If you have edited anything over the 16 megabyte mark, it won't be included in the patch.

Has it become like a sport in this forum, to completely rip into new people's attempts at hacks? It's quite pathetic actually.

Oh, that rant excludes Xkeeper, as he just insults everyone, no matter who they are.

Now I'm not someone whos huge on Pokemon hacking, I've played around with the programs included in the EliteMap package, and made a few very modest hacks, which I should actually only call modifications due to their quality. These "modifications" I played personally, simply to mix things up in Ruby after I beat it. I poke into this forum from now I then to look for helpful tips from possibly Kawa or interdpth, check out some cool hack screens (rare), and maybe even shake my head at some people that would fit the description to call themselves elitists, which in my interpretation, are utter fKitten Yiffers, and could likely be retarded, all we have as evidence is some text they generate into a thread table. And as you may note, I used an alternative to "noob." People that call others noobs I are really just making an attempt to conceal their own stupidity at the concept being addressed. These people, are people like Jason; and certainly not interdpth. Because as we all know, people like Jason are hidden retards sitting at their computers, likely having a parent or medical assistant create blocks of coherent English as to what that retard might be physically expressing, as a result of what might have been read in someone's post.

I think I agree with everything you said. This thread is one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen in the Pokemon forum. And that says a lot.

That may not work in VB .NET, as I think it can be a git when it comes to automatically converting variables to different types. (well, from the VB perspective, it can be a git)

I think the Integer object has a method called ToString, so maybe something like:

MyVar = CType("&H" & temp1.ToString("x") & temp2.ToString("x"), Integer)

That might work. I really don't know though, as it was completely off the top of my head with a bit of googling for the type conversion function.

Zophar's has all you need. This page contains most of the useful tutorials if you scroll down to the General Subjects section. Recommended is the one by Inverse - The Definitive Guide to ROM Hacking for Complete Beginners.

A useful document is A Beginner's Guide to NES ROM Hacking. Oh, I also hear that Vagla's Art of ROM hacking document is also pretty good too.

I think this question has been asked so many times, there needs to be a sticky.

This thread has the answer in it. Read BMF54123's post. If it still doesn't work, copy the error message (hit Ctrl + C when the message is up) and paste it here.

Um, you can get a community version for free, I think. If you visit what looks to be the official website (well it's the first link in Google ), the downloads section has a link to various FTPs with ISOs on them. You just have to pretend to be a member of their club or something.

Yay, this is finally going to get off the ground. It severely needs a general ROM hacking wiki though.

You look up the registers that control the pattern table for the mapper the game is using using Firebug's document. Then, you put breakpoints on the register when you find the place in the game where you want to change the pattern table.

However, as SMB3 uses MMC3, this could take a while, because to initiate a swap of the pattern table using MMC3, you have to write to $8000, then to $8001, which is the same method used to swap PRG banks out.

Hope that actually made some sense.

Disch, the world needs more people like you.

Personally, I'd recommend something like Python. Seems easy enough to learn, and it forces you into good programming practices (well, in regards to whitespace). Plus, you can create games, GUI based applications, or whatever you want with it.

Heh, I wouldn't say I'm an expert at all. I'm just a wiki fanatic. I could get started on a wiki, but I just need to figure out an actual structure, or the whole thing would end up as an unmaintainable mess.

No editors exist (apart from the ones you mentioned) for those games. And I wouldn't really hold your breath waiting for editors to be made, as there's not many people making SNES editors (or any editors really) these days.

I doubt that the kid did it to himself. Why would he? Plus, they can usually tell from the angle of the stab wounds, whether it was self inflicted. Also, how could an 8 year old kid over power a grown woman?

Nah, I definitely think you are talking out of your ass.

The enemy adding might be possible (with an efficient level management system in place), but actual expansion of the PRG ROM to give you more free space to work with is probably impossible. NES hacking will always be limited by the small size of banks in NES ROMs.

Yeah, a very long time ago, I was interested in finishing up this program, or using some of the code in a new SMB2 editor, so I emailed the guy who made it for the source. And I've still not actually done anything with the source I got from him. Oops.
