Alright my parents are starting to annoy me and shutting down my progams on my computer since they think that 20+ windows is too much. Is there any program I can activate to stop them from shutting the progams down without a password and while this program is active and has no password inputted the computer can't be shut down expect by pulling the power plug? Money is no problem I just need this program I woke up to my computer today with 4 Windows open when I had 34 last night. So please let me know.

This might be virtually impossible due to the nature Windows reacts. The only program was even comes *very little* close to that is a "net-sitter", but since this just uses passwords and disables certain programs completely, it does not help at all and might even annoy your parents ("YOU want to control the computer ? Well, we will see, how will you be two weeks without it!" - dramatization ). Even if - there's the task manager, there is third party tools on the command line what will let you disable the windows anyway. Who wants to shut something with brute force (especially if the computer can be accessed directly) can do it - and be it by closing important/binding services and such. The only things that I know are programs like ZoneAlarm. Its TrueVector system cannot be shut down while being not an admin, it gives you an error message while closing it - but only if you are in guest or non-admin status. An administrator can shutdown it anyway. You could activate window grouping, this is done via rightclick on the taskbar (in Windows XP), then properties -> "Group similar elements" or something else, translated from my German version, will group same program's windows - such as three open Internet Explorer windows - into one - with an arrow. But this feature sucks and won't minimize different programs. I rather might recommend talking to your mother and explaining that to her, that this does not too much aside it takes only RAM and system resources while open, but no physical harm at all. Or you could get one of those multi-desktop systems (Microsoft has one) and spread your windows across different desktops. They won't show up on the taskbar when you're on a different desktop.

I think this is what HyperHacker suggested, but even if it's not, you could try Virtual Desktop Manager, which can be found here. That's only for Windows XP though, so if you're not running that, it likely won't work. There isn't any sort of password-protection thing you're looking for in that, but you can have a duplicate of your desktop, which you can have all the windows open on, and just switch over to the one with only 1 or two windows open when you're away from the computer. You may also be able to disable the toolbar, but I'm not sure whether that actually disables that function completely, or just hides it That also depends on how knowledgeable your parents are when it comes to computers It's worth a shot if they know just enough to get work and such done on it |

If you're running NT/2000/2003, you could press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click the "Lock Workstation" button. If you are on Windows XP, you'd need to disable the welcome screen in order to do this. |
