FF IV was my first Final Fantasy ever - a guy had the US cartridge and a fitting NTSC to PAL adapter to play the ROM cartridge on my european SNES

I was not that bad (although no milestone at all); especially the music when engaging the more severe battles - "Dreadful Fight", like fighting the Four Fiends or the monsters in the last dungeon guarding the best weapons ever, it is really powerful and sounds great
As for the graphics, they were poor; yeah, small sprites with little animation and only semi-good animated spells - but graphics are not the most important in a game.

The catch is simply the lack of change - spells you got while you reached new levels - also there were only really few sidequests to encounter - mostly finding some of the more powerful summons (finding "Imp" depended on your pure luck; you had to continue until one Imp Captain dropped the proper item if you wanted to get it too ) and some items.

On the other hand it featured relatively good battles - dialogues in them, and there even were funny or serious scenes - like when Tellah attempts to cast Meteo (he has 90 MP, nine MP less than required for Meteo ) ... we know what happens then

Well, the most FFs require no certain tactics for the most bosses
Even the optional ones like the Weapons or Richter may require HIGH stats, but mostly you do the same tactics again and again when you reached these values and levels
It is simply - level up, buy/find sufficient potions and such and simply use the strongest spell avaiable or the boss is weak against.
Then refill your MP (if you cannot buy MP-healing items due to the opportunity to buy them [like Elixirs from FF6 on and later] or too high prices in an early phase, like 10000G for one Ether1 in FFIV, you just save them up finding in chests.

Anyway, it's mostly leveling - apart from FF8 where you could beat the game at a
reasonable low level, since the enemies' leves depended on your level.

Cast spell, cast spell, refill MP, cast spell ... really wonderful tactics

FF VIII had pretty good summons and nice music (Altered Beast, Maybe I'm A Lion, Force Your Way), but I didn't like it at all; only these two reasons - finding the G.F.s and the music were the reason why I even dealt with it

As for the limit system:
Simply keep your HP low enough and you'll wipe out the most bosses easily; if you even junction something like Curaga or even Ultima with HP, you reach the critical zone pretty fast

... amount of time until your computer started up and stopped loading ?

It would interest me, since I noticed major differences in starting up the OSes on different comupters (my computer needs nearly two minutes and is an older one running Windoze ME), another one needs less than ten seconds to start up with a virgin Windows XP while a different computer runs with SuSe Linux and needs less than one minute.

Networks need longer times to start up (depending on the IP settings and so on) and really full auto-start folders also lengthen the time widely.

The span is calculated between pushing the power button and when everything has stopped loading when on the desktop (virus scanner, firewall, dirvers etc.).
So, how long does your computer need to start up ?
Or it is online 23/7 ... ?

I hate thsi computer.

It's really no major problem to put the programs into your Quick Launch. The only software what starts up on my comp, besides required processes like SysTray or Explorer, are my virus scanner, printer status monitor and my firewall

Anyway, when putting way too much crap into the auto-start folder or the "Autostart" entry in msconfig is really full, a computer may mess up at start-up sometimes; so it should not be too much software.

As for me, I don't need stuff like the Winamp Agent at all, so I removed it from start-up

I hate layouts with scrollbars - my Firefox even won't let me put focus into that layout in here and I cannot use the mouse wheel
As for the screens, they look nice and promising. Especially I put my hopes into the cave levels. I really enjoyed 6-5 in YI, one of the best autoscrolling levels ever. Once the different scroll commands are optimized (since they allow to move the screen also into the left direction and much more), I'd like to see comping up good and tricky autoscrollers too

Heh ... I thought it might be good to include that 24/7 option ... just considered Acmlm's server, from which many people already leeched some stuff - heh, there are also some people having running their box all-the-day long ... though I don't believe it will be really 365 days a year ...
Getting some (vital) Windows updates for for example _require_ a reboot, hehe

That's actually one major disadvantage when letting to grow the hair. Until the hair reached its desired length (or at least somehow past the shoulder to bind it to a pony tail or somehow else), the hair usually looks messy and I'm a lazy

My hair almost covers my neck fully and I can brush it how I want after showering; when I go out, it messes up again and "spreads" out to the sides in the last few centimetres of the neck
But I don't care and am just patient (I'm somwhow nearly .. jealous when seeing people outside showing their precious long hair - it's a damn long time I have to wait; but it will be worth doing it )

AcidMan:
By clicking that link below you agree I'm not responsible for any damage done to your eyes or your screen (I don't like posing for or making photos including myself in general usually; now you know why - exceptions are made only for friends etc.). And the hair is somehow even in order now, now imagine a _bigger_ part of the brown stuff of my hair spreading out on the sides just every morning after the shower
I lay my hopes when it will be longer; then I'll take care ... or my hair

I know I'm looking like being on drugs; that's just weird if you snapshot yourself while holding the (cell phone) cam

http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/Messy.jpg

I plan to have it growing at least for another 15-20 centimetres; how 'bout doing longer than that or not, I'll decide then

GRR Martin, his A Song of Ice and Fire series:
A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
and (not published yet )
A Feast For Crows

Just damn good fantasy books. I got the English versions and these three masterpieces brought me into a "English-books-only"-phase.
The last three books I read were all from Dan Brown, in that order:
The Da Vinci Code -> Digital Fortress (just damn good and thrilling) -> Angels & Demons and currently reading Deception Point.

As for my all time favourite, Martin and Tolkien share the first place since I prefer fantasy just slightly before science-fiction.
Then comes Timothy Zahn with some of his really nice Star Wars books - especially I like the opponent General Thrawn - he's intelligent and not that easy fiend like in any other series of sci-fi books

That's weird - but it seems to suit you.
I'd never let my (currently messy) hair cut that low - I'm just planning to do the opposite.

Way too short here, but that's just my opinion (my last girlfriend had very long hair)

I rather enjoy hacks with less but good placed custom blocks, maybe some new ones (changes like more than the SMB3ish smashable brick are just good ...) than one using a shitloads of them in unneccessary cases.

As for hacks, FPI used them in a very good way in the latest six-world-demo of his hack The Second Reality Project 2 - his homepage is right here ... http://www.fpi-productions.de.vu
and of course FuSoYa's and Zero-G's Demo World - The Legend Continues

For temporary problems an alternate file viewer might help; but if that happens again, follow neotransotaku's advice - reinstalling Windows helps not only solving that issue, but also might fix other errors and clean up the registry

I'm using SpeedCommander (Shareware), it's way faster than Windows Explorer, offers more features and is simply much more convenient to use (it even unzips archives inside the viewer without running WinZip or WinRar externally)- plus it has a really good search function; like when you deal with ROMs and IPS-patches in a major ROM directory

*applies the red-colour filter after viewing GB-K's layout *

The screen look very good. What I dislike is certainly a graphical aspect, already done in the original game:
The green bush ledge is almost nice designed in the game, however, round shaped corners.
But it falls down vertically straight what looks too artificial; gotta in some time, maybe when EggVine even might get a sprited/object-showing GUI using the original GFX, would be slightly edited original tiles - like in some SMW hacks

The second last screen looks nice. Since the foreground scrolls, you'll have to watch where to go - like that Tap-Tap below - nice ^^

The only patch I was able to download is that dwory.zip you linked in here.
It went with about 6.5 - 7.8 k/sec, what is just normal using my ISDN connection.

I mirrored it on my free webspace account, but as for the rest of files: Get another host

http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/dwory.zip (345k)

Edit: The included readme is a joke - mostly containing the Demo World description from FuSoYa's homepage

You obivously forgot X-Com Terror from the Deep from Microprose; but I dunno know how famous that supreme tactical game outside Europe/Germany is

The game itself rules kick-ass; you have to build up your bases sim-city like, watch the balances. As you shoot down UFOs and take the missions and win them with good results (keeping the Aquanauts alive, recovering alien bodies and tech), you'll receive your fund regularly. And sure, research was a very important factor.
But as you discovered the Gauss Gun for example, it's still usesless if the ammonution is not known and researched yet. And many technicians and workers are far more effiiciently but also cost more - pure tactics

I just found my old disk and installed it on my WinME operating comp - and it works, wheee

Both archives worked fine - Firefox 0.9.3 German on Windows ME

As for the hack, sadly, there are only two screens. I have yet to play it, but as for the two shown samples:
I like the new GFX, the koopas might have too "close" coulour in their pallette, but they are far better than the original ones. The question blocks are nice; what I'm wondering is that reversed "L" on the top of the screen - but as said, I'll post more after I played the game
