Having Gameport or USB won't make a huge difference - I just got USB ones due to laziness to install drivers. Plug it in -> Use it fifteen seconds later in ZSNES.
An IRQ conflict also is impossible since the sound chip is on the mainboard

There were errors reported for additional spaces in layouts. It is even wors if you are viewing the board in guest status with layouts turned off automatically.

Just see that
http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/Hyperhaxx0r_bigspace.jpg while in guest status, it shows a large blank area whereas his layout displays correctly

http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/Hyperhaxx0rs_layout.jpg here, while I was logged in.

Edit: Please, someone edit the post above - my post is merged with that/messed up

Testing it ...

Cannot get it work in my Deer Park Alpha 2 build. Settings applied are shown here; and the file works normally if pasted into a new window/tab
http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/doesntwork.jpg

I refreshed the page several times, uploaded the file again, the CHMODs also are right - but nevertheless, I could just install the Proxomitron again; and I still stick with the old Lycos account. My avatar and ally my stuff is on it since more than two years and still working

I'll limit it to the most important ones only:

- Mega Man III: Hard Man Stage (NSF Track 5), Snake Man (Track 7), Shadow Man (Track 9), Dr. Wily Stage 3 & 4 (Track 11, it rocks!), Right before the last two bosses (Track 12), Boss #1 (Track 13), Boss #2 (Track 14), Password (Track 15), Credits (Track 16)

- 1943: (mostly in-level music) Track 1, Track 3, Track 4

- Metroid: Title, Brinstar, Norfair, Countdown (!), Credits (!!)

- Super Mario Bros. 3 ... gah, the entire soundtrack (except the sounds in the second part of the NSF, but they are also fun to hear), but my most favourite part is Ahtletic (Track 10)

- Kirby's Adventure: Already the first track ist addictive (level 1-1), the following ones including the boss battles are overwhelming NES 8-bit power ...

- Duck Tales: See Imoto's post. The five world themes are nice (my favourite part is The Amazon)

- Tiny Toons: *sings* The stage level music has a charme like nothing else, those "synth flute" (dunno now its name) adds something nice to it. Boss battle, the ass-kicking theme from Monata Max' Manor also brings more good feelings ... Track 9 (Pirate Ship) also is a worm which wants to nest in the ear.

- Super Mario Bros.: A true classic! Despite the low amount of tracks it simply rocks - that land-level melody started a world-wide revolution of that only few pixel high man.

- Super Mario Bros. 2: The music is nice, alright with the "Select character" melody (don't know if it's the same in Doki Doki Panic), the level music - I only disliked the regular boss battle music, but other than else, it was nice - and featured one of the best ending music scenes ever (aside Kirby's Adventure)

Edit: How could I forget the maybe most atmospheric OST ever on a NES ?
Of course - Final Fantasy IIIj is meant

We should let Hiryuu play with speed 10 or a handicap with -10000 in Time Trial

And I don't mind getting slaughtered, since people from ZBattle.net are also these monsters
But recently I even got my first _wanted_ x11 which was NOT pure luck
That is nice, this also hides the fact I still need more than thirty minutes to reach 99999 and I rather score poor x4s, x5s, maybe 10 x6s, some 7x and one or two x8s, but, at least I'm improving for myself.

I just need to get off Deux Ex what really is a distracting game (and I need more skill points for lockpicking and lockpicks in general )

Testing: The word I typed into this window is Zeon -> turned ou to shit - ha, but it doesn't follow upper- and lowecase letters (quote me))

Play Gunbound; swear words are censored, but people know how to swear anyway
People simply need to behave, I know not everyone has to type dozens of pages, but something like "hi im new can u help me plz? I have 2 write 1 text for school." simply makes one looking like an twelve-year old person too lazy to type out everything.

On the other hand, even worse are AOLer - they beat every filter simply

I would like to play against you, Hiryuu, though I won't have a chance. I played against Tamarin and it was fun. Maybe one of the next days; due to the time zone offset it could be problems with this. But anyway

Posted on 09-06-05 11:48 PM, in Need a program name Link
This might be virtually impossible due to the nature Windows reacts.
The only program was even comes *very little* close to that is a "net-sitter", but since this just uses passwords and disables certain programs completely, it does not help at all and might even annoy your parents ("YOU want to control the computer ? Well, we will see, how will you be two weeks without it!" - dramatization ). Even if - there's the task manager, there is third party tools on the command line what will let you disable the windows anyway. Who wants to shut something with brute force (especially if the computer can be accessed directly) can do it - and be it by closing important/binding services and such.

The only things that I know are programs like ZoneAlarm. Its TrueVector system cannot be shut down while being not an admin, it gives you an error message while closing it - but only if you are in guest or non-admin status. An administrator can shutdown it anyway.

You could activate window grouping, this is done via rightclick on the taskbar (in Windows XP), then properties -> "Group similar elements" or something else, translated from my German version, will group same program's windows - such as three open Internet Explorer windows - into one - with an arrow. But this feature sucks and won't minimize different programs. I rather might recommend talking to your mother and explaining that to her, that this does not too much aside it takes only RAM and system resources while open, but no physical harm at all.

Well, Hiryuu, that was right. But just to see my own weak point (like many others) - I have issues with clearing garbage, on the other hand I clear it and get at least a x5 or x6 usually - it is weak, but gives me a little more time and the opponent making to clear himself that block, so I could try to set up something.
I also checked the movies on that bigger Tetris Attack page (the two words are the main parts of the page; due to two ROMs in its download section I must not link to it), also some techniques like Stealth, the Late Slip and the last two ones still are tricky for me - I also slowly improve by clearing more horizontal panels, while a chain is going.

The other reason is simply lacking experience:
That game is out since a longer time, I know it only since 2003, I played maybe a few weeks, then let the game down and began playing just for fun again in May 2005 (wanted to beat at least Hard without a continue - now my aim is to achieve that _constantly_ in Very Hard mode and even some day to defeat the level 7 CPU in Time Trial; currently my stats in 2P VS against lv. 7 CPU are about equal/only slightly better (something like 5-3 for me) and in TT I beat the Level 6 CPU to about 50% of the time.

But give two more years - and I maybe even could score one win in ten games against Abusred Rib, Hiryuu an such
Other than that I'll start studying "Japanese studies" next month (finally), so I will cut down my time here obviously.

I could ask someone from another board I know - I think he's about my strength (maybe slightly lower "survival" times), but I cannot promise anything.
I will give an answer still today - he will post here if he's ready. So, please leave the spot open for let's say about four or five hours from this post on. I cannot promise anything and I don'T want to force him to participate, but I met with him in IRL, he is a nice person; so this is a slight chance to fill that last spot ...

Hi, Zidi.

Thank you for joining, I hope you will have some fun - and if you have some time please play against Tamarin Calanis for few matches.
Tamarin just wants to ensure we are having equal opponents in each bracket

... nice edit xD
We still need a commentator:

"And the game is heating up. The left player is performing something...
DOH, a terrible mistake! Only a Clear 4 was done, thus giving the right player to counter.
And as expected, the chain is running x8, x9, x10 and it still goes on !!!!
A x13 was released, but the other one suddenly dropped a thick nine-row and two small garbage blocks in his counter-attack!

UNBELIEVABLE, the right player got stuck ... and lost!"

Doesn't affect Deer Park Alpha 2 since it is a beta and has not the auto-update feature included, but I'm updating Mozilla Firefox - at least the developers react faster on security leaks than a major company (yes, I use Windows XP, but with my operating system I am really satisfied aside from the integrated browser).

Posted on 09-12-05 03:28 PM, in Difficulty on rpg games Link
Uh, at least some of triAce's RPGs hadveiffetent difficulty levels.

Star Ocean 2 had these, but they only became available after you beat the game once (I still cannot punch Indalecio's lights out - heavy work against Divine Comedy, the spreading Divine Wave, Explode, Star Flare, Earthquake and his Angel Feather ):

You can even select an easier difficulty setting then, but on the other hand the fourth difficulty "Universe" is pretty insane, as the last boss has more than double of his max HP - combined with Indalecio's limiter off I assume (?) he could have have something like 3 million HP, while being able to cast spells while moving (on normal he only has 500.000 HP - and the maximum single damage is 9999 per hit ).

Then there's Valkyrie Profile, but as really great the game is, it is unbalanced in its difficulty settings:

On easy and medium you get less characters, more experience lack some nice additional dungeons as well as additional periods of each chapter.
Since you get the most powerful chars on hard, some pretty neat weapons and with the additional dungeons, the more periods to level I even would say that "hard" is easier than playing on easy difficulty
But on easy you can get only the endings B and C, while on normal and hard A, B and C can be reached.

Since Tales of Destiny also you can adjust the difficulty within the menu - the battle will be harder, also I think you can restart the game and learn additional moves on an even higher difficultyx (I'm not sure about that one).

Other than that - if there is something like a new ending, an additional dungeon (such as in Valkyrie Profile it is great: Only on hard you get some important items to be able to proceed in the huge bonus dungeon) or newer enemies - I'd go for different difficulty levels.

Posted on 09-12-05 03:37 PM, in Why do you emulate? Link
Playing the Ancient Cave from Lufia II pretty sucks on an emulator.
On a real SNES it was more than a challenge, as it involved about 10-12 hours if you wanted actually to kill the Master Jelly (without getting killed yourself to get a cheap victory then ), and the most nasty enemies from the 80th floor on ...

I fortified 9-11 hours after I got through it and by three "Stardust" attacks from two Gold Dragons in a row (after being surprised, due to contact from the side ) made me forfeiting that time ...

Other than that, emulation is convenient, allows to play hacks and improved quality/sound - there is Netplay support so you can play online if your friends don't have time to play with you; but nothing can beat the original feeling when you have the original game.

When I'm putting in my Rudra no Hihou cartridge into the NTSC -> PAL adaptor and turn on my SNES, it is really more than satisfaction when the harps begin to play that wonderful melody and the Squaresoft logo fades in - and the huge colorful japanese title appears later ...

I'm using AntiVir PE, it is available in German and in English.

The downside are rather huge periodic updates with more than two megabytes, on the other side it is free and often updated. For a free antitivirus it has pretty good (slightly more than average) ratings - if virus scanners got compared, the free scanners must not be compared with the commercial ones.

I'm just trying to determine the update size by downloading the most recent update using the internal "Internet Updater". Doh, it's 3949 KB, ONLY for the virus definitions , I'm on broadband and have no limits with a flatrate, but I used to use ISDN (64 kpbs) a long time, but it was never close to 4 MB

... and PDP is definitively harder than TA, as you mentioned, Hiryuu, now experienced.

I just made my second walkthrough in Very Hard without continue (I have proof screenshots with the bonus ending screen and the title screen message "Come, let's play together ... Together, under the clearest of the blue skies" - I think CLEAREST does mean "perfect" in that case), but beforehand I played PDP's VS Mode.

The panels clear out really fast while even in Very Hard mode in TA it seems rather slow
Also I touched the top in Stage 8 in PDP the first time - almost instantly I was killed (and stopped after that, as I already had to use one continue) - then moved to TA with its Very Hard Mode - and got through, it seemed a lot easier, although I'm still far away from being to finish that mode without continue every time .

I made a German translation of AcmlmBoard 1.92
The thing is - even if we made a foreign language forum - what would be the topics in it ?
"Hallo, ich bin neu hier!!" - and also having counter+1 too ...

What would nice, might be a generalized support for language packs - so if you planned running a translated version, you won't need to update all files by hand or duplicate entries in some cases (thread.php and editthread.php, register.php and editprofile.php)

It's similar to virus scanners. Some customers buy these products on how coloured and nice the GUI looks, disregarding the resource usage and even the results in cleaning infected PCs.

Or firewall software like ZoneAlarm - it is just like a playground if I see those colourful windows - and also it takes a lot of RAM. Some years ago ZA was a small icon in the system tray, opened instantly and used hardly any resources
