Now this is one **** issue! I can't install anything which uses "windows installer". Specifically, the programs I've tried are Macromedia Coldfusion MX, Tribes Vengeance SP demo, and Far Cry demo 2.
I recently cleaned out *most* of my XP SP2 system restore points since they took over 20GB. Reinstalling windows isn't an option, it will say I have a newer version than what's on the XP disc. The install service is on too. Any windows installer programs will do one of 2 things.

1- Load 100% of the files, then quit.
2- Attempt to start loading files, get to 100%, and quit.

Both of these give the message of "The wizard was interrupted before (name) could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

Funny thing is, InstallShield Wizard programs that do NOT use windows installer run great. That includes the rest of macromedia studio mx. The installshield website doesn't have information this message.

Can anybody please give me some detailed information on how to force Kazaa Lite Resurrection or Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4.3 into connecting? I just had it a while ago, but uninstalling the older of these two programs caused the new one to mess up.
I'm using XP SP2 on a DSL connection.

Good hack. I lost all my data too. I'm building a sequel to the last one. It probably won't get far unless there's someone I can send the game to for overworld building.

Is there any sort of program or utility that can tell you if ports such as IDE, Floppy, etc. are damaged? I need something which can do this for my floppy connector.

Posted on 12-10-04 12:48 PM, in Graphics issue Link
I've been getting a really strange display issue lately. It only affects certain games, and I can't take a screenshot of the problem since "print screen" doesn't show any gfx errors. I've seen it in The Sims 2, True Crime, Tetris Worlds and Dungeon Siege for sure. My specs are:

Video card - GeForce FX 5200 AGP
Driver - ForceWare 66.93
System RAM - 512mb
CPU - Athlon XP @ 1700mhz
OS - XP pro SP2
DirectX - 9.0c

Is there anything the games I listed have in common? Like a certain type of rendering mode? The display is worst in True Crime, in case that helps.

Can anybody tell me what happens when you put on too much postage? The rate here is 37 cents, but all I've got are two 34s. I don't wanna lose the money.

I can hear something when shaking one of mine. Nobody has a screwdriver for it. SSBM is good to test with, even the slightest misfire from the control stick will affect jumping.

No, but I've only recently started caring that M-rated games even exist. I never shop alone anyway. Of course, it could be a problem since I don't have ID.

I've got tons of online software, but pretty much all the players are too skilled. What should I do? Also, the only platform it'll work on is PC.

If there's ever been proof that Windows is crap, this is it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/theclaw/error.jpg I've tried Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Microsoft Antispyware, Norton Antivirus, and the Windows System Restore. Nothing has fixed my error! Even manually typing in a new copy of the file Autoexec.nt doesn't help. I can place it in c:\windows\system32, but it'll completely vanish upon a reboot (which is neccessary for Windows to load system files like this). The issue started after browsing keygen/warez/crack sites looking for "condition zero". Google doesn't even appear to list the offending site now, even though it was there either this morning or yesterday. Microsoft's listing about MS-DOS programs didn't help didn't work. There's got to be a way to fix my computer problem...

Aghh! This is far worse than I thought. I've reinstalled Windows, but have a bunch of other problems. It appears that data on my D drive is being corrupted again. I was certain that NTFS had been the miracle for it. What's really weird is how in my emulator directories, folders containing Nintendo ROMs and emulators appear to be damaged more than ones with Sega files. For example, my GBA and SNES stuff look gone, yet the Genesis folder is untouched. This doesn't seem random.
I'll keep reporting on this breaking case until it's all fixed.

I just happened to toy around with ycompress and TLP a little. One thing in the game that looks interesting is the different icons. I've seen a language select screen working on a real SNES, but have no clue on how to activate it. Is there a Game Genie code or anything?

- Translations of SNES puzzle games: namely Panel de Pon, Kirby Kira Kizzu (Super Star Stacker?), and whatever's the best Puyo Puyo.

- A worthwhile hack using the Sonic 3 engine (instead of part 1 or 2)

- Unlock/create the modes above Ace League in F-Zero 2

- A better way to change the language in Wario Land 3, having to start a new game is pointless

- Pokemon Crystal hack of any sort

I'm only mentioning the easiest ones I've thought of. That first one is mostly what I want.

Posted on 04-01-05 10:20 AM, in my BIOS doesn't allow a B drive!? Link
I had recently talked someone into giving me an old 5 1/4, and can't seem to either tell it's proper capacity or make the computer run two drives. in CMOS, there's only a listing for "legacy diskette A" with no B mentioned there. However, my motherboard's manual does show a B in it's picture. The drive in question says "epson sd-600" on a white sticker, but has "sd-680" stamped to the side. I don't know which one it actually is. This is confusing. In case it helps, here's the relevant lines of my system information. Note that this computer's bios hasn't been updated. Give me a good link to it if there's a newer version.

System Manufacturer ASUS
System Model A7V8X-MX SE
BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 1002, 12/4/2003
SMBIOS Version 2.2

This is a sorta technical question. After taking one apart, how can I get it back together? I'm having trouble with L2 and R2. Their little tabs never stick in the right place. Anyone have a detailed tutorial on this? I need help! Kingdom Hearts doesn't allow PS1 input devices...

Well, I took it apart because the X button was responding slow. It had been gunked up with something. Being used for attack in KH, X is very important for that game. I'll probably take the stupid thing to a professional fixer-guy. Enough, I promise not to bother this board with it anymore.

I don't get this at all. After installing any version of their video card drivers on either Windows 2000 or XP, the display goes blank at the end of the splash screen showing "Windows 2000/XP Professional". Specs-

Mainboard: ASUS A7V8X-MX SE
CPU: Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 512mb
Video card: eVGA.com GeForce FX 5200 AGP
Chipset: VIA (KM400?)

If you want more information about my system, I have a CPU-Z log which gives the BIOS version and such details. Note that I've got 2 computers set up now, I'll be very clear on which one my posts apply.

Edit: This may not be related, but why do my web browsers (IE, Firefox, Netscape) lock up when trying to access Windows Update? I'll see if installing SP1 or SP2 fixes it.

Looks like this thread (and a video card) can go in the gutter.

I've solved the problem - my video card is simply burnt out! It's a cheap model with no fan, and had been overclocked to the extreme several times. Sorry for bothering anyone.
