound I want with the water music. The graphics have noting to do with it sadly...

You should really have asked this in the sprite creation thread...but it involves ASM, so if you really want to do this you need to find the offsets of those sprites. Then there will be an address you need to change a few bytes in and it will make them un-bounce-off-able. It took me 2 mins to create a buzzy beatle that I can bounce off of. I changed 1 number, 70 and changed that to 6F. So I figure that 6F is to enable counce, and 70 is to enable squish... But just check in the sprite creation thread.

I have beat the game about 2 days ago...so if anyone needs any help just ask.

**********SPOILER************

The red switch is located by getting the secreat exit in water castle. You need to enter the level. Then go as far as you can until you come to a pipe that you can go down. Then go down that pipe. Go as far as you can and there will be a pipe you can go up. Go up that pipe. You will be in an area that looks like the entrance to the stage. Now jump across the YI castle things that look like this 'oooo'. Go as far as you can and go down another pipe at the end. You will be in an area with lots of torpedo teds. Get to the end and you will se a pipe with a question block above it containing a mushroom. Now SAVESTATE! Okay, if you look at the wall to the right you will see an odd patern, swim into it. You will go thru the wall, just keep swiming until you get to the key. Grab the key and go back out and savestate with the key in a safe spot. Now go backwards thru this part of the level with the key until you come back to the pipe you started at. Go up that pipe and savestate. Now take the key and swim under the level going right. You will eventually see the keyhole.

BTW, In the thread about completed hacks, it says this hack has 55 exits. I am only missing the secret exit in one level...unless there are some yellow stages with two exits. Can anyone conferm that there are 55 exits?

And I will d/l JJ's hack. I always loved that level with the Mario Partyish BG and the one with the huge chocolate bars as ground Very cool.

I think that an editor that:

1. lets you select the sprite you want to change
2. Lets you chose its properties (smashable, bounce off with a jump/spin etc)
3. Wether it can be killed with a fireball/cape/something else....
4. What tileset it belongs with
5. Size (1 16z16 square, 2, 3 etc.
6. Level interaction (lava, water, gravity....)
7. Kill hits (3 fireballs to kill, 2 cape twirls etc)
8. Animations (1, 2, 3 etc)
9. Chose the graphics you want to load (dont know how this would be done)
10. Wether its respawning (that little star that makes sprites come from off the screen)
11. Anything else that may be cool to add.

Alos, maby there could be sprites premade that come with it. Like that shoe is SMB3 that everyone likes, the water creature that follows mario and sort of looks like a jelly fish/ snake, Some SMB2 sprites. Like Birdo, those masks, wart etc etc. Even changed SMW enemies. Make a bullet bill shooter that follows amrio and shots bullets at him. And it could jump. Maby even a flying one...

I cant do any of this, nor know if its possible, but if it is think how many more ingenious level designes may come out of it to incorperate the sprites

EDIT:

Just thought of two more things that could be incorperated into a possible editor:

12. A preview window/tab that shows the sprite moving (if animated), and what it will look like in the game.
13. Possibly adding sound effects like when you stomp a shell. Or even changing the sound all ready made ones make.

On the topic of name changes why does the same princess have the names of, princess, princess toadstool, and princess peach? If they aren't the same, then doesn't that mean mario is a player?
