Well, I wanted to release a demo of this thing. I have made SO many levels and extra parts for this as well as made the graphics nicer. The only problem is that I was in the middle of solving a problem with custom blocks when I abandoned it, so now I have several different backup copies and it's very difficult to know what was going on with each of them in regards to custom block insertion.

And the custom block list appears to have gone so I would have to manually replace around 150 custom block entries

To those that don't remember, what happened with my hack is that I added a lot of custom blocks with blocktool and unfortunately discovered the 'custom block slowdown' bug. Slowly I began thinning enemies out to reduce the slowdown, until I realized that I couldn't delete any more without it getting ridiculously easy.

I'd really like to continue this hack and show the levels I made, but I'm tempted to just start a completely new project from scratch! That would certainly be a lot more organized. I'm tempted to get working on some block graphics right away.

that sucks. Hey, have you tried applying fastrom.ips to your ROM? It's supposed to help alleviate those problems, I thought. Anyways, your best bet might be to check each file's "last updated" property, and see which one you workd on ;ast, then work off of that one. Perhaps on one of your older backups you'll also find a .dsc file you could use to help.

Well, it's definitely nice to see you've been picking up on Sendy's World again. It would be awesome if you could finally have a complete SMW hack and join the revered group of people who actually have completed a SMW hack. Well, my best advice would be since you lost your custom block list, just try and cut corners and insert the blocks you feel are the most important to your hack. If you have just a few custom blocks lingering in one or two levels you may want to consider ones that don't seem absolutely necessary. However, it's been a very long time since I last played Sendy's World so I don't recall how heavily you relied on certain blocks. Just try and do the best you can.

If worse comes to worse, you can start a new hack, and I'd back you up on that 100% because from your perfomance on Sendy's World you've proven that you can make a great hack, so I'll look forward to just about anything you put out.

By the way, how far did you get along in Sendy's World. Like, how many levels/worlds did you have left?

Does the .dsc have the state of Blocktool encoded in it? I'll have to have a look...

My last work on Sendy's World had most of the overworld done, including events. Actually I completely did the whole event list to include more shortcuts, secrets and stuff like that. Less linear. I had a HUGE surge in level design before I quit, making allsorts of interesting level ideas out of custom blocks. For example a really fun bonus level where you have to negotiate allsorts of appearing/disappearing block jump puzzles. Then there was the random pyramid maze where you have to go to the divining room and read the heirogliphics to get the directions otherwise the maze totally slaugters you.

But starting anew is really tempting, too.. SW is VERY disorganized and there are so many new technologies since I worked on it...

No, but the .dsc will have the names of the blocks, their descriptions, and their MAP16 numbers in it, as well as whether they're whole-page or not.

It seems I may be able to resurrect this project then. But I may end up having to move all the custom blocks to a single page. Does the new blocktool use this new technique for making sure there's not too much slowdown? Or should I just hope that the fastrom patch will sufficiently combat this? It's a heck of a lot of work...

Hmmm.... Make new hack... ponder ponder ponder.... hmmmm.... I'll keep you guys posted, and I'll post some recent screenies from SW within the next day or so.

I don't know of any new blocktool. The FastROM patch will help, but if you have a lot of blocks (I have ~270, could stand to remove some though) you'll still get a bit of slowdown at time. (Also, it's incompatible with the gravity-changing blocks; your ROM won't run if you apply both.)

In the beginning this was the BEST hack I've ever played. With new ideas popping out like weeds, I simply must see what Sendy has to pull out this time.

Well, I found my most up-to-date non-spoiled backup of SW, but oddly a lot of the graphics are showing up weird in LM, even though they're fine in the game... This is most weird. And also all the custom block tooltips have gone, which probably means inserting new custom blocks would be a major hastle.

I may just release an unlocked IPS of this and move the hell on to a new project. I've learned so much about design since some of these levels that it isn't even funny... There are some really nice moments in here though..

So yeah folks, it looks like a new hack is going to be the way to go!

Yeah, it's important to let go... I always worry I'll be losing some neat levels and stuff when I start new hacks, but when I start over I never feel like I've really lost anything. It's what you've learned from past works that's important, not the works themselves.

And whether or not you lock your hack, keep in mind that with things like RLM people can get at it pretty easily anyway.

Yea, Sendy's World was/is a great hack and it's sad, that you have to start it again. Anyway, good luck and have fun working on the new Sendy's World.

That has to be horrible.

Normally the "Oh god I don't wanna do this, I'll do something else!" problem.

I see an eight days bump... oh well, not that bad yet.

Sendy: If it really does not improve, you ought to extract all the graphics and levels and reinsert them into a clean ROM, then start using the blocks more carefully (probably BMF's page $F hack (I think it was somewhere on his site) will help).

Sendy, do you have any repeat blocktool blocks, or do you link the new block to the old block?
