Well if anyone wants to exchange levels let me know via PM. The editor is in the latest version, it wasn't originally included. It's soo fun, you can just make insane levels with allsorts of cool stuff that isn't in the game.

To say it "looks great" is simply dolloping on praise for the sake of it. It's an average first hack. Given that LM lets just about anyone place SMW tiles and sprites without learning anything, I don't think there's much to say here.

Seriously, giving out false praise is just as damaging as being terminally obnoxious, if not more.

It's not rude. Most people's first hacks sucked. My first hack was a steaming pile of cack. I didn't even post it. If at first you don't succeed, you're just about normal...

Hahaha!!!! Rock and Roll! This looks really cool. The mindless gore rocks!

Wish I had time for SMW hacking these days

Maybe some day.... Anyway, this was a nice treat to see when I popped in here! Keep it up!

Damn, what's with all the complaints? I don't like the music. BOOHOO!

This is an amazing job, and offering it for other people to base their hacks on is noble. Good good stuff! I'm sure I'll make some use of it if I ever get back into SMW hacking.

I used to design Mario levels and also other game designs all the time on paper. I just used to churn the stuff out like a machine. These days if I were to sit at a piece of paper I probably would harldy get any ideas at all. It's much nicer to just design straight into LM because you can see what you're doing and interact with it (playtesting regularly).

I used to be obsessed with paper designing though. The first thing I would do for a Mario sheet was divide the page into several horizontal strips (until I played SMB3). Each level typically took two lines. I even had my own shorthand for describing sprite properties on the back of the paper - for example, a platform which fell when you stood on it, would be marked with a symbol which was a P with a downwards arrow on the bottom of it.

The whole practice was fruitless stuff on a practical level but I'm sure it taught me to know and trust my creative side. Just wish I could see some of the old designs and verify if they were as amazing as I felt they were at the time

That's freaking amazing!

It's things like this that are making me want to get back into SMW hacking again.

I have only one 'complaint' - in the parallax scrolling effect, the 'near' background seems to be scrolling a bit faster than the foreground, though I figure if it's all editable then the values are arbitrary.

Wow... This combined with colour cycling and custom tile animation would make for some VERY atmospheric levels!

And this'll be priceless when I get around to making my proposed 'psychedelic' levelstyle.

Well, I wanted to release a demo of this thing. I have made SO many levels and extra parts for this as well as made the graphics nicer. The only problem is that I was in the middle of solving a problem with custom blocks when I abandoned it, so now I have several different backup copies and it's very difficult to know what was going on with each of them in regards to custom block insertion.

And the custom block list appears to have gone so I would have to manually replace around 150 custom block entries

To those that don't remember, what happened with my hack is that I added a lot of custom blocks with blocktool and unfortunately discovered the 'custom block slowdown' bug. Slowly I began thinning enemies out to reduce the slowdown, until I realized that I couldn't delete any more without it getting ridiculously easy.

I'd really like to continue this hack and show the levels I made, but I'm tempted to just start a completely new project from scratch! That would certainly be a lot more organized. I'm tempted to get working on some block graphics right away.

Does the .dsc have the state of Blocktool encoded in it? I'll have to have a look...

My last work on Sendy's World had most of the overworld done, including events. Actually I completely did the whole event list to include more shortcuts, secrets and stuff like that. Less linear. I had a HUGE surge in level design before I quit, making allsorts of interesting level ideas out of custom blocks. For example a really fun bonus level where you have to negotiate allsorts of appearing/disappearing block jump puzzles. Then there was the random pyramid maze where you have to go to the divining room and read the heirogliphics to get the directions otherwise the maze totally slaugters you.

But starting anew is really tempting, too.. SW is VERY disorganized and there are so many new technologies since I worked on it...

It seems I may be able to resurrect this project then. But I may end up having to move all the custom blocks to a single page. Does the new blocktool use this new technique for making sure there's not too much slowdown? Or should I just hope that the fastrom patch will sufficiently combat this? It's a heck of a lot of work...

Hmmm.... Make new hack... ponder ponder ponder.... hmmmm.... I'll keep you guys posted, and I'll post some recent screenies from SW within the next day or so.

Well, I found my most up-to-date non-spoiled backup of SW, but oddly a lot of the graphics are showing up weird in LM, even though they're fine in the game... This is most weird. And also all the custom block tooltips have gone, which probably means inserting new custom blocks would be a major hastle.

I may just release an unlocked IPS of this and move the hell on to a new project. I've learned so much about design since some of these levels that it isn't even funny... There are some really nice moments in here though..

So yeah folks, it looks like a new hack is going to be the way to go!

Every time I do I get a corrupt zip file. I tried three times in a row.
