Great stuff Smallhacker! Its amazing that you think youve already found the level data. Im sure that if people like you keep helping out, we can have something in the works in no time.

Oh, searching the net, i have found this info.

http://desnet.fobby.net/doc/Mario%20Bytes.txt

Its not much, but it could save some time.

Im going to see what i can find myself.

I remember fighting in that stage sometime in the game, so i know that it is used. I think its right before you go into the sunken ship to fight that shark dude.

can those BG's be changed real time by editing ram? or does that just determine what is loaded?

Nice find btw.

Yah, getting it started is usually the hard part. I am going to invest a lot of time in finding data as soon as my exams are over.

And, WTH??? SePH didnt make Hyrule Magic. He just uses it alot. Sephiroth3 made it. I guess i can see how the 2 could get confused.

Im gonna write an editor for it once i have enough data. I just need to find enough data. I think i am going to need someone to break the compression on it. I dont really know much about that. Any volunteers?

Something tells me your not changing the entrance #, and are therefore being transported to some random place. Read the HM guide for info on it.

Can we please bury this thread? I hate these 3 month old bumps that just clutter up stuff... for a min i thought somone had hacked my account cause i didnt remember posting... figures that it was 3 months old.

BTW, it is not feasable to keep all pictures up due to bandwidth and space limits on the free hosting sites.

Ok guys, hows it goin. I realize its been a couple months since any new pics have been released so me and Dudeman decided it was time to post some more with new info about progress.

Progress as of... well, today

Dungeons

Hyrule Castle is done
Light 1 is done
Light 2 is done
Light 3 is done
Agahims castle is done
Dark 1 is done

Dark 2 is started
Dark 3 is done
Dark 4 is done
Dark 5 is done
Dark 6 is done
Dark 7 is done

Dark 8 is done but may have glitches

Now, i would have to say that that is damn impressive. ALL but one dungeon complete! That is 12 origional dungeons, with the final one in the works.

Custom Music is being worked on
Custom Graphics are being made
Custom ASM hacks are complete, and more are being worked on (sorry, its a surprise)

Overworld

Light world - 68/68 screens complete
Dark World - 56/68 screens complete

Just waiting for the final stages before those areas can be built.

Note - Names have remained the same here as to not ruin any surprises, but that doesnt mean that the dark world is necessarily the same as in zelda 3, or a Dark 6 for example is a traditional zelda 3 dungeon.

Now for the good stuff.... PICS!

THE LIGHT WORLD

THE DARK WORLD

THE DUNGEONS

Dark Prophecy is definitly nearing completion. Ill be setting up a homepage for it soon on one at one of the major hacking sites. Look for it in the near future. I hope you guys enjoyed that and are looking forward to playing it. As always, your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Thanks,

Omega and Dudeman

Thx guys. As for what remains once the last dungeon and overworld screens are finished:

Monologue - none has been done, but the story is complete. We are leaving the text till the very end.
Caves - Almost all the caves need to be done, but the major cave system linking parts of the overworld together is complete.
GFX - Several sprites are being made to replace the origionals by a very skilled spriter. None have been revealed yet.
Music - Some music is being made... wether it will make it into the final game, im not yet sure.
Testing - All the dungeons have been tested, as well as the overworld which has been reworked to fix glitches. The only real testing that will need to be done is testing the game as a whole.
ASM hacks - Some cool stuff here guys. None of it has been shown, but it is awesome. Stuff like AI and credits are still being hacked.

Thats pretty much it.

BTW, you should know that the boss rooms are all, and although the one shown is awesome, its not the nearly the best. Dudeman really did a great job on them.

That sux Geiger... sry to hear that.

Its great that TF is getting a great update, but i really wish there was a Mario RPG editor. Time spent on that would be better IMO. I wish i knew enough to make one.

Do not worry, difficulty is perfect. As for the dialog, there is only about 300 seperate text blocks in the game, which could easily be done in a weekend. I dont see it being a problem. Keep in mind that im not translating... just creating the text for an already created story.

Thanks for the info Euclid. Ill be sure to put it to use when I get to the credits.

As for the text, im confident that it wont take me longer than a week tops. Ive got help from dudeman as well.

As for the dead ponds commment... no need to worry, the game has been thoroughly tested and will go through an extensive testing phase to avoid problems such as this as creators tent to miss their mistakes more often than beta testers trying to figure things out from scratch.

Oh, and, no full maps for the obvious reasons. I have been very careful about not spoiling the game too much before release. Sure it builds hype and all, but i think it would be ultimatley less fun for the players if they had seen the whole overworld going in rather than exploring from scratch. Single screens usually dont give any sense of the layout, or whats beyond that single screen which is why I opted to go with them alone. Im sure you will appreciate it when playing.

I have about 300 different zelda roms spread across 3 computers... i learned my lesson the hard way. I have also found ways around the corruption in HM. Its all about learning the little quirks of the program.

As for the new graphics, i have seen some, and my pixel artist is doing a fantastic job. I can only hope that he continues to do great work, and hopefully we can have a great looking game ready for release in a couple months.

Yeah, playing it in an emulator would be great, but you know what would be even better? Playing it on a snes. Thats how i am going to play it through for the first time. When i release it, I intend to release a full guide to building your own cartridge and putting DP onto it. I am also making carts for a select few who have requested it, but since thats probably illegal and i dont have the time, i am not offering it to everyone.

Hmm, i guess i just stop hacking for a while. Usually a month at least, but when i sit down to hack again, i can get a ton done.

Yeah, a sticker on the Dark Prophecy Cartridge would rock. I plan to render up a cool 3d scene in 3DSMAX and photoshop some text onto it which ill print out onto a sticker. Im thinking of a cool mountain scene where link is looking down onto hyrule, or perhaps a nice water scene from like Zoras Domain or somethin cool like that. Ill model the 3d scene after areas in DP. I am great with scenes, so it should turn out well. Ill probably post it here when im done so that people can print out their own stickers.

Yeah, for some of the more advanced games, you will need to use carts with special chips in them, but the beauty of zelda is that it could go on almost any cart cause it doesnt use any special hardware. If your interested in putting other games on, you should look for a cartridge list online... There are some real cheap games that use FX chips like Stunt Race FX and such. For Zelda DP, you will be able to use almost any cart though.
